greyhoundp
Tomorrow sees the visit of the in form Young Stars, with the first Monmore Wood visit of Robert Lambert, who is being touted in some quarters as the new "Woofy"and backed up by Lewis Kerr, those two are arguably the strongest top two in the NL. The Heathens will need to be at there very best to take some sort of defendable lead to Norfolk the following night, in my opinion we will need at the very least a double points lead to defend in the return leg. I think we will be in for some exciting racing, and even without Robert Lambert a big crowd would be guaranteed, but Im sure many neutral Speedway fans will want to see the first appearance of Robert Lambert in the West Midlands. Good luck to all the riders, stay safe, and hopefully we will be in the form to "Ommer Um" maybe not by 20 or so, but hopefully a teen figure lead, the Young Stars will be tough, probably the toughest of all, because i expect the winners of this, to go on and win The KO Cup. Teams, DUDLEY: Paul Starke, Gareth Isherwood, Ashley Morris, Max Clegg, Lewis Blackbird, Dan Greenwood, Nathan Greaves. KING’S LYNN: Robert Lambert, Lewis Rose, Darren Mallett, Jake Knight, Lewis Kerr, Shane Waldron, Shane Hazelden, if Lewis Rose is unfit, then RR will operate. According to the fixtures, the match at the Norfolk Arena on the following day (ie Weds 11th.) is actually not the return leg of the KOC semi but is in fact the League match. The second leg of the semi of the KOC is at Saddlebow the FOLLOWING Weds.: the 18th. Although I suppose this may have changed..?

Parsloes 1928 nearly
Ah right - only the BSPA website doesn't show that change. Was planning to go up next Weds (ie the 18th.) for the KOC second leg... A 'dead rubber' NL fixture ain't nearly such an attractive proposition... greyhoundp
Well that was a surprising result, not so in the outcome, but the 56-34 scoreline to The Heathens, never in my wildest dreams did i expect a 22 points win, and i cant really see any way back for Kings Lynn at the Norfolk Arena, For The Heathens there Heat leader Trio only dropped 2 points to the visitors from 14 rides, They were backed up solidly by Gareth Isherwood, and a returning to form Dan Greenwood, who scored paid 10 from five rides, Nathan Greaves again struggled, and i think fell in all his 3 rides, Max Clegg rode well for his two points if one can say that , and was ridiculously excluded in Ht 14 for allegedly bringing down Jake Knight, when he clearly didnt touch him, that would have been another 5-1. For Kings Lynn Lewis Kerr was there star rider, but for him it would have been another 60 point scoreline, he was involved in all the best races of the night, Jake Knight and Darren Mallett tried hard, but the others were simply blown away, which brings me to Robert Lambert, out on the parade wearing his shades, jeez it was overcast, walking towards the starting line he chose to walk on the inside away from the crowd, and all the remaining riders, that was just an observation by me, but now to his riding which we all wanted to see, i expected something special we certainly got it, in his 1st ride he gated and was gone, he was miles in front when he locked up on turns 3/4 and fell, he got back on to finish 3rd wheelying over the line. In his 2nd race he missed the gate, and was pushed out wide, then on turn 4 he drifted wide and kissed the fence, gradually caught up, but then coming off the final bend, he got a handful of throttle lifted and fell as he crossed the line, 3rd race something wrong it was an ordinary race, and he came a fighting 2nd, having seen off Dan Greenwood, 4th race he was off gate 2, Starkey off gate 1, Starkey beat him to the bend, Robert got squeezed and fell, then stayed down to the annoyance of the crowd, The Heathens were on a 5-1, his final race Ht 15 off the outside, his bike failed on the start line, so to sum up an eventful 1st visit to Monmore Wood for young Robert, but hopefully he will have learnt something. All in all a good meeting for The Heathens, some good racing involving Lewis Kerr, Paul Starke, Ashley Morris, and the invincible it seems Lewi,Lewi Blackbird, a good advert for NL racing..and well done to The Heathens. Greyhoundp as you wont accept PM's can I remind you here please to put DATES in meeting topic headings when starting new topics Edited September 11, 2013 by greyhoundp
speedibee
Who was the referee ? , With a ridiculous decision to be accounted for , My guess would be Margaret Vardy

Ommer Mon
