If One Rule Could Be Changed In League Speedway By A Public Vote, Which One Would You Change And Why & How? Closing Date: 31/10/2013

Bring back the possibility of riders being excluded for 'unfair riding'. Riders should always leave enough room for someone brave enough to squeeze through a gap to execute a pass. Granted this is not always easy for the referee to see and on some tracks riders will naturally drift wide before turning into a bend so it will be a subjective decision requiring judgement by the referee. What I don't like is this acceptance that when a rider 'slams the door shut' that this is skilful, clever or hard. I wouldn't fancy my chances on the backstraight on the outside of Mr Pedersen but would with certain other riders. Why should we condone a tactic which potentially deters a rider from attempting an overtake? In my opinion by accepting this as a legitimate tactic we are lessening the spectacle.

Were a rider to be excluded for unfair riding this would introduce some controversy into a meeting and be a talking point - is this a bad thing given how bland many meetings seem to be now?

Radical idea. People say close score lines make for more entertaining racing, so..............

Double points every time a team goes 4 or more points down. Don't have to nominate a rider for the table cloth, just standard colours and the double points goes to the rider that finishes furthest ahead

Just a thought

Stop these restarts when a rider gets a flyer.

as long as the tapes are not touched good luck to him.

Totally agree Banger, i am sure some refs hold the tapes deliberately. You can't have it both ways, the rider guesses right he is brought back if he touches the tapes he is out.For me it adds something to the meeting if they hit the tapes fine out they go,otherwise let it go. Edited by sidney

Get rid of the 2 min clock at the start line. I have spoken to a few referees and most are convinced the riders use the time having arrived at the start to carry out gardening etc right up to the time limit.

If allowed another one, on a restart due to tape infringement where all four are allowed back, the pit gates remain shut and the riders should go straight back to the start.

Whether or not modern music will bring people into speedway (although, once I see the bikes lining up at the tapes for the next heat I've forgotten what was being played anyway) I'll get into the spirit of the thread. When a rider is put out of a match in an incident for which an opponent is exqualified/discluded/whatever the current term is, his rides (including any re-run of the original incident) can be covered by rider replacement. It is so unfair if a team's #1 (for example) is skittled out of a match by an opponent to only allow reserves to cover his rides.

Good shout Mr Rabbit. It is very unfair when you lose your top riders to foul riding by the opposition and then can't cover their rides with anything other than reserves. R/R would be helpful as it would keep the scores a little closer.

It makes the image of Speedway totally Mickey Mouse.

Totally agree......I think it is a farce when one team can take ten races to get theirselves ten points In front.......and bam...within the next two races the opposition are one point in front, thanks to the double point rule....total nonsense!!!

I don't want ANY form of Tactical Ride. NO Double Points, NO Tactical Substitutes absolutely NOTHING.

For Heavens sake, let the Sport itself do the talking - WITHOUT trying to FIDDLE close Results. Those Results that have been FIDDLED are FALSE anyway due to the very fact that they have been - FIDDLED!!

I'd get rid of the double points rule and allow a team who is 6 points down to chose gate positions only

I'd also like the away team to have a practice before the meeting, perhaps 4 laps each rider with 2 on track at a time just so the away team has the chance of being set up from the start and hopefully a more competitive meeting from heat 1, might do away with the follow the leader first few races too actually!

I'd ban the riders from putting their helmets on during meeting presentations and it would be good to hear from both team managers before and after a meeting on the mike to make comments about what went good and what went wrong. Ideally a small press conference would be held after each meeting ........

The after match press conference has been done at LEICESTER this season, its done from the terrace on the first bend, in a football type mini studio with sponsor board behind... Seems to work very well...

I know people who were happy with the old rule, and think the double/rule as it is now is a joke. Also my boys mate has watched speedway round ours a few times so he is impartial and he thinks the rule is laughable. So the old tactical rule was far from perfect but a damn site better than this Micky mouse rule we have now.
