Arson fire
It is about the complete package. Surely riders must be a variable when considering the quality of racing, or is it all down to track? but the package isn't complete as the most important part ,the team isn't competitive and the racing pretty poor. The quality of riders for the sky match was premier league standard that you see most weeks.... The track was superb... And judging from some of those there most weeks inc a rider, it's hardly ever the same from one week to the next. Some people are orgasmic about just seeing 7 blokes in black and gold no matter what, but I don't think the majority are.... They want to see a winning team and good racing.... Even if its 3 Iranians, 2 Turks, a Peruvian and a paddy.

PW was despairing at the crowd levels during our most successful year on track, and incredible racing from Makovsky, Schramm, Scud, Pietrasko, Tom P., Adrian, et al. It perhaps, isn't the real key.... I did Ed dont worry. Ok, sorry sweetheart x
Fromafar
dont think you were unlucky ed, altough your team rode much better than they have this season. People go to speedway to be entertained and also see there team winning, it's all well and good having excelled off the track, but it's the Berwick Bandits speedway team people support and go to see, surely that should be a priority?? I was a regular visitor to Berwick the past few years but to be honest the racing was mainly dire. How can they can get the track spot on for tv meeting and FIM meetings, yet hardly ever for Run of the mill premier league meetings?? It's seems to me that having a successful team on track with a track prepared consistently is secondary to pleasing the powers that be to gain plaudits. If they don't sort this for ordinary joe soap who goes weekly then the massive strides made off the track will be pointless as fans vote with their feet and wallet....I used to spend about 30 quid and double that if I brought the kids.. Without these fans there is no speedway... They are the most important aspect of any club. In this climate people want value for hard earned money, not many and even some die hards will just throw it at watching follow the leader on a cold Saturday night.... Berwicks promotion are to be commended over the past few years but its about Berwick speedway, not the fim, sky, pies, burgers, race suits.... Everything is overhyped constantly.... Being a Berwick fan must be like following nufc??!! I agree with you,the carry-on with track prep early season should not have happened, like you say perfect for showing the world how good we are and mediocre a lot of the time.for the first ever I missed home meetings because I was p*ssed of with the track.I know a few diehards who had the same feelings.Hopefully next season we won't have to discuss track prep as much.A directors statement 2-3 meetings into the season saying they would get it right is not good enough. Lord Antebellum
In amongst a fair bit of nonsense in this thread, someone pointed out that Berwick were expecting to enter the league with a different side, built around a double spearhead of Ashworth and Alden. The late withdrawal by Alden had the effect of taking not only him, but young Albin (well thought of as an out and out trier at Sheffield) out of the line-up, and caused an imbalanced team, especially after Ashworth was injured the first time. I think in Kozza Smith the Bandits did find a returning hero, but others weren't always at the races. I have seen them five times in 2013, and at no time have they looked a bad team, but just not good enough without Alden and Ashworth as a big top two. As a fairly avid reader of many threads on this forum, I see a couple of regulars who have nothing but poisonous mischief in mind -- one in particular is clearly jealous or envious of the promotion/management. Very sad.

It perhaps, isn't the real key.... Ok, sorry sweetheart x yes but as I said earlier, times are harder for most now, so it's a decision which they will take even easier to stay away.... For example,I've been going to speedway for 33 years, religiously every week and often away...but now I won't go to a meeting if its obvious it will be tripe... The recent test match I gave a miss because of the gulf between the sides and thought it would be rubbish, I didn't decide to go on Sunday until the last minute and only because I wasnt doing anything as it was obvious we would hammer you's..(not being cocky or taking the pee).. Even still I left after heat 13 as it was awful.... Which ive never done..So if the likes of me are changing tact, and loosing interest then newbies won't even get back through the turnstile.

Sad to hear that Arson. It was NOT as bad as the International though. I wished I'd stayed at home for that one. I have NEVER said that before.

YAMYAMBANDIT
crowds have been fairly consistant this year I would say. mathamatics is not my strong point but I'd say we have had better numbers this campaign, maybe wrong? Ah yes but I think you`ll find they are far more freindly with their English cousins. Plus we might just get a half decent team between the two.
