Sheffield For Sale

Recommended Posts

What sort of attendances do Sheffield Eagles get for their matches? How do they compare with the two motor sport disciplines at Owlerton - speedway and the stock cars? I take it that if Eagles do base there it will only be for first team matches?

From the clubs website;

"Sheffield Eagles would like to thank all fans, old and new who have come out this season to support the Eagles in 2012.

Ahead of our crucial play off clash with Batley this Sunday, the Eagles would like to announce that our average league attendances have risen to 1173 this year, a rise of 14% on 2011. This included our largest attendance at Don Valley Stadium since our time back in Super League over 12 years ago as 1,815 came to our winning opening league game against Swinton Lions and also experienced our excellent Carnival Day."

And from Wikipedia which i quoted in a Sheffield thread a while ago;

"Sheffield's record attendance at Owlerton was set at 3,636 for a third round Challenge Cup game against Oldham in 1989."

It's very quiet on the sale front maybe any buyers are waiting to see what comes out of the agm. From what Mr Machin is saying the impression he gives is no buyer no speedway.

well he says he is looking forward to enjoying thursday nights mingling with friends and enjoying the speedway with no worries, my bet is he has a buyer and it all needs confirming at AGM before release the news.

Doesnt any prospective buyer have to be cleared by the BSPA before the sale can go through.Something like a fit and proper person test,though if that particular magnifying glass was directed at some of the current crop of promoters theres a chance there would be very few left.(insert appropriate smiley)

What has happened to co-promoter Nigel Hinchliffe, surely he has an interest in the business or is Machin the sole owner.

Hinchliffe was writing a regular blog (Inside Line) on the website earlier in the season, but seemed to go AWOL after 3 or 4 months.

Nigel Hinchcliffe is not Promoter at the club, he is Joint Team Manager with Dave Hoggart.

Interesting to see Peterborough not in any league (pending a buyer being found), yet Sheffield are in the PL. Does this mean a buyer has been found? :unsure:

..and Hoggy on the MC.

It has been intimated that there was a possible buyer, but they were waiting too see what the changes were at the Conference, with nothing really changing at Premier League level it would appear that prospective new owner is happy with the outcome.

Hopefully we get some news in next day or two so we all know where we stand for next season.
