ruffdiamond
So are you saying that those who have paid their money for the longest should be put out to grass - and - not have an opinion. no, I did'nt say that... I would like to see how many Tracks would survive relying on the 'younger generation'. probably not many, like I did say, speedway is supported by the 'mainly' older generation... Your final sentence is just insulting. sorry,,, if it get's your gripe,,, but it is only my opinion, just like you have yours, (which may insult others),,,
Tsunami
Message to all helpers who put the sheets down at Brough. Sheeting starts at 3.00pm on Sunday and all Sundays when the training school is not on. When the training restarts in mid May, the start for the sheeters is 10.30am. If anybody else could come along and help, they would be very welcomed as numbers are currently very low.

Not sure about away tracks though, so it might be best to contact the track you intend visiting beforehand to make sure.

Tsunami
thanks for that, :-) Agree with what Abbott has said as there are dogs regularly at Brough. (not going to enlarge on that one ). One would imagine that they must be on a leash, or small enough to be carried, and kept away from doggy areas such as their track.

How is the track looking "Tsunami ? i have only been to Brough twice the last time in the BL year and the track was superb.I always thought Brough looked a tough track to master anyway how do you think Rosen will do? he could have a big year i feel. TheScotsman
Sorry, but this whole anti team kevlars topic is symptomatic of what is wrong with our sport. Too many of our fans lark back to to halconey days instead of realising that this sport must and I repeat must move forward or die. The modern generation embrace a team ethic rightly or wrongly based on 'the strip' and to ignore this is stupidity. Thankfully the Diamonds management realise the marketing potential of this and long may it continue. Just to add my tuppence worth (from the days when two pence was worth tuppence and not like nowadays), I don't think that the "modern generation" really do embrace a team ethic. I think it's every man for themselves nowadays. Personally I prefer individual racing colours ahead of the team suits so that you can recognise the riders better. This is particularly important at the likes of Ippo, where the lighting is so bl**dy awful, and there's a stock car track between you and the speedway, that you can hardly make out any of the suits let alone the helmet colouirs and where the racing numbers are so small that you can only see them when they pass in front of you. Racing styles are now much more similar than they were in the olden days so again there is less chance of recognising individuals from that. The sport needs characters, not clones. That's what gets people interested. There are so few of them around nowadays. Thank heavens the Fish is in the PL again!! Why did Cookie get grief last year? Because he was so bl**dy good and dared to have day-glo wheels!! Let's have more characters in individual racing gear!!
Tsunami
How is the track looking "Tsunami ? i have only been to Brough twice the last time in the BL year and the track was superb.I always thought Brough looked a tough track to master anyway how do you think Rosen will do? he could have a big year i feel. The track is looking brilliant and certainly enhanced with the air fence. It gives the look of an arena, especially with the tidying up and chamfering of the grass edge which has also been moved in about 2 foot. Looking forward to our dark evening meetings as I think it is a sport made for lights. With long straights and tight bends it is a tricky track to ride, especially for someone brought up on say a Swindon/Sheffield type of track. I remember Robbie Kessler the first time he rode at Brough, just went straight on, and had to go right around the outside, while everyone else had rode it properly, and by this time were halfway down the straight ahead of him. He soon learned to make an earlier turn and returned a 15 max on one of his subsequent visits. Power isn't everything. Mauger always attributed Brough as an important part of his speedway education. He had been used to OZ tracks, but always said that "if you can ride Brough, you can ride anywhere". No surprise that several Kiwis have started at Brough on Ivan's advice. Anton Rosen is like when Ole came to Newcastle in the mid 60's. Nothing flash or out of control, just a rider learning all the time with solid performances everywhere he went. Pleased he is one short of a qualifying average , as he has stayed with us this season still on an assessed 7 point average. He will be number one in the team when the first averages come into force. He's a classy performer and by the looks of him when he has returned this year, he has returned a more open and happier chappy. He of course has Ludde to friend him, and it is no wonder he is happy having someone who speaks the same language in the pits and at home. He will be a top rider in the PL by the end of the year.
