Guest
Looking at the long range weather forecast, it probably won't matter who was programmed to ride anyway. Unless it suddenly changes, I won't make the long journey....sadly. It doesn't look too good. This is BBC Weather for Monday in Sittingbourne - http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2637802

Guest
Names are being dripfed on the Kings' twitter feed: https://twitter.com/kentspeedway I appreciate this advice but I cannot seem to get any further with the Kings' twitter feed than Chris Hunt as Wimbledon team manager and Chris Scramm as a rider. How long will those who can only access the Kings' website have to wait and possibly see what fate has befallen (or otherwise) Andre Cross? Don'sfreelancerider
Then who is his replacement? What is the Dons' team for this match? I must say I am surprised to hear this - Andre was also named for the previous match. It's hard to understand why. Boss Man Len is trying out a youngster for next years team. Don't mind trying out the youngster but if you wanted some Don's fans coming to support the Don's (which I know quite a few were going to see Andre) I would of kept Andre in as he was a popular rider at Plough Lane. That news will go down well on the Wimbledon discussion forum and the Wimbledon Speedway Supporters site. I wonder how many are going to change their minds about attending the meeting when they hear this - they want to see guys who had links to the Plough Lane days not just unknowns (to them) wearing what are purported to be a Wimbledon race jacket. Beckford Boy
Getting back to London by train (if indeed that's the direction you want..) is extremely easy - the advantage of the early finish! The track's about a 15 minute walk from the station - usually not difficult to find a friendly person to give you a lift back to the railway station! You must be an Olympic athlete if you can do it in 15mins,I have been 3 times and 35 mins is my best shout from the station to the track. As for the return journey all that keeps me going is the thought of the Wetherspoons in the High St,do able in 25mins,leaving a 10 min stagger to the station. Guest
As of 14 minutes ago (5.15pm) on the Twits! feed we have - Chris Schramm, Ryan Terry-Daley, Kelsey Dugard, Brendan Johnson. Three to go - and who has been pulled into the side for Andre Cross - or is he still involved? Cross is the only rider to have played a significant role as a Wimbledon team regular in the Conference League era. We already have two in the side for odd reasons - one because his dad was a Wimbledon track raker and the other because his grandfather and later his dad once rode for Wimbledon. Not such a strong credential as that of Andre Cross - or have I lost the plot in regard to the make-up of the Wimbledon side? waco
Kelsey Dugard being the latest member of the Dugard dynasty at Eastbourne i would imagine will pull a fair few fans from down there ..Obviously Len is trying to put out two balanced sides to provide a competitive match for the fans to watch Which is what is importent... Parsloes 1928 nearly
I suspect this is because you're walking the long way using the route vehicles have to take. If you cut up Dolphin Rd. and then left down past the houses, sports ground and working man's club on Church Road (this way's blocked off to traffic) you cut a very significant amount off the walk. We already have two in the side for odd reasons - one because his dad was a Wimbledon track raker and the other because his grandfather and later his dad once rode for Wimbledon. Got your generations wrong - and considering you're the Wimbledon history expert am surprised! Charlie Dugard is Kelsey's GREAT-grandfather and Bob his grand-father. Considering that Schrammy and Chris Mills are the ONLY two Dons riders from 2002-'05 currently riding league Speedway, there did have to be some other 'connections' drawn - and being a fourth generation Don and in RTD's case the son of a Plough Lane track raker seem pretty good connections from where I'm standing. But this is supposed to be a match designed to bring old Wimbledon fans together - isn't it...? No, it's meant to be about showing that Wimbledon can still be a club which if it returned to Plough Lane would have support. Which of course we know it would. It's NOT a reunion..

Got your generations wrong - and considering you're the Wimbledon history expert am surprised! Charlie Dugard is Kelsey's GREAT-grandfather and Bob his grand-father. I am far from being "the Wimbledon history expert". But I do know the Dugards - back to Charlie and his promoting days at Eastbourne. I also remember, circa 1954-55, a schoolboy Bobby having practice rides after the meeting. But that generation gap - one out - is perhaps because at my great age I refuse to recognise where my own generation fits into the equation. Knowing dear old Charlie and his great sense of humour, were he still with us like you he would have chided me for my mistake - and had a good laugh with me about it. But please - again - no more wrongly crediting me as "the Wimbledon history expert" - as one might say "that cap sits uncomfortably on my head". P1928 - thanks for trying to make it fit me. I just wish it did. Edited September 6, 2013 by Guest
Mimmo
My sincere apologies. I was just trying to help the Wimbledon cause. I have used HIDE for my original Post. If you go to your eply which does carry it, near the quote buttons to the left a series of options will appear. One of them says HIDE. Hit that and all open appearances of my most unfortunate message will be hidden. I've e-mailed you and accepted your apologies privately, and will now do so publically. Matter closed. Guest
As the topic suggests, I have heard a little whisper of a Challenge Match between The Dons and Kent. Can anyone confirm or deny? I have had no luck in this quest. Can another member contact a Mod and ask if they would be kind enough to put the date and time to the main heading on this thread. Many thanks. Guest
The Kent Kings website says of next Monday's match: "To help keep the famous Speedway name of the Dons alive, Wimbledon are Monday evening’s visitors at Central Park to contest the John Cearns Cup." That's not strictly correct. There is no actual Wimbledon team/club these days. That should of course read "a team labelled as Wimbledon" or perhaps as one poster on the Wimbledon Speedway discussion forum called it "Uncle Len's Select".
