The SAINT
Out of curiosity, what difference to the situation would keeping his mouth shut have made? As I understand, it was being dealt with privately prior to the news appearing in a small snippet in a tabloid newspaper. That news did not come from Swindon. Should Rossiter have kept Robins fans in the dark and pretended everything was rosy to protect the integrity of the Sheffield Promotion? how do YOU know that nick morris didn't approach the sheffield promotion (seeing as they are the only PL club who can accomodate him) FIRST (which then led to dialogue about a deal) ?? Should Rossiter have kept Robins fans in the dark and pretended everything was rosy to protect the integrity of the Sheffield Promotion? It was a press release by Swindon to the Swindon Advertiser that is at issue. It is the integrity of Rossiter that needs to be questioned; by the response of Sheffield I don't believe they were aware of any issue. Hoggart appears to have been spending his time finalising a takeover to secure speedway at Owlerton; I would hope that all the documentation is signed off on the buyout as this sort of crass comment by another promotion can put these sort of deal at risk. Rossiter had better have the facts to back up his claim or he is going to look fairly more stupid than he normally appears.

The Advertiser were already aware of the story due to the newspaper snippet as mentioned earlier. This had not been put out by Swindon. The Swindon Speedway press release was a 'reaction' to that - as was reported. As you say, it could look a tad premature should he not have the facts. Fortunately this is not the case on this one. spin king
how do YOU know that nick morris didn't approach the sheffield promotion (seeing as they are the only PL club who can accomodate him) FIRST (which then led to dialogue about a deal) ?? Which is exactly what think has happened. Nick Morris loses his place at Somerset. Nick Morris needs and wants a Premier League place. Sheffield and Peterborough are the only two clubs that can fit him in. Peterborough say they don't have a team place for him Sheffield tell him if he became available they would be interested. Nick Morris goes back to Alun Rossiter and tells him he to ride for Sheffield in the Premier League. Alun Rossiter goes into a flying fit and then tells him if he was to ride for Sheffield he needs to put in a transfer request calling his bluff. Nick Morris then returns the bluff and puts in a transfer request. Or Did Dave Hoggart do the following. Look at the Somerset team and decide to do the following. Tell Somerset that there team was incorrect and that Brady Kurtz should come in on 5 rather than 3 due to riding in Danish League. Of course he knew this would mean that Somerset would drop Nick Morris. He then arranges ofr one of his new consortium even though they did not have control of the club to speak to Nick and offer him a place in the Premier League that he so wanted. Dum Dum Dum Dum Da.

Fortunately this is not the case on this one. As the old saying goes "you can't control what other do; but you can control how you react". This is Swindon's issue and Swindon's problem. It is apparent that there were NO conversations going on between Sheffield Speedway and Swindon about this issue; the Swindon press release confirms that. So if as you understand "it was being dealt with privately prior to the news appearing in a small snippet in a tabloid newspaper", exactly who was dealing with who? What that may mean is the following: 1.Swindon claim an "alleged approach"; now if Swindon were doing a deal with Sheffield behind closed doors it wouldn't be alleged now would it? 2.That also implies that any discussions were between Morris and Swindon; not Sheffield and Morris 3.That leads one to believe that the discussions between Morris and Swindon have stumbled and to cover their own backsides Swindon released a snippet to the tabloid press (easily done). 4. The tabloid press contact Swindon for a comment allowing Swindon to respond with a press release that accuses someone else of wrong doing 5. Morris and Sheffield are used as scapegoats 6. Swindon look squeaky clean Not that I've ever worked that closely with the PR industry of course.

So perhaps all this inane dribble should be filed in the recycle bin as we will probably never find out the truth, but both teams will carry on in some form of shape and we should all be grateful to have a team to support, unlike some who have now lost theirs to support.

Yes that's fine except some if us believe Sheffield are a totally innocent party in this shenanigans; I'd like to Swindon prove otherwise; if they do then Sheffield must hold their hands up. 4thbender
It is the Polish authorities who have put a block on their riders riding in PL, Nothing to do with PL/BSPA. Then it is the Polish authorities who are in breach of EU law. Good job the Polish Plumbers' Federation didn't take the same view, otherwise it would be impossible to get a washer replaced on the UK's taps! Al Stewart
Then it is the Polish authorities who are in breach of EU law. Good job the Polish Plumbers' Federation didn't take the same view, otherwise it would be impossible to get a washer replaced on the UK's taps! Is it not the case that Poles can ride in the PL as long as they ride on a UK licence? This is for the eminently sensible reason that in the past too many of them have missed meetings when ordered (or choosing to go) back home. I'm all in favour of UK speedway doing what is in its own best interests and paying as little attention as it can get away with to EU law.

Mr Blobby
I think the problem is that Sheffield hadn't told Swindon that they spoken to Morris or Morris has spoken to them whatever way round it was! End of the day you simply can't do that! you want to speak to a rider you ask the club for permision but this hasn't seemed to have happened on this occasion im afraid!

To be fair and give them their dues, it sounds like Sheffield did request permission to speak with Nick but were told 'no' as Swindon already have an agreement in place. Doesn't seemed to have stopped them though

Doesn't seemed to have stopped them though I honestly think that the matter has been blown out of all proportions. Nick Morris is desperate for Premier League place and Sheffield have one. The fact that he has an Elite average of 5.90 and Premier of 8.84, the chances are that he would pick up an Elite League place quicker than an Premier one.. bigcatdiary
I wonder if anyone at Sheffield has thought of changing their race night. Wouldn't be a problem for Morris then.

Currently the only person empowered to speak on Sheffield's behalf is Hoggart (unless the paperwork has gone through for the sale; I don't believe it will have done). Hoggart has stated he has been working very hard to facilitate the sale; he also states that he knows nothing about an approach to Morris. I have always found Hoggart to play things with a straight bat. Therefore the issue lays elsewhere; but not with the current Sheffield management. This is a Swindon issue that they must resolve. Dragging Sheffield in to their issues helps no one. To be fair and give them their dues, it sounds like Sheffield did request permission to speak with Nick but were told 'no' as Swindon already have an agreement in place. Doesn't seemed to have stopped them though According to who and who at Sheffield spoke with them; name names; your informant clearly has the information otherwise they wouldn't be feeding you with it would they?
