Sheffield V Scunthorpe 26/09

NEIL Machin has a message for Sheffield fans ahead of Thursday’s closing Owlerton meeting of the season: “Have a drink on me!”

The Tigers owner announced last week that he is willing to listen to offers for the club after 21 years.

And that means the Scunthorpe clash in the Retro Cup could well be his last in charge.

He said: “Every full paying adult will receive a £3 drinks voucher at the turnstiles, so have a drink on me!

“After over 21 years of promoting speedway at Sheffield, it seams like a logical thing to do.

“I could not have done this job for so long without the support of those many people who have been present through thick and thin, rain or shine, home or away, and this occasion marks a remarkable journey which has twisted and turned throughout.

“It’s been a journey that will continue along with a story which I intend to publish in some form or another going forward.

“I have no intention of disappearing and may be called upon by whoever my successor is to advise or assist and I will enjoy having more time to spend with like minded people on a Thursday night.

“My future objective is to hand over the best Speedway business in the best venue operated by the best people in those many key positions who make Sheffield Speedway, the identity synonymous with quality and good value.”

Nice gesture by Neil, but i dont drink...lol

A £3 drink voucher...I'd rather get in for £12 instead, after all its a challenge match over 13 heats....a pointless meeting but I will be there coz its the last one.

Don't forget there's also a second half for the Retro Cup meetings. You actually get more racing for your money, not less.

All the best

Rob

Rather than just being negative about the gesture why not find someone who can use an extra £3.00 drink voucher, give them the token, and ask them to donate the £3.00 saving to the Ricky Ashworth fund.

A 13 heat challenge and we still cant be bothered to track 7 riders and also a sub 8 average for replacement steady.

If the stadium is empty they get there reward for doing things on the cheap

Why the concern you state a few months ago that you not prepared to go again.

Or was the offer of a free drink maybe enticing to think again,

Take it for what it is an end of season challenge, something just fill in the end of the season.

And i stood by my word... just thought they might have got 2 full teams with a few exciting riders to try and tempt a few extra.. that failed..

We did come to the PLRC Sunday and talking to the people who have kept going said it had been awful and we made the correct decision to save the £100 a month

Hopefully something new and fresh next season as i miss good competitive speedway
