Swedes Off The Mark

Recommended Posts

Would be a bit silly if teams started announcing teams now and a 5 point reduction in the points limits and a spending cap came out the AGM woulden't it ?

You might have a point about moving the AGM forward, but if we are seriously looking at cutting costs this winter, moving it forward to try and bag more of the top riders might be a moot point.

I believe the Sky Sports contract ends this year. I presume that if Sky do drop out as has been rumoured it will change the amount of money available to each club to spend on riders.

I suppose the big question is when will the clubs find out if Sky are going to continue its coverage.

SEE that Swedish clubs are already formulating their 2014 teams with Darcy Ward to champions Piraterna just one example. Why oh why can't we get things sorted that quickly here?

Because the speedway mafia can never agree team strengths. That is until after they have agreed them at the pre-AGM meeting, only to change them again at the pukka AGM. Think back to the Winter of Discontent . If the likes of Peterborough and Coventry build stronger sides again than the mafioso like, will they be stitched up again. Of course they will.

To be fair I should think most of the EL clubs have already started thinking about next year and I dare say a few already have a lot of idea of the main positions of their respective teams.

They don't say anything now before the AGM because any teams looking good are invariably shafted at the AGM.

I do think their are good reasons for having the AGM in October, and being able to produce the fixtures within a week of the conference finishing.

So we have a few top men signed, same as always, why say anything this season? Our season isn't over yet either!

Could be a case of some top riders getting things sorted quickly in Sweden and elsewhere - because they know there will not be a place for them in UK!!!

That's because the SGP ratings were so flat that they made the BSI's pay levels to riders look high.

NOT for the first time it is the FIM not BSI who pay and determine the SGP prize money ...

So we have a few top men signed, same as always, why say anything this season? Our season isn't over yet either!

IT is for all but four clubs in the Elite League ... and anyway why does that matter?

One big difference in Sweden, of course, is that once a rider's contract with a club is concluded he can move elsewhere. Hence Ward from Dackarna to Piraterna with no fee involved.

Intill we know what Sky are doing no club can do or sign anyone ...in years gone by I have seen plenty of uk sign riders up for next season around this time of year ...A Swedish doing this is hardly ground breaking.

It been said for years the AGM should be sorted before November. Maybe you could ask the promoters why this is the case and write an article for the Star about the reasons?

I don't think you'll find too many people disagreeing that things could be sorted sooner.

I think an answer has already been given for this - by Tsunami I think - on another thread!!? Its to do with 'final accounts' for all clubs being available and approved! Not sure I totally agree with that, as I know of many 'national associations' that are membership-driven, that use 'projected' final figures at their AGM, which can then be adjusted slightly if necessary afterwards! I guess one of the big problems is how much the BSPA funds have had to be used to 'bail-out' clubs (or keep them going) and what the chances are of those funds being topped up again?! This is clearly being clouded by the additional uncertainty over the Sky contract/monies!!!

Your find me ..clubs half the time don't even no they are going to run the next year intill this season ends ...as long as things get sorted before the end on November I don't see the problem or the rush to be honest ...it's bit like when every year Swindon fans moan about there season tickets not coming before xmas when the season starts in march

Perhaps not so much in terms of team personnel, but the fans should at least have an idea of what we can expect next year with the league structure, sky etc. Alot of people over the course of the season fork out alot of money following their clubs, so its not on for the promotors to treat fans like Mushrooms.

The worry I have is if Sky dont renew and the sport has to be run lower level, is do we seriosuly expect every single club to agree on the exact structure of the leagues and the rules. I fear we could get a situation with promotors walking out of AGM and because its been left so late, the fans and the riders will be left in limbo possibly for most of the winter.

We need answers from Sky as to whether they will renew or not. Lets sort it now either way, its no good leaving it and waiting for S**t to hit the fan because the clubs collectively cant agree a way forward. However do we expect anything different from the BSPA!!
