Sheffield 2014

Recommended Posts

Sheffield have signed the fewest number of riders of any EL or PL team, including Peterborough who have only been in the PL for 5 minutes. Could do with some progress on new owners and some inspiring new riders. Has the new fence been ordered, and has a load of new muck been ordered so that Graham and John can bring back Fortress Owlerton?

I think it is a case of patience here. As I have said earlier, I don't think there is any cause for concern just yet.

Riders have been signed and I'd say that Stead and Roynon are a very good start. Compton and Albin are mentioned on the website and I doubt if there are many who wouldn't want them back either.

To me, its a case of so far, so good.

to me its a case of same old, teams overtaking us and then we pick from the dross thats left. Steady and Roynon are a great start, loving that, but i cant help feeling concerned.

That's not true. For a start, Sheffield have never picked up the 'dross that's left'. Even over the last couple of seasons, the teams have been deliberately built that way, for right or wrong.

Secondly, its just not the case that there's only 'dross' left.

Finally, there is a takeover at Owlerton. If it is taking a little longer than others, that's understandable.

I don't think you should lose sight that Sheffield have a top stadium and fans. New owners will be a fresh start with every chance that the team and track will return to past glories. There's every reason for optimism, and that shouldn't be dampened just yet by the fact that there haven't been announcements.

How does the sort of stadium and fans Sheffield have make a difference??

Nufc have great fans and a super stadium.... But have been terrible for years.... It's the product they put out and not the fans or the stadium that matters IMO.

I disagree with this too. It's not a race to sign riders. Some of the teams that have been put together so far look unimpressive to me.

Number 1 priority is to have speedway at Sheffield

Number 2 is to have a team that is entertaining and Simon and Adam are a good start in that respect (as well as Mr. Not Very Entertaining going to Workington)

Number 3 is to have a league winning side

There are plenty of good riders without a team place but, as others have said, a fit Simon Stead and a fit Adam Roynon will do for me so far.

I am thinking exactly the same about the team as Tiger Owl and Halifax Tiger,

Even with Peterborough entering the league there are still a raft of riders out there for us to sign.

One thing that I happy with this season is the first two names on the team sheet are riders that will entertain the crowd.

Listening to Adam Roynon talking on a recent radio interview (Biker FM),he said on there that his plans to ride only Premier League with a few continental meetings when time allows it. He is not actively looking for an Elite League place. In the speedway star its says that Redcar were also chasing his signature.

Other things that Adam said on the radio show was that talking to the Promotion and Steady had told him was they were actively lo build a team that had a lot of team spirit.

Looks like Simon Stead is having some input into who who the club signs, and for me that is another important matter.

But looking at the completed teams apart from maybe Workington there is no really stand out team.

We are being left at the start gate on team building. People say that other teams don't look anything special, they all look a lot better than the Tigers. We have sign two riders. No word on the new owner's. what about the air fence issue most people seem to have forgotten about that. Why can't someone in the no just give the fans an update on the state of affairs at the club. We don't want to no anything that is confidential just if thing's are progressing. But I won't hold my breath.

You're right, the team and the racing are paramount.

But having a good stadium and top fans help to make Sheffield (at least potentially) one of the biggest clubs not just in the PL but in Britain (they have, after all, been a target for the EL for years). Added to the fresh start new owners will give, they are reasons to be optimistic about Sheffield's future.

I'd maintain that this a case of being patient. It maybe the case that negotiations for taking over the club are ongoing and nothing can be disclosed as yet.

What is certain is that it benefits no-one to keep the fans in the dark if it is possible to make public precisely what is happening. As soon as details can be released I am sure they will be.

I wouldn't worry too much about that . The nearer we get to the start of the season , riders will get twitchy and their demands will drop . Peter Waite at Berwick never used to sign a rider till the February .
