Sheffield 2014

Recommended Posts

Leigh Lanham would fit into the team nicely.

Would leave us with 18.21 for the remaining 4 places.

Maybe throw in someone like Dakota North.

That would leave us 11.66 for 3 remaining places

Add Andre Compton.

That would leave 7.30 for 2 remaining places

Stick in Facu Albin as one of the reserves.

That would leave 3.68 for the last position.

Then add either Ollie Greenwood or Damien Koppe.

Not a bad side I don't think.

That seems a decent team. However don't expect to see Simon and Andre (if he is in it) riding around the boards next year as there won't be any with an air fence! I think that taking 4 or so feet off the width of the track on the bends will affect the heat times next season. So the 'fastest track in British speedway' won't be Sheffield.

Once the team, and air fence, are sorted the next thing needs to be a well deserved testimonial for Ricky, something that seems to have been forgot about

Hi TM. I don't think this has been forgotten about. At the Ricky meeting at Berwick at the end of September, Hoggy said that the Berwick one was done first as it was felt that there was more chance of a bigger pay day for Ricky on a Saturday night in Berwick rather than a Thursday in Sheffield as it allowed our fans to travel up, as many of us did. The implication was that something would be done at Sheffield at some point. With the uncertainty about the promotion since the year end, there couldn't have been any announcements about a meeting for Ricky. Hopefully, as you say, once the team and the air fence and everything else that needs sorting is done, it will be back on the agenda.

4 foot? How wide do you think an air fence is? They're about a foot wide, maybe a little more. And riders can bounce of them. Won't make a blind bit of difference at Sheffield.

Can we have a proper programme as well please.

Consign the Machin Pizza Hut menu style race cards to the bin.

Sod that for a game of tennis! Much prefer the race card to paying 1 or 2 quid for a flimsy programme full of adverts that I'm really not that interested in

Sorry but free race card for me too. It's expensive enough without paying for a throw away program full of adverts.

Would like to see a much improved website as ours is one of the most dated of all tracks.

The fastest track in British speedway will be Sheffield until another track becomes faster.

Fast times don't necessarily make for better racing.

Air fences are 2'6" wide and are only kept in place by straps in order to keep them upright. Each section is coupled tofether via air pipe connecting and safety straps and the cost for each section is high.

These are vital to all tracks in my opinion, especially those that had solid fencing like boards. Wolverhampton's old fence was collapsable and was just as good as it stopped everything that hit it while Air fences can bounce riders or bikes back onto the track and hit by another bike or rider.

As for the new owners, it's good to see that Sheffield are likely to move up in 2015 to hoefully join Peterborough and another track back in the top flight and the new owners look to be keen to make it even better racing and a slight change in the shape of the track will keep it as a fast track but also create more race lines which can only benefit fans and riders.

As for the 2014 team, good to see 9.33 Simon Stead and 7.81 Adam Roynon back and I can't see 7.19 Andrew Tully signed up anywhere yet. That would be a strong top three. To add to that, I can't see 6.55 Dakota North signed up either and if he is available like Tully, it would be a strong looking team.

4.36 Simon Nielsen is at Belle Vue and 3.53 Joe Jacobs at Wolverhampton and both will have the benefits of riding alongside Scott Nicholls and Tai Woffinden which will help them through the year learning new set ups and advice. Those two would leave 3.73 which would leave enough for the popular 3.62 Facundo Albin to join Jacobs at reserve.

1 Simon Stead

2 Simon Nielsen

3 Andrew Tully

4 Dakota North

5 Adam Roynon

6 Facundo Albin

7 Joe Jacobs

Don't know if all these are available, but that 1-7 looks as good as any declared so far and potential title contenders.

6.39 Robin Aspergren, 6.00 Jozsef Tabaka, 5.86 Tero Aarnio, 4.36 Andre Compton ..... look to be available too ?
