Crazy robin
PIRATES hope to name a replacement for Lee Smart tomorrow after promoter Matt Ford confirmed the out-of-form reserve was to be axed. Smart has endured a woeful start to the season in Poole kevlars, scoring just eight points in five outings which included two no-scores. And Ford has lost patience with the Swindon-born rider, who cut a dejected figure in the 48-42 win over Birmingham last night. Pirates are able to name a rider below Smart in the British Speedway Promoters Associations fast track draft grade list, provided that rider is eligible for a full-time position. Ford told the Daily Echo: I will apply to the BSPA in the next 24 hours and then we will inform the Pirates supporters of the change thats being made. We hope the new one-to-seven will be finalised some time tomorrow. Were going to make a change and it may be that we try something for another month or so until we find whats best for the club in that position. Ford admitted he had sympathy for Smart, a product of the Elite Leagues inaugural draft who ended up being the oldest rider in the Poole side at 26. Is that an official club release as the word "woeful" is really harsh?.

Its taken from the thisisspeedway Twitter page, though as you can see there is direct quotes attributed to Ford.
Steve Shovlar
If Smart is bottom in the averages how would that work if there was no one below him? Â A better sense rule is to be able to chose any rider on the list who is currently not fixed up. If there is a rider with potential who had an average fractionally above Smart, it would be a shame for that rider to miss out simply because of the way riders have been graded in a list. Â IMO Poole should be able to choose a rider from the NL who isn't currently riding for an EL club, if this draft system is to work it shouldn't come down to averages.

Totally agree. Luckily for Poole he isn't bottom of averages so there are several riders to pick from But what if there was a rider above who was keen as mustard to ride in the draft? How fair would it be on that rider to miss out because someone has put his a couple of places further up the list. Forget Poole, this could be any club.  Any NL rider should be available providing he fits the criteria.

Yeah thats a good shout. Charles Wright in for Dan Greenwood at Swindon would be the first move.

Young Ashley Birks is riding like an NL rider after his injury and should therefore be allowed to replace young Mr Greenwood for the Robins..  Let us all just make the rules up as we see fit..

As per the rules set out then it will have to be one of them then the same way it had to be for Swindon when Darryl was injured which he seems to have forgotten about

And then you could drop him like a stone as well if he doesn't measure up ! Don't try to tell us you care about the development of young British riders, just Poole finding a shark at number 7 to give you an advantage !

Rubbish as that would open a can of worms going forward as clubs would soon cotton on to pick their 2nd rider & have another up their sleeve who couldn't commit at the start of the season.  The rules are there & Poole chose to sack Lee so have to accept their choice of new rider.
