Newcastle Diamonds 2014

Recommended Posts

Chin up Arson, Almost an identical team to the start of last season. We started with no number one and Richie almost got there. Anton should be able to push on and Lewis has filled the position of Tully. Our great strength was having a top five with no weak links and all of them were capable of winning the race (except against Cook haha). We've got that again. Agree we might be suspect at reserve early on but give Lewis Mk2 his chance.

Schrammy is a trump card on some of the bigger away tracks and will deffo up that average. Needs to learn to ride Brough. Ludvig at 1 is a toughie but he's top of the averages for a reason. Lets cut him some slack and see if it's the making of him. Robbo will look after both Lewis's.

Lads -if your reading this (know Ludvig does) welcome back and give em hell. Lewis Mk2 - Welcome to your new home - you're gonna love it.

aye your right.

A solid side and will certainly be competitive

Id say the key is for Rosen to step up to No1 and Rose to be able to hold his own at reserve .

The issue to begin with will be away. At home, Rosen, Robson and Lindgren can all ride like a genuine #1. But away from home Rosen will still e visiting many tracks for the first time.

I expect similar to last year though. Strong at home and no hidings away.

Very happy with that, especially with the speculation that the likes of Kerr could be away, and doubts whether we could keep a hold of both Swedes.

Robbo - Coming back from injury, but will be fine, especially when he gets fit, goes skiing in January and them back on the crosser and his speedway bike. I felt at the back end of last year the team became individuals without a leader, which is a role that Robbo does well at Brough.

Ludde - Crackers, but a canny rider, and will be the No 1 at the start, but will be challenged by Anto in no time.

Anton - Can't believe we managed to keep him, as I am sure there would have been many options for him, both here and abroad. Good company for Ludde, as long as they don't start dancing together in the bar afterwards.

Christian - Coming back from injury again. Look how he coped the last time and was last years Rider of the Year. I don't have probs with his signing, he was bringing in a bit more aggression before injury, and I think he will pick up where he left off.

Lewis K - Delighted he is back, as it was amazing to see his progress last year, following the same ascent in form that we had seen in Richie. Will go on to be a top rider.

Chris - Not a real fan of his when he signed, but was delighted how he improved and showed what a good gater he is, blocking top riders and giving his partner more chance of the race win. Dedicated team man, and can be our secret weapon on many tracks. Won't assume Lewis's role of last year, but will score consistently if he doesn't fall off trying too hard.

Lewis R - Watched his introduction in the NL, and I think he got something like 15 in his first meeting. Ex Crosser, follows the same career path as Kerr and Richie, and it will be interesting to watch his progress, if he takes to Brough quickly. One to watch this year.

Overall a balanced team with experience, leadership, promise and the threat of some real decent racing. Will be an interesting team both home and away, with different riders taking on the no 1 role in successive meetings. Could do well in the league.

Richie - Wish you well in your pursuit of greater things. Nice to see it, thanks for your time with us, and best wishes in the future.

Steve - Thought you would be back, but pleased you turned your form around in the later part of the season. Wish you well, and you would be very welcome back sometime.

Andrew - Unlucky to not get a place, but i think his form at the back end of the season might have gone against him. He is certainly no 'one track' pony and I hope he does well wherever he has gone.

Be interesting to see what happens to Robert Lambert and to where he goes.

I see Lewis R and Lewis K are in the list of riders as EL reserves. Be interesting to see if Kings Lynn pick both given they would lose both of them if we were riding?

Is that the case---hasnt it been said that the club that owns them gets first choice--if so--- should there be a fixture class---Lynn get first call???

Looks like a really good Team IF Riders fulfill their potential. For me Ludvig Lindgren is the absolute key. IF he can add some consistency to his undoubted ability, both he and the Team will do well.

If not - well we must wait and see.

Chuffed to bits with this team and congratulations to the promotion for:

  • another year of speedway to look forward to in 2014
  • keeping the nucleus of last years team together which is a great advantage and which may not have been easy to achieve
  • making an early announcement which removes the anxiety every time you see another team snap up good available riders

The absence of an out and out number 1 to compete with the likes of Doyle and Cook might be seen as a disadvantage particulalry in 13 and 15 and also with the daft TR rule which I guess is still with us. However I reckon Ludvig can beat anyone on his day, young Rosen is an exciting prospect and I am sure he will be very competitive, and Lewi Kerr showed that he can live with the top riders and could now be ready to beat them with last year under his belt.

Can't see many beating us at Brough and if we can better our away performances where we managed to throw key points away last year, we should in theory be up for another top 3 finish.

Pity about Andrew Tully. Some might say he let us down at the end of last season, but as I recall he was flying just before he seriously wrecked his number 1 bike in laying down to avoid injury to another rider. I guess the expense of getting his equipment back together again may well have contributed to his poor (by his standards) performances at the end, particulalry the disappointing defeat at Redcar.

Anyway, all the best to the team and hope Ludvig hasn't been downhearted by any criticism on this forum. I think any negatives have been expressed because we know how fast he can be, but seems to take a while sometimes to get going in a meeting. If he's number 1, that might provide the incentive to dial in much more quickly.

How can anyone say this team is not a good one. We may not have what I wanted ( a 10 point heat leader) but all of them did well last year and more importantly 6 of them were happy to come back next year.

I hope Robbo and C Henry get over the injuries and just do again what they were doing before their falls.

Anton looks as if he will score points anywhere. He is a fraction of a second too slow from the tapes IMO and if he improves his gating just a little he will have a good chance to become our number 1.

Ludvig Is great to watch but sometimes he is rubbish too. I think he and his countryman Anton the Rocket Rosen may be fighting it out for the number 1 slot

Lewi Kerr is an exceptional talent. He should end up a heat leader in 2014. His average 6.09 will be improved on in 2014 but I cannot say by how much. Lewi needs to learn an outside line when he is trying to overtake, it is his only weakness imo

Chris Schramm is back and I am pleased. I think he is great to watch, hopefully Scrammbo will up his game in 2014

Lewis Rose ????? It would be great if the new Lewis could hit the ground running in March next year and fill his boots with points. We need a high scoring reserve and if Schrammbo cannot do it maybe Rose will

Hard to judge the strength of this team until others declare but fingers crossed that they finish bottom of the pile! :)

They won't - unless catastrophic injuries take their toll.

So the team for next year is

1. Ludvig Lindgren 7.28

2. Anton Rosen 7.00

3. Stuart Robson 7.20

4. Lewis Kerr 6.09

5. Christian Henry 7.07

6. Chris Schramm 3.52

7. Lewis Rose 3.00

It's a good team but I'm just wondering with 1.34 points still left over could we have spent the a bit more.

For example instead of Ludvig Lindgren we could have had an 8.62 rider.

Or a 4.86 rider instead of schramm to get a more established reserve.

But i am very happy about the team we have and im not going to complain about it.

Bit underwhelmed tbh, no big hitter and suspect at reserve...They obviously know what they are doing.... Hopefully Rosen can fill Richies boots and robbo, Henry and Rose can make successful comebacks from injury.... Also Ludvig might get some consistency if he's not riding in EL... And so many matches.

Got to be honest I think there are too many question marks with this team - may be wrong but doesn't fill me with confidence at all.
