Swindon V Poole El Semi Final Play Off 1st Leg 23/9/13

Recommended Posts

Surprised Swindon have given up the chance of progressing through to the final in front of their own fans but I am guessing it will be a huge crowd next Monday at Blunsdon for the first leg.

Swindon start as clear favourites for this one and the title but Pirates will be no pushovers and it could be quite close over the two legs.

I think the winner of this semi will go on to be crowned the Champions.

Come on Pirates, we have nothing to lose and everything to gain. If we get knocked out it will be expected, but to battle past Swindon will be joyous considering the season we have had this year.

Bring it on! We can do this! Our boys are up for it and on good form!

Up the Pirates!!

Will be a small crowd with Swindon Town playing Bristol City on the sat and Then Chelski on the Tuesday I never seen anyone with the choice take the home leg first this is total madness. What was the point of making a big deal of takeing on Poole for a big crowd and the money and then doing this ?

Swindons to lose!!!

It certainly is as they start as clear favourites. Considering the season we have had it is quite remarkable to have finally nailed down 4th place. But it was well deserved in the end. Considering our injuries this year we can take good heart to know we made the playoffs.

But now it is all square and there really isn't any pressure on us. We can go into these two fixtures knowing that if we make the final it will be a huge bonus to us. For Swindon and their fans, it will be expected of them to go on to the final. All the pressure on their shoulders and not ours for a change.

Poole can win this. We only lost by 7 a couple of weeks ago at Blunsdon and beat Swindon by 8 at home. Sure Kildemand was missing and that's why Swindon are favourites, but we can do it.

Up the Pirates!

Have to agree. Couldn't understand Rosco when he said it was City on the Saturday and then Chelsea on the Tuesday. Common sense would say no way to run on the Monday then. Not logical but the call has now been made.

This thread may be wrong as Rosco stated that due to the football they may want to race at Poole first. I have not seen anything yet confirming if we race home or away on 23rd.

Have to agree Shov. This will be close over two legs. Most of the Pirates ride Blunsdon well and in Ward, Hancock and Janowski, they have arguably the best heat leader trio, specifically for the Blunsdon track. Jonasson surely can't be as poor as last time, save for one decent ride, but much will depend who they have at reserve. If it's Gracionek then that will give them some muscle in the lower order. The Swindon side are generally all firing, so I will predict a six point win at Blunsdon for the Robins, setting up a classic encounter at Wimbourne Road.

Taken from poolespedway.co

Poole will face a mouth-watering two-legged play-off semi final tie against defending league champions Swindon after the Pirates' place in the championship deciding play-offs was confirmed when Lakeside failed to secure maximum points against Swindon to complete their league programme.

Poole, who finished three points clear of the Hammers have now made the initial stages of the play-offs for the 9th time since they were first introduced in 2002 and they will be seeking their seventh appearance in the final, if they can overcome the Robins on aggregate over the next two Mondays, which as Poole boss Matt Ford admits will be "no mean feat".

"It has been a victory to get this far to be honest and over the course of the season you have to acknowledge that Swindon have been a better team than us. They have consistently had a very strong 1-7 and you look at their team and all you see is an abundace of match-winners. The likes of Nick Morris and Peter Kildemand can beat anyone on their day and throughout they have riders who enjoy riding at Poole and score big.

"They are sure to start as favourites and rightly so but who knows what might happen over just two legs. It will be no mean feat to beat them but I know our lads will be up for the challenge.

"It's going to be an intense couple of speedway meetings without a doubt and they have opted for the home leg first so we will know what task faces us on September 30th - a date that all Poole fans need to firm up in their diaries.

"We have witnessed all sorts of roller-coaster emotions here at Poole in recent years at this stage of the season and this forthcoming chapter is likely to be up there with them.

In the other semi-final Wolverhampton will host their first leg against Birmingham, who topped the table for the first time in their history which earned them the right to choose their opponents.

The winners from both semis will then meet in the title determining final to be staged, again over two legs, on Monday October 7th and 14th

I see laurel and hardy are making Swindon favourites here !! What a surprise !! This is a 50/50 tie could go either way !!

Don't be ridiculous. Even the most ardent Poole fans know Swindon are clear favourites. No getting away from the fact. I would love it to be 50/50 but it's more 75/25 in Swindons favour.

Couldn't agree more total stupidity racing the first leg at home-even worse as I shan't be back in time from the Stockholm GP to see it!!!

Agree with Lord Porn of Dorset that the winners of this tie will be crowned champions

of the last Sky Elite League as we know it.

Totally pitiful crowd at Blunsdon tonight after a silly postponement last Monday

and a late start (7.45)and long track grading gap when the rain moved in last

Thursday The fans are p..... off.

Will Tango Ronnie give the Robins the bit more grip Rosco says they need now that

Midland Robin has stepped back?

Anybody knows Swindon are favourites i agree, Swindon have been head and shoulders the better team all season long. I cannot believe anyone would have Poole down as favourites.
