Poole V Swindon 30 September 2013 Second Leg

Recommended Posts

The article doesn't say Sky are pulling out. Nobody knows yet and there is always Eurosport.

Riders can still ride over here but they need to accept less money. Its up to them.

If there is no TV money then the promotors / owners have themselves to blame for past mismanagement of the sport..

SADLY there isn't always Eurosport... no interest in domestic speedway in the UK

Still raining and likely to continue on and off all day. Showers are developing in the channel and pushing north over east Dorset and Hants.

Anyone know if the track covers are down?

PS for once I agree with Britpete. Swindons to lose.

But surely speedway must be one of the cheapest sports to cover and the viewing figures can't be that bad. I know people who have no interest in going to a meeting but watch on tv.

WHY cheap ... outside broadcast facilities aren't exactly cheap and the rigging required for a speedway meeting is quite extensive. Compare that, for example, with snooker and darts, inside small arenas and with no weather constraints.

Some might argue that Sky going a little overboard with around 60 personnel on site at each event and their costs are reported to be around £30,000 per meeting. Do the sums ... it ain't cheap.

60? cant believe they need all those. For an outside event it must be cheap compared to other sports.

When Sky are at PB, there are usually at least two camera gantries on lorries to get the high up viewpoints, plus multiple camera's on the various bends, centre green and home straight, that's where a lot of the expense is, do we really need so many camera's ?, one high up on the start finish line covering the entire track and one on bends 1/2 for first bend incidents would suffice.
