Coventry Bees 2014

Forecast for next Monday (home and away with Leicester) looks very wet unfortunately....I was really looking forward to this

.

However realistically though ....can we cancel them now or will we have to stare at the unrideable track first?

Purely for selfish reasons of course but as it's bank holiday, and a precious day off, I need to work out my plan for the day!!

Can't afford to call any meetings off based on a forecast if we are to make play off.

Weather forecast changes by the hour so we can keep our fingers crossed it changes

Hans said on TV on Monday that they weren't going to get all their fixtures in!!!!

They are looking at possible double headers away at Belle Vue & home against Eastbourne which would mean at the moment it would just be home to wolves after the play off date.

However with still chance of more rain offs, we will have to hope they can pick up as many points as possible in meetings that are on (or that other teams also have rain offs lol)

Brings back memories of the late 40s and early 50s when thousands of us made our way there from Wheatley street. You were very posh in those days if you had a car  . I think half of Coventry Transport's buses were in use on those Saturday nights. Glory days. Regards. Alan.

I wonder if it will pick up and drop off on the way? Could be ideal for me if that's the case although if not it will be a service I will use on occasions. Edited by woz01

New averages now in and Garrity is up at 3rd on in now. Only riders above him are Kerr and Blackbird

harris and Howarth have higher averages as well making it easier when guests are needed

I had a feeling Garrity would go up, he has been in good form recently beating 2nd strings regularly.

Ben Barker back, MJJ out.

Club asset Ben Barker rejoins the Buildbase Bees as a replacement for Michael Jepsen Jensen, and will make his seasonal debut in Sunday's home and away clashes with Leicester.

Jepsen Jensen had informed the club that he would be unavailable for Monday's important away match at Belle Vue, an original fixture he was contracted for, in order to ride in a re-arranged match for his Swedish club Dackarna.

This would have led to the Bees going to Belle Vue with no facility to replace him other than a six-point Premier League rider, and it is a meeting they may well need points from in order to reach the top four and qualify for the play-offs.

The only option other than making a new signing would have been for Jepsen Jensen to receive a 28-day ban for withholding his services, which would likely cause the club more problems further down the line – and any team change had to be made quickly as the deadline for new signings this season was earlier on Thursday.

Promoter Mick Horton said: “I don’t think there’s any doubt that Michael has been put under major pressure to ride for his club in Sweden on Monday.

“But it isn't anything to do with Coventry that Nicki Pedersen is injured and Patryk Dudek is suspended, and the fact is that Michael had a contract to race for us at Belle Vue.

“He was obliged to fulfil that fixture and has chosen not to do so. We haven’t accepted that, so he has refused to come over and has chosen to resign from British Speedway. We have accepted that resignation.

“We are the innocent party in this – we’ve done absolutely nothing wrong, and the club is now making a stand.

“Clearly Michael has put his Swedish club before his British club, and we cannot have these conflicts of interests so close to the play-offs.

“He was going to be letting his team-mates down and letting the fans down, and Havvy (Gary Havelock) is in full agreement that we had to make a move.”

Barker last rode for the Bees in 2010 when he was part of the title-winning line-up.

He then switched to local rivals Birmingham the following season, remaining with the Brummies until their closure midway through the present campaign. He also races for Plymouth in the Premier League.

Horton added: “Ben had a crash at Peterborough on Tuesday but he will be back in time for Sunday's meetings.

“Ben is pleased to be back in the Elite League and he will be fired up to race, and I think this is a far more preferable option than going down the route of rider-replacement and so on.”

Ouch, really poor replacement in my opinion. Barker is not a heat leader and think will really struggle. Really not sure what the bees management are thinking.

Wouldn't it have been better to use Roynon against Belle Vue and then have MJJ for the others.

I'm really shocked by this move. MJJ was a head leader whilst Barker more of a second string.
