Panthers 2014

Recommended Posts

I hate to say it but to be brutally honest, I can't see there being any speedway at the EOES next season. That includes PL, NL or open meetings.

I think you are right, the BSPA are going full steam ahead sorting out cup draws etc, I can't see where Panthers can fit.

In 2003, King's Lynn were a late entrance to the Premier League. By that time, the cup draws had already been done.

Workington (I think it was) sacrificed their bye into round 2 to match up against King's Lynn in the 1st round with the winner going through. Pretty sure it was KL who went through in the end.

Hopefully something similar to that will happen next season if Pboro can return. EOES is far too good of a venue to lose.

Negotiations are still taking place, its just the silence that gives people negative thoughts..

...but the BSPA have the final word on league membership and there is only one licence.

1 licence for what?

Boston ran from King's Lynn under a different promotion.

Dudley run out of Wolves under a different promotion (I think).

With the right person this could be done and Frost has no say, I'm quite sure the BSPA couldn't really care less about Frost's opinion anyway.

Wasn't late 90s was it (to be pedantic)? First argument was vehicle access I seem to recall? Andrew Mercer, chief executive of East of England Agricultural Society, which runs the showground, said: We rely on all our showground users to arrange proper facilities for their visitors. The agreement signed by Panthers on March 13 2001 clearly states the area of the showground they can use and where cars can be parked. They signed the agreement. We have not heard from Panthers that there is a problem, and we did offer them the use of the staff car park inside the showground, which is about 250 yards from the grandstand, but, for whatever reason, they declined. That's when the problems started. At the time of the Lynch, Horton bust ups in 2002 we had an Elite League side and The Pumas. From about 2003 dates started to disappear?

If there really is any interest out there then anyone who is influenced by Swann's World of Sport is a sandwich short and shouldn't be bidding anyway.

The trouble started late 90,s and just got worse season on season, Ian Jarvis always said Mercer was the problem but Mercers sidekick was just as bad.

Well maybe, but the Hortons seemed to get into conflict with all the stadium bosses they came into contact with. Seemed to be a bit of a track record with them...

Indeed

Fair enough. I was only going by what was in the public domain which is notoriously unreliable.

Hasn't that been the problem for 5 years?

Maybe a bit harsh but it is one of the reasons I don't like wealthy benefactors coming in to run speedway teams. It is all very well having owners that can absorb big losses but how do you get someone new to take over when the novelty wears out or the money gets tight.

Just seen this - be interesting to find out how much Rene Back cost the Comets?

Premier League side Workington have made popular Dane Rene Bach a full asset of the club and confirmed he will spend another season at Derwent Park.

Bach, who has been with the club since 2012, joins from Peterborough after the two parties agreed a deal following discussions before the sports AGM earlier in the month.

“We had enquired about purchasing Rene from Peterborough prior to the last weekend’s AGM and we are pleased that we were able to conclude the deal with them.

I'm not sure that the novelty wore of. It has all been very much self inflicted when it should have been success all of the way.
