Tigers on the trail of Andre Compton,

http://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/other-sports/speedway/speedway-hoggart-plans-to-bring-compton-back-to-tigers-1-6321593

Quite happy with this but i feel we have to be careful, if Albin joins him then the team is vastly looking like last years. need some fresh power in the team.

Thoughts please.

If we signed Compton, Facu and Koppe I think it would leave us with 14.34 to play with for the final 2 riders which is a fairly useful amount - Bjerre and somebody up to Mark Lemon's ability would fit.

Think it all comes down to whether you gamble on Koppe's pre-injury form not being just a flash in the pan and Facu having decent equipment. I read somewhere or other last year that Andre was playing catch up with set ups given all the exhaust changes during his absence, if he gets them dialled in he is going to be difficult to beat around Owlerton, and that is what we need at the moment.

A spectacular season for the team would be nice, but a solid season is a must.

I don't think Andre and Adam were part of the disaster of 2013 to be honest. They were part of the attempt to put it right (albeit unsuccessful) and I think they added to the team.

The mistakes started way before that with the return of Richard Hall, Koppe and Albin being on inflated averages and Jake Knight being a bit out of his depth.

If we had started last season with Adam instead of Richard Hall, Andre instead of Jake Knight and Damien and Facu on lower averages, the season might not have been so bad.

I know that there has been some negative comments about Cory Gathercole on here but we have had our fair share of similar riders in the past who have not been afraid to dish it out and if he did sign, I would welcome him here. However, I think Leigh Lanham would be a good addition although it may be that riders like Leigh and Lasse Bjerre / Dakota North end up at Peterborough if they are running.

I think that you are pretty spot on with what you say, I think we are probably looking at a team has Steady and Adam Roynon as heatleaders, Andre as a 2nd string and Facu Albin and Damien Koppe at reserve.

That would leave us with 14.38 for one heatleader and one second string,

For the heatleader Leigh Lanham is not a name that would spring to mind for most Sheffield fans but I agree he would be a good solid signing.

Lasse Bjerre would be a dream signing.

But I have a .sneaky feeling that we could see a local lad return back with Ashley Birks, that would be a signing that I would love to see us make I just wish Rob Godfrey would get on and announce his team.

The second string I would like to see is Dakota North, he would be my first choice.

But what about Ulrich Ostergaard.

Not quite the out and out number 1 he was a few years ago, but more than capable of been a very good 2nd string.

I am amazed that although most teams have completed their line ups, there is still plenty of options for the new promotion to go for.

I quite like the idea of Magnus Karlsson as the third heat leader. I've got a feeling that Peterborough will be in the PL with Lanham, Bjerre and North as basis for their side.

It will be an interesting few weeks ahead though.

I don't want to see both Koppe and Albin back, its one or other with Compton at reserve, would be much stronger ! I would go Koppe if getting Albin over here is such a pain regarding living, decent bikes etc.

The big problem with Magnus is that we are a Thursday track and the second tier of the Swedish Leagues run on Thursdays which would rule out Magnus and any other Swedes signing for Sheffield really.

Cant see karlsson being an option ,he only rides Sheffield well when its slick which is a problem when steady and roynon like it deep.I think peterboro will join our league and take bjerre and north so I would think theres more chance of birks or Jorgensen joining us.Ostergaard may be useful though.Compton/albin or Compton /koppe combination is a must for me at reserve.

If it was Ash Birks, which would get my approval and listening to what the Management has said , I would imagine a side that would look like this.

(1) Simon Stead

(2) Andre Compton

(3) Ash Birks

(4) A rider up to the average of 7.08

(5) Adam Roynon

(6) Facu Albin

(7) Damien Koppe

Possible riders for the number 4 slot

Dakota North 6.55

Ulrich Ostergaard 6.52

Mark Lemon 6.44

Nicolai Klindt 6.84

Again a lot will depend on which way Rob Godfrey will be going with his team building, but I find it strange that he has not named his full team yet, which is very unlike him and made something has swayed him to change his team plans.

I like the look of that lineup, Birks is on the road to recovery, i hope the horrific injuries havent knocked his confidence at all but id love to see him at Sheffield once again, is he likely to be fit for the start of the season ?

Ash has indicated that he is planning to fit for the start of the season.

Also if Scunthorpe go down the rumoured line of signing Nick Morris then you can also add to Thomas Jorgensen's name to the list f available 2nd string rider available at an average of 6.15.

Could it be that Sheffield have been simply waiting for Rob Godfrey to make up his mind on his team plans.
