Ipswich V Newcastle League Cup Final 19th September 2013

Recommended Posts

They're currently sweeping the water off the track. Lets look on the bright side, at least it wont be as cold as when Newcastle came down at the end of last season. But it must be hard to take for a promoter, you reach a cup final and get a crap crowd, I hope I'm wrong but I can only see the diehards turning up tonight.

Some blue sky kicking about over Foxhall so absolutely no doubt of it not going ahead as things stand .

In stadium now , teams track walking , looks more like a meeting by the Witches on 3rd/4th bend .

They have put additional material down and it doesn't look like a good surface to my untrained eye but what do I know .

Very happy with 12 points. A superb result and as good as anyone would have hoped for. Considering the conditions it turned into a surprisingly good meeting. Both sides deserve a lot of credit for their efforts. Very impressed with Rosen who was quick and rode some intelligent lines. Great response from Morten after his nightmare at Somerset - more of the same please!! Race of the night between Ben and Worrall had the crowd on their feet and rightly so. Lastly spare a thought for all those that have got the job of washing down the equipment and kit!

Track rode well, Barker slid off probably due to conditions, but Ellis and Kerr's crashes would probably happened any night. All up and alright though. Bit of a strange night though, who would have thought 1) Worrall outscore Barker but only scored 7 and 5. 2) Newcastle reserves would outscore Witches reserves. And the Witches still take a 12 point lead.

Heeps given MoM but could have quite easily gone to Risager or Tungate.

Witches:

Barker - Worst Witches home score but superb ride in heat 13 with Worrall.

Heeps - Solid night, couple of great first corners to take the lead.

Tungate - Shocking 2nd ride but fine after that

Lanham - Used head to outfox others in first turns, Good night

Risager - Great 2 wins but then poor gate in third heat. heat 13 ride with Barker could be match winner.

Ellis - night to forget, bike down on power?

Hawkins - Another to use experience to score vital points

Diamonds:

Worrall - Great race with Barker in 13 but dissapointing

R/R - Robson should have scored more than 5+2

Tully - Night to forget, 1st bike had problems, 2nd? not quick

Lindgren - Top scored, got better as night went on

Rosen - Great debut on tricky track, very fast bikes.

Schramm - won heat 2.......

Kerr- Gating was great but some strange 1st corners let others past. in 5 of 1st 8 heats....

12 points should mean an interesting return leg, Diamonds fans on back straight certainly think its theirs......

Pleased with the 12pt lead but is it enough ? Not sure .

Track was always going to play a big part in tonights meeting after the rain .

Ben , poor night and we can't blame his injury any more after two double figure scores for Brum in the last week .

Cam , another good night in keeping with this season .

Ronan , a good evening with only one poor race .

Leigh , decent enough meeting , always looking solid .

Morten , good night , joint top score and showed that he can ride away from the white line when necessary . let's hope he can do the business from 5 in the away leg .

Adam , unfortunately looked out of his depth tonight on the dodgy track and it showed in his lack of points .

Ritchie , 7 paid 10 return and seems to be coming good at the right time .

For the Diamonds Rosen seems to be quite a find , Lindgren scored well , Worrall below par , Tully a poor night , Kerr chipped in and Schrammy is Schrammy as we all know at Ipswich , a good win followed by poor races .

All to play for in the 2nd leg now .

As Super Blue says, all to play for in the second leg.

I think both teams will be content with a 12 point difference - good enough lead to defend, but not too much that it can't be attacked robustly. Too big a lead will demoralise many opponents, but that's definitely not the case here.

I suspect it will still be the Witches to lose though - their form on the road this year has been consistently strong, and swings this tie in their favour.

Roll on the 29th - let's hope the current decent weather holds out until then!

As a neutral I thought it was a pretty good match on a tricky surface. Witches have to feel happy with 12 lead as after 11 it was too close to call. Barker had a bad night but his first lap of ht 13 to let risager get away was terrific team thinking.

Whilst Newcastle are a really good side I think 12 should be just enough for ipswitch unless the home reserves completely run riot on sunday

Ipswich's to lose given that the Harry Potter Sorting Hat is allowed in the LC.

Barker, Lanham, Tungate all good enough around Brough to keep this close enough for the trophy win.

Win or lose I hope that thr T/R doesnt come in to it

But like it or not its part of the game and could play its part.

Scores of 10,8,6,6,4,4,2 needed looks easy in print but will be anything but! A solid start is vital.

Forgot to mention the small band of Diamonds fans that were just behind me at the top of the stand - complete with loud hailer!!

Hope you enjoyed the night despite the result ( certainly seemed to be having fun) as it did add to the atmospere.

Second block of the new part so just at the exit of turn 2.

You didnt see/hear the loud hailer then?

Atmosphere always feels subdued even when people do get a bit excited. The downside of such a vast open bowl stadium.

I was shouting and cheering anyway!
