Newcastle Diamonds 2014

Recommended Posts

Great attendance at last nights Diamonds Dinner Dance. I was told the numbers were up early doors, and so it proved with more tables than previous years.

Every rider in attendance including Anton and Luddi, who had both flown is specially, which was great to see.

As others have said, Lewis deservedly won the Rider of the season on the voting of those present, and the Supporters Club made a presentation to the most unusual incident in the year to Chris Scramm for his hairy bouncing off the second bend fence before grass tracking across the centre green and looking at meeting the other three riders coming around the forth bend, head on. Shades of Davey Meldrum many years ago, but Chris's was accidental.:nono:

GRTMedia, or Bob Tasker, won the well coveted Lord Mayor's Award for great contribution to Newcastle Speedway during the year for is insistence, or persistence, in getting great coverage on local TV news bulletins.

Good responses from all the riders who all genuinely expressed their pleasure at riding for Newcastle during the year and would like to return. Richie then advised that he was unlikely to be back except for special meetings and open meetings. He wants to try out Poland on Sundays and, as others have said, he gave us great excitement with his progress over the three years and we are pleased that he is showing ambition seeking bigger pastures abroad to further his career. Bit of a damper but fully understood and supported by all. Most of us had bought he would be going full-time EL anyway, but Poland is one step further on from that.

As most will remember, the Supporters Club presented a cheque a few weeks ago of £2000 for the Air Fence Fund from our very successful Grand Draw in August. Well last night, unannounced, we advised that we had raised another £2000 from the proceeds of the Auction, held after our last meeting. Following from that, we had a special auction for a signed Cardiff race bib signed by the new British World Champion, Tai Woffinden, and that raised another £125 from a delighted bid winner. The fence has now been ordered, but the appeal will still continue to pay for the associated costs of the running and maintaining the air fence.

After the serious business was done, the dancing and networking started, with both our Swedes showing their skills off with some wild unscripted and uncoordinated acrobatics.

A canny night was had by all.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Ricky wells up here next season.

He's made enough hints at it, but then so did Kenneth Hanson.

I agree with ruff and chewy, that a balanced team with a lot of 7 pointers is the way to go, as really there are only about 4 top number 1's in Cook, Doyle, Barker and Richie and who is to say they won't be riding in the EL next year and possibly in other countries. Someone like Doyle is going to eat a lot of points up out of the proposed 42.5 limit.

yeah, seems to go well up here, 'whichever' team he's with ;-)

Sad to hear that Richie is thinking about leaving but it is all what is important to really improve his career. I'd say good luck to him but hope you come back to Brough Park to see your brother at number 1 in the future :t:

Also very happy that Lewis got Diamond of the year, well deserved, he has improved massively this year and i hope he thinks about coming back next year to really cement himself in the PL.

I think this team has plenty of depth and a bit of youth guided by the experienced Robbo, Also i would place my bets on this team winning the PL fours :)

1. Rene Bach 7.85

2. Lewis Kerr 6.09

3. Stuart Robson 7.20

4. Anton Rosen 7.00

5. Ricky Wells 7.81

6. Steve Worrall 3.00

7. Robert Lambert 3.00

41.95

Great to hear about Ricky waking up, i'm so much happier now knowing that he is making so much process in his recovery :D

Richie cant ride PL if he goes to poland, (some stupid rule)

Rene is coming back to Newcastle, I have decided this :approve:

does this rule regarding not being able to ride in PL if you ride in poland apply to all riders seeing as David Bellego has also signed for a polish team.

All riders i think. If Bellego just signed in Poland he wont be able to ride in the PL next seasonn (i think)

What rule? Some PL riders rode in Poland this season, Olly Allen, Doyley, Claus vissing etc

Actually thinking about it i think it is polish riders who ride in poland are not allowed, a british or australian or anyone else is allowed to ride in britain if they ride in poland, sorry

Think the point has been missed.

Ritchie is riding Prem and Elite league next year if the two leagues still exist.

He will not be riding for a weekend track which will give him some opportunities to do open meetings on the continent and get himself noticed.

So the only difference at the moment from this season is that it rules out Newcastle as his prem league team.

Right thought process and best wishes on the next chapter in his career.

Presumably if Newcastle were to change their racenight back to a Monday then Richie could stay with the Diamonds and race abroad on Sundays

One rider's availability is not enough to change race night for, it's a big upheaval for fans and not worth it.

The last few seasons Newcastle have put very handy sides together and they will do next season again I'm sure.

As for all the suggestions of Robert Lambert, I'm sure the lad won't give up his continental commitments to sign for a Sunday PL team. I would have liked to see him at Rye House and it did look like it could be a real possibility for a while but I can't even see that as we are a Saturday night track. As a young Brit with a big future I hope he does end up in the PL somewhere, stepping straight to the Elite a'la Bridger isn't a good move.

he'd maybe drive past Sheffield to get to Scunny, (depending on route),,, and would most probably drive past Belle Vue to get to either,,, that's if he still resides at St.Helens,,, a dunno,,, maybe he's got himself a little pad somewhere :-)
