Red Panda
To be honest I think when the current lease runs out the council will flatten it anyway. Nice large area for housing in the middle of town. I don't know how long Stadia UKs lease is though. I think you will find that they can't build anything other than another sports facility on that land................... And I don't trust Eddie Mitchell.............he is a get what he wants at all costs and sod everyone else type of person............. The only other viable option would be to build a purpose built stadium at Canford Park Arena to accommodate all three sports............. Red Panda
The Coventry site is supposed to be for motorsport only....... Please note I did not say motorsport..........only sports facility...........and to be fair its not the best place in the world to build houses............There is enough traffic there already without adding to it by building more houses............ The only other viable option would be to build a purpose built stadium at Canford Park Arena to accommodate all three sports............. RP Interestingly Poole Town FC had already looked at Canford Arena - pre Eddie Mitchell - and discarded it for some reason, maybe cost!!? (Canford would certainly make it easier for Chris Holder - and Matt Ford for that matter!!! ) I confess I have difficulty in accepting Clarke Osborne's (Stadia UK) comments that the speedway track 'would only need adjusting', if the stadium is to be revamped on the same site to include a footie pitch with FL aspirations?! However it is Stadia UK that hold a long lease (originally either 99 or 125 years I think) from the Council to operate the site, so if a partner comes to them with the necessary finance to invest then they would be silly to turn it away - whoever it was - as long as the minimum 3 sports are retained, which the Council would support!! Watch this space.......,! Edited February 28, 2014 by Skidder1

Steve Shovlar
I heard that Mitchell tried to buy the Pirates off Matt a couple of years ago but Matt wasn't interested in selling the club, stating to be successful in speedway takes a lot more than money. As the stadium is council owned Pirates are quite safe. Any development would stipulate a speedway track and thee really would be more than uproar if plans were submitted without the towns main sport included. Yes I think that goes back to when Mitchell had his well publicised outbursts and fell out big style with the local paper for reporting it/him!! Mitchell then got a bit jealous about the amount of good regular coverage the Pirates were getting compared to AFC Bournemouth, so offered/threatened(?) to buy Matt out!! Not sure how relations have been since?!

Quite right. It requires illegal line ups, calling meetings off when the weather is perfectly fine, average manipulation, getting meetings which should never have started called off after heat ten, getting rules introduced for one season to benefit one's own club and purchasing tonnes of bricks too. A big commitment in anyone's book.

DunRobin
If as SS states the track is council owned, how are Stadia(UK) involved? Do they lease the track from Poole council?
