Bees_Man
From the CET: Coventry have named Chris Harris as their captain for the 2014 Elite League season. The triple British Champion is returning to the Buildbase Bees this year after spending last season on loan to Birmingham, and will take his place in a completely changed team at Brandon. Promoter Mick Horton acted swiftly following their wooden spoon finish of 2013 by re-building the side from scratch, but despite that there were several potential candidates for the skippers role. Harris has led the Bees in four previous campaigns, most memorably in 2010 when they came from nowhere to take the title in an epic finale at Poole. Meanwhile, new No.1 Hans Andersen has twice captained League-winning teams, with Peterborough and Swindon, while Ryan Fisher led the Bees in the closing weeks of the 2011 season after Edward Kennett had been suspended. Harris, though, gets the nod as he goes into a busy year which also includes his return to the Grand Prix series and Horton believes he has the right attitude to succeed. Horton said: Chris asked me if he could be captain, and I asked if he was sure about it or whether he wanted to just concentrate on his own efforts. But he said no he really wants to be captain, he feels hes got something to prove this year and that he has plenty to offer us. Hes really, really keen about this season. Chris knows the score, and he knows what hes got to do with coming back to Coventry. By his own admission, over the last couple of years he hasnt been quite the same rider, a few things have been missing from his game, but he has a point to prove and were looking forward to seeing him doing it. Meanwhile the Christmas Cracker meeting, postponed at Coventry two days before the scheduled December 29 staging, has been switched to Peterborough. The Brandon venue will be unavailable for motorsport before March, so the meeting will take place on February 2 at the home of the Panthers, with whom Horton is a member of a leasehold consortium running the sport at Premier League level. Coventry season ticket holders can, however, gain free entry on the day at the Showground as was the plan for the original meeting. Bees own press and practice day has been set for Friday March 14, with the full fixture list currently being prepared.
Woz01
Although I think Bomber should concentrate on his own efforts it shows he is very keen to do the job. It seems he is very focused about the season ahead which hasnt been the case in the last couple of seasons. With Hans and Ryan in the side we essentially have 3 capable leaders this year.

Harris wasn't interested in 2012

Harris wasn't interested in 2012 Didnt say Ryan was a heat leader just a leader, he has captained the Bees before. Harris is obviously interested as he asked if he could the job! Harris has had personal problems the last couple of years but it seems he is focussed to succeed this year.
markyb
Am really impressed that there appears to be an wealth of those who could and would be captain of the 2014 Bees. No doubt that Hans and Ryan would fit the bill too. Lets hope that Phil Morris in place as well come March too ! Looking forward to a great speedway season for both Bees and Storm (cracking team there too on paper) this from an Olsen fan from 1976 whose interest in the sport has suffered of late ! Mick Horton / Neil Watson / Blayne Scroggins / Laurence Rogers - take my hat off to you guys - hope it pays dividends to you !

dj350z
I know I am going to be on my own here but I think Havvy should be given a chance for another year. I think we all agree on here that the promotion have put together a competitive team for 2014 and Gary has only had one season at being team manager. If it doesn't work out this season then you can say 'hand on heart' that he was given as good an opportunity as he is going to get and wave bye bye. Presumably Mick & Neil have faith in Gary to stick with him for another season and they have far more to lose than us supporters so I say let's get behind Coventry Speedway 'et al' and give the guys some great support in 2014. Dave PS For anyone who doesn't know me - I am the one who stands on the 2nd bend on my own with no mates and a Gary Havelock t-shirt!!! Truth is I'm kind of worried that if the Bees chuck GH out he will finish up at Leicester - Poole not looking for a new team manager

Your not alone, Havvy should be given another chance, as Team manager. And the riders need to respond to that, and give him all the support and assitance posible. Starting with doing their jobs on the track.. Edited January 10, 2014 by Starman2006

Now i hope ALL the riders respond and do the correct thing, on the track, and give him any assitance that he requires. The only way you will go forward, is if everybody, works as a TEAM... mdmc82
I hope Havvy has a positive season with the bees this year. My only concern is his relationship with Hans but hopefully they have found a way to put it behind them. Would like Blayne to work along side him though as has always been more of the motivator and also able to fill in the programme. Hopefully Bomber will also get them motivated and a good team spirit will form as team looks good on paper.
