markyb
Actually the announcer was that bad he made Peter York look brilliant and it was a refreshing change to hear him talk sense. Now there's two words you don't often see in the same sentence - Peter York and sense. The polish track curator and the announcer should have swapped roles with other half way through. However, on reflection, if they did, you would not have seen any difference anyway

But honestly, read the thread on the NL forum page; I'm not sure my sarcasm concerning 'the fans are to blame' post has hit home yet to the original contributor...... Gemini
woz01.... The announcer is listed on the website, it seems he is permanent. I wasnt there last night but not one positive comment about him on here or social media. Permanent for one night. The dulcet tones of David Hammond will be heard as from the E.R.C. Welcome back David.

Yep good news, mistake admitted by the promotion and im glad David is back. Horton does act quickly when something doesnt work.
SPEEDY69
After seeing hansen ride last night you'd better hope he is better at other tracks - was worse than poor!

Dave Jones
Yep good news, mistake admitted by the promotion and im glad David is back. Horton does act quickly when something doesnt work. That's because he has had plenty of practise, yet doesn't seem to learn. The problems of last Friday seem to me to just be a repeat of difficulties experienced last year
Gemini
Someone else has taken the rap for introducing the new announcer, which obviously didn't work, so credit to Mick for immediately getting David Hammond back again.

The problems of last Friday seem to me to just be a repeat of difficulties experienced last year The lack of information on the night and change of announcer was a mistake by the promotion but the track is a stadium issue. The track is prepared by the stadium and not having equipment ready for any eventuality was very poor. The ref is not completely blameless either. A shambles all round. FTM
Although some fans won,t( or don,t want to ) accept comments from the Bees promoters reference Friday night the Referee has complete control over the meeting from start to finish. If he doesn,t like any one particular thing if you as a promoter/ team manager/ or in my case trackman(during a meeting at Oxford) don,t rectify it he has carte blanche to refuse the meeting starting at all. IMO I think the fans are to hard on Mick Horton and Blayne as far as the lights and other problems with the Stadium because the Stadium owner has an onsite permanent electrician who is responsible for repairing /replacing lights etc who (although different people have changed througout the years ) has been there ever since I first got on the trackstaff in 1985 .This situation also existed at both Peterborough and Oxford when I was trackman at both operated under the Colin/Mick Horton promotions . Most promoters operate under the renting of premises from another existing organisation who,as far as I can see, are basically not providing adequate stadiums to race in . Hopefully things will improve all round for promoter and fans alike as I appreciate you ,the fans, work hard for your money and obviously like a reward for paying it over the counter and from what I read on here at least Mick and Neil to come on to answer problems whereas a lot of other promoters do not.

NeilWatson
COVENTRY promoter Mick Horton has issued the following statement following the postponement of the Elite Riders’ Championship on Sunday. “I have made the decision today that the teams representing Coventry Speedway will not be taking to the track at Brandon until such time as the stadium bring in the correct and proper track curator to prepare our track. “The track has been totally unacceptable. I am embarrassed and humiliated and I am not prepared to take all of the criticism because this is 100 per cent down to the stadium. “They got rid of our old track curator and brought in a new one and it simply hasn’t worked. I am totally humiliated and can only apologise. “I have told the stadium staff what the situation is – it’s destroying me. We said early this morning that the track should be bladed but they decided to let it dry and pack it, and it was still rubbish. “Television were here and I have taken a lot of criticism, and I know I’m going to get the flak. But I want to make it very clear that this was totally out of my control, this was 100 per cent down to the stadium. “They brought in the track staff and assured Coventry Speedway that this track curator and track staff team was the best that we could get. The rest is history – it has been a total shambles starting on Friday with the Storm match and now on Sunday for a major national event. “There is no way that I will allow a Coventry team on that track until it is correct, and until that time, until it is in a suitable condition to race on, we will decline any further shared events or TV meetings. “In all my years of speedway, this is my lowest moment. I feel absolutely humiliated by something that is totally out of my control.”

Midland Red
Full marks to Mr Horton for this statement Sadly, it does sound as if the end of Coventry Speedway is closer than we ever imagined
Panthers89
Well IF Coventry did move to Peterborough, it will make you even stronger I reckon, as all your riders ride the EOES well. BUT I hope for the fans that things get sorted.
