DIAMONDS
does that mean the dog track will be narrower ? No there's a small gap in between the dog track and the speedway track already.
Tsunami
The 3rd/4th bend is already 2 metres wider than the 1st/2nd bend and the outside rarely used, unless someone gets into trouble. The 4th bend inside curb is being trimmed to increase the width of the exit and bring in another racing line in. When we changed 40 posts last winter we put them back in wider to allow for the air fence. This month we will be pulling back 19 posts to straighten out and widen the run from the gate to the first bend, and to increase the width of the exit out of the second bend. The track has been dropped in height by about 1 foot, and the centre green is to be chamfered to allow more closer racing near the white line. Any humps and hollow have already been taken out, and the track is now more level than ever before. It will look really tidy, and produce a smoother track with more racing lines, which is what the riders have asked for. We start work again with the track work on Sunday 12th January, so instead of talking about it you could turn up and give us a hand to get it finished. We start at about 9.30 till about 3.30 weather permitting of course. No there's a small gap in between the dog track and the speedway track already. About 3 metres between both tracks.

I am amazed that the track has been dropped by 12 inches! I hope lowering the racing surface will not increase the chance of flooding. The fence side would need major work and the inside line/centre green too would need lots of gardening! For years now the centre green at the starting area has been too high with riders on two minutes cutting around the inside of the starting area finding the grassed area too high for their bikes to get back on the track. So this will be improved? I usually stand at the forth bend and enjoy outside overtakes. Looks now that the forth bend will only have inside lines? Have we seen the last of outside blasts around 4th bend? I hope not, I would hate to watch speedway on the white line with anyone with the bottle to full throttle around the outside coming no where. With all these alterations we will no doubt enjoy watching the first few meetings just getting used to the "New Track". I will reserve judgment until I see some passing. Again I say thank you to Dave er Tsunami and the others who are doing their best to bring us great racing. Again I say thank you to Dave er Tsunami and the others who are doing their best to bring us great racing. We are down to the level with the then new inside kerb of 1997. The track was becoming wavy, with water which lay and made it soft and easily removed by a bike. At the same time, as grass does, it increases in height over a period, and just before the start gate it is at least 15 inches above the new track level. The immediate inside grass is to be chamfered, to allow riders to ride across the line a bit like at Peterborough. This gives a closer riding inside line. The 3rd/4th bend outside is rarely used unless someone is in trouble, ex Rene Bach, and the addition of the fence will only take up about 18 inches which riders don't use now. So the big outside blast is now safer to try. It is planned, if time allows, to pave the area either side of the start gate for the riders to stand on when on the parade. Anyway, work starts again this Sunday at 9.30am, weather permitting, so if anyone fancies it, they would be more than welcome to come and get their hands clarty and dirty. Don't forget ya wellies. dantodan
Unfortunately I am unable to help with the physical stuff Tsunami. I am a little bit younger than you are but have too many ailments to offer help, mores the pity. I think you should get a medal for what you do and a few other of our guys too. My view is that coming out of bends 2 and 4 we should have inside lines and outside lines too. The spectators cannot get around to the second bend to watch, so bend 4 is the only exit bend we can get anywhere near to, to watch fairly close up. Please let bend 4 have a recognised outside line otherwise the spectacle of the sport may suffer and more importantly, I may have to move along the terracing if bend 4 becomes a boring place to watch from!!! If the track undergoes major work will we be looking for a new track record? Please let me say that any criticism in this page was made constructively. I only want the best for the track and the supporters Edited January 9, 2014 by dantodan

I only want the best for the track and the supporters Don't worry John, both the 2nd and the 4th bends will still have the blast around the boards line as well as inside lines. Both exits are being widened. Abbot is correct in that if the track length remains the same length, the current track record will still be the track record. Your position on the forth bend is looking safe.
bringbackHalifax
I am sure one of our swedes will be down at the track this Sunday mucking in and he will ensure that the outside line remains intact. I seem to remember he popped in last yr also, not sure if he helped though.

dantodan
Thanks Dave, You get used to the same spot to watch from don't you? If my first choice viewing position at the 4th bend is no longer attractive I will come along and stand it front of you at the 1st bend and block your view Ludvig stands out as capable of blasting around the 4th but new guy Anton also did it once last season, hopefully with an air fence more riders will be happy to give it some wellie around the outside. About the track length I thought bringing in the inside line would shorten the track length a little.

Tsunami
Has Lewis Rose ever ridden our track before? No All thing go go go for Sunday. We start works at Brough at about 9.30am, with post work, and scraping and painting the kickboards. Although the track will be getting drained, the softness of the track will mean that we will not be able to put machines onto the track to finish off the track leveling and the inside green trimming and chamfering. Next week probably, as long as it doesn't rain during the week. If you can help please come along, coffee, tea and bickies provided free of course. With the match at the TOON starting at 2.05PM, we will probably just work till about 1.00pm just to get things started for future weeks. NB Dirty clothes to be worn. Se ya there. We start at 9.30am, but more importantly, wrap up in old warm clothes as it is forecast to be 3 degrees all day. See ya there.

Tsunami
A great start today with a brilliant turnout. Due to the cold, I thought it was probably better to get things sorted out in readiness of starting work, but was persuaded by you that you wanted to start straightaway and get it all started. A great help which will greatly help us get all the work done on time. Great to see a rider turn up and work for the full session like everyone else, accompanied by his minder Georgie Bond. Step forward Ludde, you are a star. Thinking of the 3 Degrees today, i beg to ask "when will I see you again". Hopefully next week same place, same time, 9.30am. Tsunami
Any news about any Race Night/Talk-in type event happening? We usually have one in Jan/Early Feb. I've no doubt we will have one, but in view if the start of the season being late in March, I would have thought it would be late Feb/early March.
