Panthers 2014

Recommended Posts

Plummer does do speedway. Swann mainly does Posh and local cricket, what a CV that is :D

Swann just goes against the grain in his world of sport column in the hope of getting people's back up, which he invariably does. He regularly had a go at Panthers as I said up until the point when Bratters contacted the right people at the ET and got Swann's gonads cut off. If people are discussing Swann then I'm sure that he's quite happy to be perceived as a right nob, it's job done, as Columbo above proves, and so do I come to that I suppose :

Exactly! Small-time local hack - and a pi55poor one at that. Always has been a complete and utter **** ! He was the same on the cricket field too

If enough people wrote in to the manangement and threatened to stop using their rag for advertising he'd soon shut his gob about Panthers. Problem is, far too many people take the bait and send in emails to argue the toss about the cr@p he writes. And that serves only to put a smug smile on his boat-race  because that's exactly what his boss wants.

Oh and by the way, he was always a Dirty Lids fan... and these days he's always slagging them off. That tells us all we need to know about him

And if you're reading this Swann; you WERE Lids and you're STILL Lids - you'll never shake that off no matter what you write in your pi55poor column :nono:

Personally I thought it was very tactless even though I am fully aware of Swanns track record, I agree if enough people give enough grief to Edwards he might pass that on, not holding my breath though as the Telegraph is dying as well.

Alan Swan is getting exactly what he set out to do by getting a reaction from you all..Things are still happening in the background..an article by some local tinpot reporter who hates speedway but thinks cricket is exciting means nothing!

That's a fair point and if Panthers was still running no one would really take any notice but to say that with the sport now looking unlikely to continue is in very poor taste.

No, it's not here where he wants to get a reaction; it's in his mailbag/mailbox. It's just a numbers game. Bottom line, it's all about circulation & advertising revenue. So never reply to him, or to his office, in response to the sh*t he spouts - because that really would be playing into his hands.

Not true which is why Bratley got Swann brought to heel.

Only in a small way, Swanny still continued to have his digs over the years.

Perhaps if we had a decent Sports Editor it might have been different but Swanny walks all over French.

This may have been asked but what is to stop a new promoter running a team at the showground without buying anything of Frost.

Surely all that's required is a promoters licence

Rent the track from the showground owners

Purchase your own air fence

Sign all riders as loanee's (as the assets will be under Frost)

Call the club "Peterborough British Short Hair Cats", "Posh Panthers", "Cambridgeshire Colts" etc

That has to be cheaper than buying the club as I'm sure Frost wouldn't sell on the cheap with the rider's he has as assets???

Such negativity could easily deter any potential new owners of the Panthers from investing in the club. he should take a good look at himself in the mirror and see what we see - a mindless moron doing untold potential damage to peterborough Speedway..

I thought the exact same thing after I'd left a comment on his article! If any potential owner were to read what he'd said, it could put them off taking the task on. It's odd that with Peterborough being a city, that more people never turned out to watch speedway, but then again, I don't know how often it was promoted in the local area? Plus, it seems a lot of Peterborough fans do live outside of the city and travel some distance to make home meetings... I think sticking with a Friday race night is the way to go. If something does develop, I would like to continue my visits as much as possible, where finances allow.

If we were allowed to stick with a Friday night we wouldn't be in the mess we are, it was the Showground bosses stopping us using Friday nights that completely pi$$ed of our promoters in the late 90,s.

Probably the biggest single factor in the Panthers demise.

Although I cannot see the present owners advertising to all and sundry that they have lost about 1 million in the last 5 years surely isn't helping the sale.

Wasn't late 90s was it (to be pedantic)? First argument was vehicle access I seem to recall? Andrew Mercer, chief executive of East of England Agricultural Society, which runs the showground, said: We rely on all our showground users to arrange proper facilities for their visitors. The agreement signed by Panthers on March 13 2001 clearly states the area of the showground they can use and where cars can be parked. They signed the agreement. We have not heard from Panthers that there is a problem, and we did offer them the use of the staff car park inside the showground, which is about 250 yards from the grandstand, but, for whatever reason, they declined. That's when the problems started. At the time of the Lynch, Horton bust ups in 2002 we had an Elite League side and The Pumas. From about 2003 dates started to disappear?

If there really is any interest out there then anyone who is influenced by Swann's World of Sport is a sandwich short and shouldn't be bidding anyway.

Well maybe, but the Hortons seemed to get into conflict with all the stadium bosses they came into contact with. Seemed to be a bit of a track record with them...
