Sheffield 2014

Further note to the new promotion... please memo the following:

In the event of the sun, fallen riders, unshaded goggles or broken fences holding up proceedings to the extent that paying customers are tearing out their hair on the terraces, DAVEK agrees to pay a full refund of entrance fees at the turnstiles. ;)

The sun only shines on the righteous.

You wont be tearing your hair out - that's why i added the topless tractor racing. You cant beat the sight of a 46" DD overhead Perkins on the home straight :lol::lol:

Ricky Ashworth told me that the trick is tinted goggles with a strip of tape across the top. I suppose it's a bit like the old 70s sun visors. Maybe they should get some with Riders names on like the old Flyer Wyer ones. Incidentally when Kozza crashed last year he was wearing tinted goggles. Sheffield is not the only track it affects and part if the reason why it happens is the removal of a section of the stand on the fourth Bend where the new pits were created.

Yes, It's been a problem down the home straight at Stoke, how many times have we been there had one heat then half hour delay for sun setting.

Quite correct. Newcastle have 2 +1 ambulances and 3 Doctors most speedway nights.

They need them at Newcastle, they have more first bend bunching/falls in one meeting than Sheffield have in a whole season. ;) Edited by Tigerite

Note to the new promotion..... Please memo the following:-

1. The Sun - Its presence at Owlerton on a Thursday evening is absolutely forbidden, unless being shaded by a big black rain cloud

2. The riders - Under no circumstance should riders fall off their bikes. They are highly paid professional sportsmen and as such, falling off and possibly damaging themselves, their equipment and the newly installed airfence, causing much delay, shall NOT be tolerated.

3. Topless tractor racing may go a long way to reducing the boredom should the above points fail to be adhered to....

4. Halfords to be on standby with 12 dozen foot pumps and a puncture repair kit to speed up any running repairs to the airfence

ps Think you may find that there is a ruling against the use of tinted goggles

Have a nice day :party::party::party:

So you like the sight of dirty diesel engines then? Everyone to their own I suppose!

I thought he meant Graham T :shock::D

In the Sheffield Star:-

Tigers chiefs have hailed the work of city businessman Ian Hunter in sealing the deal to take control of the club.

And Hunter has once again pledged the support of Sheffield Window Centre as main team sponsors for another season which starts on March 27.

Consortium member Damien Bates has revealed how businessman Hunter became involved with negotiations as outgoing owner Neil Machin was in Australia.

He said: “Sheffield Speedway owe a huge debt of gratitude to Ian Hunter for the hard work he has put in this winter.”

“Ian was most helpful in helping finalise the deal to take over the club with Neil being away in Australia.

“The fact that he has also agreed for Sheffield Window Centre to continue as main sponsors of the club only adds to the input he has had with us.

“Ian Hunter is an integral and vital part of this club and on behalf of the consortium I would like to express our appreciation and hope he remains on board for many years to come.”

Sheffield have confirmed more names for their opening night Air Fence Fund Bonanza meeting on Thursday, March 27.

Skipper Simon Stead, Scunthorpe’s Ashley Birks and Elite League star Rory Schlein were all confirmed last week and they will now be joined by Wolverhampton’s Ty Proctor, new Sheffield signing Leigh Lanham and Tigers reserve Andre Compton.

All profits from the event will go towards the installation of the new air fence barrier at Owlerton which is compulsory under new regulations.

I have been a huge fan of Sheffield for many years, and we have never had a manager that I have or the fans have felt comfortable with. When I header that Joe Screen had be chosen to be the manager I was horrified. The real man for the job is Jack Lee. Jack Lee is like the Alex Ferguson of speedway, he has lots of experience in speedway being the Buxton Hitmen manager for over 20 years. He has won lots of trophy's and could lead Sheffield Tigers to a successful 2014 season . At Buxton he has brought up so fantastic English riders: Simon Stead, Craig Cook, Andre Compton and Charles Wright.

By making Jack Lee as the manager you will be doing justice for all of Sheffield speedway, all the lads in speedway love him and wanted him to be the manager and I bet the fans do too.

I hope you realise the mistake you have made by putting Joe Screen as the manager and not Jack Lee, Jack is a popular and well respected figure within speedway. GET IT SORTED !

JACK LEE AS TEAM MANAGER !

That is a surprise; I got the impression Hoggy put all the hard work in to keep speedway at Sheffield I would have thought he'd have been there to have his efforts recognised by the fans.

Rumours around that Hoggy is no longer involved, dont know how true it is, but was surprised he wasnt there last night.

hope the rumours are wrong

Thoroughly enjoyed last night.

Sean Wilson and The Flyer Wyer were excellent value for money, hopefully we will see more of Sean at Sheffield, and nice to see that Doug is going to help Josh Bates with his gating.

All the other Legends were good value for money as well.

Not too sure whether the Hoggy rumour is true or not, I hope not I think that he still has something to offer the club, and he did some sterling work getting the consortium together, but if he has left then I wish him all the best.

Like everyone else there last night was surprised by Hoggy's absence. He didn't give Reg Wilson an early lift home did he?

Although it was a good turn out there were others (known to me) that disappointed me by not showing up! I understand that over 2k was raised last night, brilliant, well done to all those who showed up and were thoroughly entertained by Nigel Pearson's interviews with our heroes of the past & present!

Why would he leave having put a consortium together to buy the place? That just does not add up.
