Wolves V Birmingham Play Off Semi 1st Leg - 23rd September

Recommended Posts

I reckon getting the engines tuned perfectly and trialing different setup's carries more value than being buried under the airfence ;)

If Smolinski & Auty don't know the set ups for WV2 by now that'd be a bit worrying and the NA is hardly the test bed to use in any case one would have thought.

Really looking forward to this, we were always going to pick Wolves after finishing top and I really hope there are big crowds at Monmore Green and Perry Barr.

Its going to be a fascinating two legs, in both meetings at Wolves this year we have come away with different results and different performances, The first match was great, had a big contribution from Smolinski at reserve and an a decent allround team performance. The second was different, we were outshone at reserve by Thorsell and there were some poor perforamces from riders that had previously gone well at Wolves like Chris Harris and Danny King.

The worry I have about Monday, is at reserve for us. Early in the year we were winning plenty of matches with Smolinski there, he was a matchwinner. Its just not been the same with Josh, certaintly of late I think he is lacking in confidence and form. He gives 100% and cant you ask for more but he is struggling. Monmore isnt his favourite track he has said that but I remember him scoring 12 from reserve there last season. He was a strong reserve in 2012 which lead to him putting two pts on his average and a move into the main body, he can be that strong reserve again. Nico has shown a liking for the Wolves track and had a decent night last night, fingers crossed he make that two in a row at Wolves on Monday.

So its a tough one to predict on one hand we have 4/5 riders that could do well and if the riders that dont usually do well there have a rare good night then anything is possible. On the other hand, like last time if we dont get much contribution from reserve and a few of the top 5 have poor nights it will be tough. We need to keep the it as close as possible for the return leg. Hope theres plenty of good racing, like there normally is at Wolves and really glad theres a big screen to watch the other match

Good to see Wolves saying its normal admission for monday. :drink::t:

Non the less, no point rolling up at Monmore on Monday with R/R and a guest was there ?, as far as form goes, Wednesday was pretty meaningless with the knowledge one team wasn't riding at 100%.

Great post Kev.

I really am so pumped for these matches. Early indications are the weather is set fair (fingers crossed).

Both sides have riders who can score anything from 2-10 so literally anything can happen in this meeting.

The key for Wolves is the track, if its prepared well with the inside lines working it should suit them. If that line isn't there then Wolves generally struggle and more so against Birmingham who have many riders who like to ride wide.

He's a great rider to watch, Freddie and Tai had better watch out for him!

Its not Jason you have to worry about, its Ben Barker.. Especially when you get back to Perry Barr.. ;)

The bloke who worries me most is Jason Doyle. Whatever happened to the bloke who fell off so often you could set your watch by him?

Totally agree. OK, we had the 'Smolinski effect' early on, which is still there to some extent, but for me, Jason Doyle has been signing of the season for us. Let's not forget he's been on the winning side the last two years and is really going to want to make it a hat trick. Sure, we've been written off as 'No1-less wonders' many times this year, but then there's always been that 'Yes, but what if....' factor about the Brummies all season. Edited by Leicester Hunter

On the Speedway Tavern tonight (Friday) we have interviews from the recent home match V kings Lynn. And we will be discussing both teams chances for the forthcoming semi-finals. Matt Buck will be talking up the Wolverhampton side of things and my good self will be taking the position that Brummies are best.

We would love to see as many Brummie and Wolves fans as possible taking part in the debate via the shoutbox. Lets get the banter going early.
