Ipswich 2014

Good luck to Cam for his op today.

We need him fit and firing if we are going to be challenging this season.

I understand that stadium bosses Spedeworth International are planing a further upgrade of facilities at Foxhall Heath. It seems that besides their own major two-day annual event in mid-season (as well as their usual car race programmes) they also hope to eventually promote the prestige Brisca Formula One World Championship - this usually takes place in early September.

Aside from that, I wonder if eventually Ipswich could be a place for major speedway championships on a regular basis each season? Is there any sound of that happening on the Foxhall Heath speedway jungle drums?

Or could Speedworth the leaseholders eventually squeeze Speedway out of Foxhall as they are only 55 meeting allowed a year by the local council. That is combined Speedway and Stock Car. It stands to reason that more stock car will be less Speedway . Ironically the Stadium is owned by Ipswich Speedway Limited.

Would you really expect the Stocks would want to run twice a week? This is effectively what it would be (given the months run) if Speedway was pushed out.

I cant see that myself.

I also cant see that the Stocks would run midweek.

Part of the reason Stocks get good crowds IMO is that its weekends and not every week.

Id say the rent and refreshment takings from the Speedway is good business for them.

As far as I know, the new owner has no desire to prevent the speedway from running. I've no idea of the timescale to get the Brisca Final (scheduled for Cov in 2014) - they currently have one meeting per season where the Brisca motors race (this year it's a 2014 World Champs Qualifier on 21st June). They use Cherolet V8 engines with minimal silencing, and are incredibly noisy - certainly anyone who hears their roar can't complain about the short tinny bursts of speedway.

Coventry Stadium sold today it seems and the greyhounds already moving out as no new lease expected.

Unclear as to the impact on Speedway and Stocks (if any) at this time.

On the refreshment takings, I'd expect them to go up nicely now that there's more choice and IMO better food than previously.

I've not really been one to eat at Foxhall as quite frankly, and again IMO, it's been poor for years.

But the new fish and chips on the second bend were fabulous!

So Joe Jacobs has been sold to Coventry.

Only time will tell if this is shorted sighted or a wise move.

Good luck to Joe for 2014 and ahead.

Maybe that will help with his form dipping in the second half of the season, and as far challenging for number 1, I don't see it happening unless Ritchie has a less than good start to the season. Although rohan still hasn't been racing for very long really, he does need to make a pretty big step next season if he really is to become a top rider in a couple of years.

So this year its Rohan's time to want to be number 1, Should have a better shot at it than Morten did last year! :D

As for Jabobs, he wanted transfer last year and after being overlooked for last years number 7 spot was always going to leave when Louis had suitable offer. Playing devils advocate here but Maybe Louis has pulled a fast one!? Don't transfers normally get paid for over 3 years? If Coventry were to finish then Jacobs would revert back to the Witches....... :o

Ipswich ‘Sackers’ Witches fans will be breathing a sigh of relief today as their Aussie whizz-kid Cameron Heeps looks all set to be fit for the start of the season.
The 18-year-old, who is now back in England, underwent a successful operation on his troublesome wrist last week and the early prognosis is good, with the talented teenager desperate to get back on a bike.
“I still have a little bit of pain, but other than that all seems fine,” Heeps said.
“I go back to see the specialist on March 5 and we will know more then, but it seems things are looking good already.
“My plan was always to target press and practice day (March 17) for my return and that date hasn’t changed. I told the surgeon that was the date I would like to go for and he agreed it was more than possible.”
Heeps endured a quiet time Down Under in the winter as he sought to rest his wrist ahead of the English season.
He rode in the Aussie Under-21s but admitted he was ‘not prepared enough’ and scored just four points.
“My whole time in Oz – as I wasn’t riding very much – I hated it,” Heeps added.
“I’m buzzing to get going. I can’t wait to get on the bike again, that’s all I want to do.”
Those words will be music to the ears of the Foxhall faithful with Heeps looking to improve on a hugely successful 2013 season, despite the fact that, once again, he hasn’t got an Elite League club to double up with.
“The new rulings about riders at reserve in the Elite League have hit the likes of myself,” he added.
“I want to ride as much as I can and I would like a go in the Elite League. Perhaps it won’t happen. We’ll see.
“We (the Witches) look a pretty solid line-up and Ritchie Hawkins will be a great captain, he’s a real laugh and good for team spirit.”
The Witches’ season begins on Saturday, March 22 with the Morten Risager Testimonial meeting. That will feature, among others, Niels-Kristian Iversen, Kenneth Bjerre, Scott Nicholls and most of the Witches team.
Hopefully all goes well then and maybe he will be after the number one spot too! ;)
Also seems P & P is March the 17th
