Guest
There's loads of factors, but Eastbourne would thrive with a switch to Premier League on a sunday.
Sophies Mate
Heard the rumour last night and have to be honest thought it was just that, hope something can be done to save Eastbourne and Birmingham don't like to see any tracks close. As Bob is stepping down and was always against dropping down a league hopefully this would be an option for a new promoter(s) personally think we should still keep to a Saturday night race night though as I believe now that the sunday trading hours have changed since Eastbourne last rode on a Sunday afternoon I don't think that the attendance would improve. As it looks likely that two tracks are going to go, would any clubs from the premier league want to step up to the so called Elite league? Seriously doubt that and do we want an even smaller Elite league next year or should we as I and many others have said combine the two leagues and have a north/south division and top two from each division go through to the play offs. theknow 2
Pity not up for grabs a year later as i retire then and need something to do
Trees
Take early retirement then, you got your chance to change British speedway!
Woz01
as long as it is the premier league As it would be the top league in Britain it could be called Elite or Premier, I couldnt care to be honest long as it helps British Speedway thrive. proud panther
Who gets the profit from the food & drink if a new promoter can be found next year ?
Sophies Mate
If Eastbourne drop to the PL then that is a good choice. I prefer PL to the EL myself. PL Better racetracks, Teams are on a level playing field & Its more entertaining to watch than the EL. Just look at the meeting's from the PL we have seen on Sky (Tracks like Berwick, Peterborough and Somerset) all meetings worth the entry fees and there was passing galore. Likewise have enjoyed the PL racing far more than EL racing would be interesting to know what the supporter level is like at PL tracks are they suffering too or are they doing ok/good for attendances? cityrebel
The dugard's can't make speedway pay at Arlington despite owning the stadium. What chance would a new promoter have with rent to pay on top of the staging costs and riders wages. I would not take it on rent free, even if I had the money!

mdmc82
It's no suprise to me that bob has decided to pull the plug at eastie. The crowds have been shocking this season and i really do fear for the futute of the sport at arlington. Eastbourne haven't helped themselves though by making other teams ride with NL riders instead of their no 1s. Teams that have asked to swap fixtures have been refused and so Eastbourne have suffered as no away fans Its not all clubs suffering with falling crowds, Coventry in particular are attracting good crowds this year. Looks like its going to be one big league next year. Agree. Coventry have had some really good attendances lately so makes me wonder why other teams haven't

Pity not up for grabs a year later as i retire then and need something to do The official announcement refers to the possibility of 'putting the licence on ice' for a year!! Mad Potter 2
The only way to save speedway is to standerdizes the bikes & stop the use of using expensive parts. If GP riders want to use them in GP's that's their chose. Does any rider use a standard GM or JRM of the shelf? Don't think so.

Sealed units form Jawa or GM Would almost certainly improve the racing aswell
weatherwatcher
Go one step more. Change the track sufaces with more dirt, go back to the old uprights as has been thought of already. It would give us back the more competative riding than what we have to put up with now. With the riders with the most money having the best tuners sorting out thier engines for them and making the riding dull and boring with a line of riders with 4 or 5 bike length gaps between them. I have seen it on every track in the EL and also in some PL meetings where you have riders dropping down from the EL league. Have all the engines sealed and then only allow the factories to do any major work on them ar for them to use licensed agents in other countries to do the work at fees that do not break the bank. How come years ago the riders used to race in the rain but now come a shower and at the first chance the meeting is called off. Where they a lot tougher then, or do they earn so much money that it doesn't matter to them if they don't get to finish a meeting. We will be lucky if speedway survives until 2020. That is if it even makes it that far. Because unless things change prtty soon speedway in this country will just be things in our dreams. If they can do it in Poland, Sweden and Denmark plus the other countries that run speedway then it just proves we have got it very wrong. The only speedway we will see is the GP's or anything that is live streamed on the internet. Come on all of you at the BSPA got your heads together do a bit of advertising and lets keep British speedway alive, at one time of day we where the top contry in the speedway world, now we sit very much at the bottom of the pile.
Gresham78
Looks like the end! Who would take over something that sucks so much money. Although I am absolutely gutted, I salute Bob and the rest of the Dugards for keeping speedway going so long. I have been going since 1971 and cannot imagine not looking forwards to the new season every year. I am close to tearsI have to say. I absolutely love speedway and the Eagles. It been part of my life for most of my life. Fingers crossed for you Steve and all Eastie fans that somebody comes forward to rescue the Eagles. It's bad enough with the Brummies struggling to stay afloat let alone a second track finding itself in trouble..

StElmo
As much as id support premier league races for the Eagles, id be totally gutted tbh, as Eastbourne should be in the top league where we belong.

Yes I'd like Eastbourne to stay in the top league but if comes down to premier racing or no racing then will take PL any day. Question I have is why do clubs have to pay for rider's flights most working people don't have their travel costs paid for is this the price we have to pay to have riders race over here? Do the foreign clubs they ride for pay for any of the travel costs? If not why don't they? If dropping to PL means we don't have to pay for things like this then maybe we'll have a chance to survive along with reducing the admission costs.
