OdsalBoy
Andre and simon nielsen it is then!! Shocked at no Facu or Koppe, but Simon Nielsen is a great addition - welcome to him ! And also great to see our stalwart Andre back, and at reserve!!!! So happy bring on the new season.
Stan Duppcomic
Surprised but not surprised. I reckon if the old guard was building the team we'd have probably had most of last season's team including Facu, BUT the new "consortium" have certainly not gone for Same old Sheffield, and with Bates, we have a local lad on a 3 point average who got things together towards the end of last year. Don't forget last year we had 2 guys who started on 5s and struggled eventually to end up with 3s. I loved Facu and hope he could be back at some point, but his equipment was poor and to the season was a little weird and from what I heard he'd be starting from scratch with his Berwick bridges burned from last year. So for me, a great team, with a fantastic blend of youth and experience, with a great leader in Joe and what seems to be an enthusiastic management team! - BRING IT ON!! romans lovechild
happy, happy, happy. a team that has some racers that should get the crowds back to owlerton, a mixture of youth and experience, a solid look about it and andre at reserve is the trump card, play offs await. 2ndbendbeerhut
Josh bates guested for us at Ipswich riding at number2. I'm sure he scored 6 paid 7 and impressed that night. It's great to see a local lad ride for his home team. I'm sure Leigh lanham and stead will help him greatly as will screeny. Scored 6 from 4 Inc heat 8 win. Should be able to put least a point on his Ave this year.
spin king junior
Very happy with the team put together. Much better than the one I suggested a couple of weeks back! I think we've got a very good balance and still look strong throughout. The real trump card is having Andre at reserve, he'll thrive around Owlerton this season with being in such an easy position, he'll never be back to what he once was, but without a doubt a solid enough reserve, or second string when we need. Pretty much happy with every signing, but not exactly sold on Simon Nielsen. Probably the best of what's left, but he's barely seen Owlerton and hasn't exactly scored all that great from what I've seen. But hopefully he can prove himself on the track! Definitely deserves his chance and will hopefully kick on when he gets down to reserve.
lionking
If you get a fully fit Simon Nielsen he will do a job for you. He is a gater & a slick track rider so my only concerns are that around Sheffield he will be non effective because he very rarely comes off the inside line. He broke his leg very badly in 2012 & IMO he only really recovered mentally in Sept 2013 . His 2013 record for Leicester were HOME Sheffield 8+2 Scunthorpe 1+1 Edinburgh 3 Redcar 6+2 Ipswich 1+1 AWAY Scunthorpe 4+1 Sheffield 4+1 Edinburgh 1 Newcastle 1 He also rode for Plymouth but i do not have scores for that because i only keep Leicester scores. But they were very similar to those for Leicester Edited January 30, 2014 by lionking
Ariel75
Unfortunately Facu will not be into the lineup 2014.- Facu want to send the best wish to all the fans who helped him last year and encouraged especially to Rob Brown and family, Dick Barrie, Martin Guest, Martin and Simon Parker, Craig Royston, Scott Armitage, "Sheffield 1st Bend",Ricky Anderson and many more fans.- Hopefully someday we'll meet in Sheffield
mossy666
Scunny fans think he can't stay on a bike for four laps, I think the only reason he struggled to stay on was his passion to do well exceeded his ability at the time of him riding for us.and I'm sure in time he will do well. Halifaxtiger
That's a good team and one that I would expect to be in a play off place at the end the season. Slight question marks over Stead and Roynon coming back from serious injury but Compton, Bates, Poole & Nielsen can all improve their averages. What is most pleasing here is the level of enthusiasm this team has created as evidenced by the posts on this thread which contrasts very favourably with the position at the beginning of last season. I'll pay Sheffield the compliment of seeking out matches away from Owlerton (as well as a few home ones) because they should provide attractive opposition wherever they go. Just a quick word about Hoggy, because he surely deserves a great deal of credit here. He's put a huge amount of time and effort in over the winter and taken some very unfair criticism from people with grudges and axes to grind but has managed not just to save Sheffield Speedway but build a very attractive side for 2014. First drink is on Spinny, Dave.

Taylorj
So Bates is rated by Edinburgh, Ipswich and most NL fans. Scunny fans think he can't stay on a bike for four laps, maybe he is a small track rider? Owlerton is a big fast track will be interesting to see if he can cope. Good looking team, Andre could be the trump card. Everyone can put something on their starting average A good looking side, but can't see Andre staying at reserve once the first set of averages change. I think Simon could struggle in the body of the team

Stoke and Buxton fans don't like Josh Bates much either, that's because he always rides his guts out and doesn't know when he is beaten. This makes for some spectacular races, if he is on the race card, expect fireworks.
SteveLyric2
Taylor poole has fully recovered and had the all clear from the doctors. ...but has he got his visa yet??? Koppe is going back to Aus, also heard Albin is not coming back, so could be another new face, So its Koppe-off and Facu-off!!?

CaptainAudi
One of the races of the season last year at Armadale was Josh holding off Jason Doyle for the win after popping out the gate first, extremely clever ride from him to hold the much faster Aussie behind him! proud panther
Josh Bates was thrown in at the deep end on the eve of the season due to Irving retiring. It was perhaps a bit too early for him, but he gave it 100% in every race. By the end of the season, he was one of the most improved riders in all 3 Leagues. Very highly rated by his fellow riders, I think he will surprise a few people on here that are knocking him.

I am sure from what Rosco said that because of the improvement that was why he chose him as Swindons reserve, it is a pity that has now changed but I can understand the reasons. Race 11 on here....... http://www.edinburghmonarchs.co/race-of-the-season/ The lad did great!! (But he gated last and came through after Newman was a bit forceful on Vissing and Doyle!!)
Mr Blobby
Bates is a steady young rider gating at times wasn't the best but that should improve over time! One of the races of the season last year at Armadale was Josh holding off Jason Doyle for the win after popping out the gate first, extremely clever ride from him to hold the much faster Aussie behind him! you must of watched a different race from everyone else as he was last out the gate and held doyle of for half a lap
