Panthers 2014

Some of the points made in the article are those many in the sport agree with but are afraid to air in public. It looks like more similar comment could be on the way from the writer.

Just read that article. Doesn't really make for nice reading! Whilst the bloke may have a point, some of the readers that have posted beneath have quite interesting views. The very first comment at the bottom in particular!

I was meant to post in this topic a while back as I really do hope that the EoES stays open for speedway. I did head over several times this year (just because I could and I wanted to ;)) and the racing I saw at Peterborough was much better than what I saw overall at the Norfolk Arena in comparison. I have mostly enjoyed my visits to the EoES and I still say it's one of the best tracks in the country, so although it may not be a great loss to some people, it certainly would be a great loss to some others!

Swann is a small time local shock journo in Peterborough, couldn't get a real job! He regularly had a go at Panthers even in the good times until Bratters got him neutered. His favourite hobby is upsetting Leeds fans so he doesn't value his health either.

If www.peterboroughtoday had an ignore button then Alan Swann would be the one you'd choose.

I'm afraid that is the end for the Panthers, not at all confident that there will be a take over.

I hope I'm wrong, but not holding my breath

Tend to agree. Both leagues settled, Panthers wiped off the BSPA website before you could say "delete" and a weedy statement of hope to take the heat out of the situation whilst not having to explain the reasons.

The point about number of fans does grate on me though.

  • Panthers did not have a regular race night.
  • Expensive especially if you have a partner/family, not many people go alone.
  • Sky meetings - People stay home to save some money and try to justify the Sky £ they spend each month
  • No meetings for 2 or 3 weeks then 3 in a week so suddenly need to find in excess of £50pp if you do not have a season ticket.
  • People have lives outside of Speedway, I know Season Ticket holders who do not go to every meeting.

Agree with the first point

People tend to find money for what they really want to do.

Doesn't seem to affect football attendances in the same way.

Fragmented fixture list was the no1 problem at the EoES.

And the final point just tops a list of excuses which outlines the use it or lose it reality we now find ourselves.

Fair enough Crumpy but I respectfully disagree.

People can only spend money that they have.

Sky does not affect football attendances? Really? Not a premier league Derby but pretty much every other game and certainly POSH

By the final point I mean situations such as Holidays & Birthdays, do they get cancelled for Speedway.... No

Swann is an irrelevance, best ignored. Until the five interested parties all pull out, speedway at the EOES is still possible..

Exactly! Small-time local hack - and a pi55poor one at that. Always has been a complete and utter **** ! He was the same on the cricket field too

If enough people wrote in to the manangement and threatened to stop using their rag for advertising he'd soon shut his gob about Panthers. Problem is, far too many people take the bait and send in emails to argue the toss about the cr@p he writes. And that serves only to put a smug smile on his boat-race  because that's exactly what his boss wants.

Oh and by the way, he was always a Dirty Lids fan... and these days he's always slagging them off. That tells us all we need to know about him

And if you're reading this Swann; you WERE Lids and you're STILL Lids - you'll never shake that off no matter what you write in your pi55poor column :nono:

Thought Plummer was the journalist covering Speedway! Swan sounds like a right .....!

Plummer does do speedway. Swann mainly does Posh and local cricket, what a CV that is :D

Swann just goes against the grain in his world of sport column in the hope of getting people's back up, which he invariably does. He regularly had a go at Panthers as I said up until the point when Bratters contacted the right people at the ET and got Swann's gonads cut off. If people are discussing Swann then I'm sure that he's quite happy to be perceived as a right nob, it's job done, as Columbo above proves, and so do I come to that I suppose :o

Swann has been an Ar$ehole for over 30+ years now - one of the things I dont miss from moving away from Peterborough 20 years ago.

Such negativity could easily deter any potential new owners of the Panthers from investing in the club.

he should take a good look at himself in the mirror and see what we see - a mindless moron doing untold potential damage to peterborough Speedway..

If Peterborough go into PL I hope having the 4TT finals there isn't being touted as an incentive to potential suitors, as I seriously hope this will be staged on a neutral track. Seen Peterbrough win it at home too often for my liking.

Bloody hell, talk about running before you can walk.