Graham Reeve was in charge according to the programme and in fairness Graham is a very good referee but I have to agree with GreyhoundP that he looked to have got that one spectacularly wrong. Max went charging up the inside, Jake went wide under the pressure and came off. Full credit to Kings Lynn they really came to give it a go last night and in my book it was the best meeting of the season at Monmore Wood. Lewis Kerr is a class act and was given a good ovation by the faithful after the final race. Lewis, Starkie and Ash were tremendous yet again and the back up was there too apart from Nathan who had an unfortunate night. He'll come back from that though! Poor Rob Lambert - what a night. It started badly and went downhill from there. The lad is an immense talent and one of England's best prospects but it didn't work for him last night. I think the crowd may have got to him a bit and he ended up overtrying. He will be back to haunt us in the future, no doubt, if he stays around the NL. Shame tonight's second leg is off. nigelb
Went to the meeting last night as I happened to be in Wolverhampton - my old home town - and was looking forward to seeing Robert in competitive action. However, I think I must be his jinx! When I saw him at Rye he fell off doing a few laps on his own and last night everything went wrong for him. I can see from youtube and his scores in the NL he is a major talent - BUT no way should he go to EL next season, and perhaps he can take a learning from his encounter last week and check out the following: Chris Holder - PL - EL - World Champ; Tai - NL - PL - EL - hopefully the next World Champ; Michael Lee - NNL - BL - World Champ; Darcy - NL - PL - EL - major GP star; and finally Lewis B: NL - EL.......greater experience of tight first bends, variety of track sizes will do him greater good for the future; hopefully last night will wake him and his advisors to this as he has plenty of time on his side (oh, and can he come and ride for Rye when he is 16!) I, too, went to Monmore Wood in the hope of seeing a future world star in top class form eclipsing all the Heathens! What I saw was a spoilt 15 year old who had no idea how to walk out with his own team mates, try to ride off when Porky was introducing the meeting & riders, try to do practice starts on the hallowed starting gate shale before the meeting starts! His performance on the bike was an absolute disaster for him to say the least. Every body knows that Monmore is a very hard track to ride but if I were him, his advisor or parent I would take stock of what went on & learn from it! I agree that perhaps a DU 2014 season with a smaller track in the NL & what ever in the PL then DU in the PL & EL in 2015 would help him no end. Good luck with whichever way Robert goes in 2014 but he cannot have a bad a night as last night for a long while. greyhoundp
that had nothing to do with the call off, it rained all morning in K L and started again about 7,15. We dont do things like that in Norfolk To be honest i saw the forecast the day before and it looked very doubtful, it still looks doubtful, for next week if the 10 day forceast is correct, anyways whenever the second leg is ridden it should be an entertaining meeting, i much prefer to see KL with a full strength Team, RR is not good for Speedway, we have our lead, and if we cant defend a 22 point lead then we dont deserve to get through, all being well we will have a full strength side on Track, and 25 points from our 3 heat leaders, 6 from Dan the man, and 3 between Cleggy, Nate and Ishy will be enough, not forgetting if we are that far behind we can throw in a double points ride here and there. In my meeting report i didnt go in for Robert bashing, i wrote as i saw it, some people seem to forget he is after all only 15 years old, he is very talented, maybe a special talent, but he needs experience, and at this moment in time, he needs experience of tracks that are different to what he is used to riding, a seasons riding NL & PL will do wonders for him, forget EL for now, take the oportunity to have a full seasons racing at the lower levels, its not about when Robert makes the gate, but its when he misses it he needs to learn, especially on Tracks such as Monmore Wood. Don't forget he is still only a kid of 15 yrs old.Things he will learn in good time. How many kids do behave like this anyway, when he gets to 18,19,20yrs old then that would be the time to judge whether he's a spoilt brat or not .What I have seen of him this year he certainly has the talent, courage and speed to go further in the sport.Lets not knock our kids before they really get going in the sport they all need our encouragement. Bagpuss
Indeed, we need to be careful not to go OTT with the criticism. How many fifteen year olds don't act like berks? Unfortunately in speedway we seem to knock any decent Brit who doesn't ride for our own team. He can go as far as he wants in speedway IMO and, like Darcy Ward did, he will grow up with experience. Certainly a few EL meetings next year won't be beyond his capabilities or do him any harm.
