BWitcher
and Bjarne, Davey and KK will get their deserved applause on Wednesday!! Going to make a concerted effort to get to KK's meeting, but I'll probably give up and coast back home not far in to the journey.
Guest
What's the longest time a 2nd halfer ever rode at a track.? Seem to recall Bill Haynes rode at Smallmead for quite a while...though whether he qualified for a testimonial i'm not sure.. Is this the same Bill Haynes (we knew him as Billy) who used to ride at Wimbledin and California (in England) in the late 1950s?
Elephantman
Interesting article, thank you for the link. Did you know that Steve Bacon who is mentioned as West Hams' official photographer is the same Steve Bacon who was breaking into Speedway photography on the late 60's/early 70s. He and Mike Patrick started around the same time particularly the London and Home Counties clubs and it is fair to say that the crop of photographers at that time had Speedway pretty much sewn up. Mike had a tough time but eventually got there and Steve went on to pursue other sports but you will find some of his early Speedway work in dribs and drabs in old SS's, Speedway Argus, Home Counties newspapers and some club programmes. Another useless factoid! I remember his photo's well. Is that the same Steve Bacon who raced for Whipps Cross Cycle Speedway team in 1967/68? http://www.spokesman-online.co.uk/15.html Team photo towards the bottom of the page posted 26th March.
