Speedway Just Had A Mention In Coronation Street

Joke all you want but there is a sinister side to this story.

Terry Russell who of course now holds worldwide and universal copyright on the word "speedway", as well as Dirk Bogarde's image rights, is now demanding £10,000 from Hayley Cropper for infringing his rights.

Hayley has said she will not pay, and Terry Russell is very angry. Having crossed Mr Russell, I wouldn't be surprised if Hayley is dead within 6 months

The powers that be should invite Roy Cropper to a meeting, in character with shopping bag and coat covered in defunct speedway badges.

We could all play "Where's Roy" a bit of a Wheres Walley type game as I think he'd fit in so well, we'd struggle to find him in the terraces for the centre green interview.

What is really odd is that the script ever included such an unlikely line in the first place.

Hayley is much to young to be aware of an obscure 1940's film unless she has a keen interest in either films or speedway.

Even genuine film scholars may be not ever have heard of OAJS.

As someone has already said, it must be some speedway fan scriptwriter.

Not sure if it was a wind up, but someone said the Croppers have a Stoke Speedway sticker in the Morris Minor shooting brake! I know it has opened up a lot of P take, which has been fun, but glad they made reference to OAJS!

It's true. They did.

Also when Raquel Watts was a model she did a shoot for the Brewery calendar with a speedway rider called 'Erik Mikaelsson' who she then dated, making Des Barnes jealous.

Bit of dodgy casting with Erik though. He was about 7 foot tall and built like a rugby forward.

Hayley just told Roy he reminded her of Dirk Bogarde in Once a Jolly Swagman, she said it was a film about Speedway.

You watch Coronation Street!!! :o

Perhaps in view of the lad's injuries, slightly in bad taste if you are making a joke, if not and genuinely letting us know, sorry.

Would not joke about that Ray, it was the fact that his injury was reported on and that the sport of Speedway had been mentioned. Edited by A ORLOV

BBC Radio 5 live sport news at midnight on Saturday night announced that Tai had failed to become world champion. I had recorded it on Sky plus to watch (fast forward) after my shift. What the hell are the BBC playing at giving out speedway news. I don't pay my licence fee to receive speedway results.

Anyone remember when "RICKEEEE" from Eastenders became a speedway star overnight with the "Walford Lions"!!!!!!

Quality!

He bought a bike one week, rode it round a car park once and was an instant star, was thrown straight into the KO Cup final for Walford (looking suspiciously like Troy Pratt), rode in heat 2, quit and walked out of the meeting.

Presumably he's still banned by the SCB now
