Newcastle Diamonds 2014

Recommended Posts

Well, it rained and didn't stop till about 11.30am. Good turnout considering the weather, and had more than enough to do most of the posts. Only 4 posts to move next week, and then concreting all 18 in one go. With the rain there was no painting done, as it would not have dried so will push on with that next week. Once again our Ludde flew back in to help, along with Georgie. Thanks to all for coming.

Darryl removed the last of the surplus shale off the 3rd and 4th bends, and cleared the grass area behind where the riders stand for the parade. The big blade is planned to go on next week, so things are going well with still a number of cosmetic items to attend to.

See ya all next Sunday at 9.30am.

Hi Dave, everyone involved deserves a pat on the back. It has to be an advantage that Darryl is a builder. Hey enjoy yourself with the cosmetics items :t:

So when the practise comes around we will be treated to a few changes out on the track, will the air fence be in place for the press/practise day?

Oh Yes. It is arriving in less than 2 weeks, and i would image we will need to erect it shortly afterwards to identify any problems, or the need for any fence adjustments.

We are getting there.

Back to the track tomorrow staring at 9.30am. Don't think we can paint as it won't dry at the moment. Only 4 more posts to move and then concreting in all 16, and that's the fence done after a little bit if tidying up.

Weather not great but we thought that last week and we got so much done then.

The air fence arrived a week too early on Thursday, and it is stored off site till we are ready to bring it to Brough.

Hope to see you all there starting at 9.30am as usual.

Well, that was a shift and a half to get all the post work done, even though it meant working through the cold and the rain and blustery sleet all the time.

Many thanks to everyone who turned and got the job done. Just need to concrete all 16 posts next week, and the fence is just about done apart from a few cosmetic jobs.

It was a fantastic effort and I really though we would not even start, never mind finish the job.

Next week onto concreting, and starting to fasten the kick boards behind where the air fence will be. Painting squad to recommence kick board painting if the weather allows.

Work to start as normal at 9.30am, but in my absence Jackie Campbell will be coordinating everything.

If you think there is any doubts, say due to the weather, just give her a ring to find out.

See you all when I get back.

EDIT Forgot to mention that our Luscious Swede, Ludde, having just flown in for the event, and minder Georgie, were once again in attendance and getting involved in the hard graft. Georgie even got to drive the enormous 3 ton bucket thingy.

Do I take it, then, that despite all that squawking about tactical rides and not going again I will have the dubious pleasure of your company at Brough this coming season, all being well ?

I admitted that a while ago HT. :)

The lure of the Racing proved to be too much. I realise I am going to have to chill out over the bloody Tactical Ride - for Health reasons if nothing else.

So - YES - I suppose you are going to have to put up with me again at Brough. :)

I must stress (perhaps wrong word there) that I STILL feel exactly the same about all of the silly Rules that seem to bedevil our Sport.

I will be there to watch the Racing - the rest (Rules) can go to hell.

My last words - I hope - on the Tactical Ride unless commenting on a particular incident in a Meeting on here. :)

Looking forward to seeing you my friend. B)

Good plan.

I just hope that, if (and let's hope it doesn't happen) a team are 10 down, use a tac ride, and go on to beat the Diamonds (yes, I know it's highly unlikely! :P ), you won't come on the Forum, jumping up and down and complain about it (despite what you say in the last part of your post!!!) :P:lol:

The other Likely Lad told me that one years ago and its as bang on now as it was then.

First meetings for me will (all being well) be the Workington/Newcastle meetings over the weekend 22/23 March so I'll see you then.

Concrete Steps

I believe the steps have still not been done and are unlikely to be back in use by the time we all flood into the stadium. The stadium landlords are millionaires or maybe billionaires shame on them for failing their tenants Newcastle Speedway we should picket the place on dog nights

Somewhere earlier on this Thread (I think) Dave has said that work is planned to start soon. :t:

Aww - don't tell me Mike Cashley owns Brough as well!!

So much for a plan being in place when last season ended

Lack of respect landlord for your tenant - that might come back and bite you one day

I undersand a statement is to be made on our website about the terracing. I don't want to announce the club's news, it would not be right, but I think it will be good news for you.

That is the permanent background that most people find under a Landlord of a stadium. Doggie people, unless they are hard betting people needed outside access to the outside bookies, don't go on the terraces, as they are behind glass and usually having a meal with their drinks. So it really only affects, badly as well, the speedway supporter who can't use the steps, which provide the only covered accommodation in the stadium. If the weather is looking iffy from rain, you can bet some fans will stay at home rather than risk getting a soaking at Brough. And don't think there is any chance of a rent holiday or reduction either.:nono:
