Newcastle Diamonds 2014

Recommended Posts

I've no doubt we will have one, but in view if the start of the season being late in March, I would have thought it would be late Feb/early March.

This season is starting a week earlier than last season! Last year the Race Night was on 31st Jan.

So. It hasn't always been a fixed week.

A great start today with a brilliant turnout. Due to the cold, I thought it was probably better to get things sorted out in readiness of starting work, but was persuaded by you that you wanted to start straightaway and get it all started. A great help which will greatly help us get all the work done on time. Great to see a rider turn up and work for the full session like everyone else, accompanied by his minder Georgie Bond. Step forward Ludde, you are a star. :P

Thinking of the 3 Degrees today, i beg to ask "when will I see you again". Hopefully next week same place, same time, 9.30am. :D

Well done to everyone who turned out last Sunday. Was there any sign of the stadium owners having started work on the terraces, which I think is due to start sometime this month?

Roomour I heard the other day (don't know if its true) ithe start date has been put back to early Feb, which would make me think it will cut accross more of the speedway season again! :nono::mad:

Correct. That is what I was told on Sunday. The expectations are that it will be done in sections. Instead of pours of concrete at Brough for the new steps, I hear that they are being made offsite in sections, and will be laid by crane. That will mean a dry solution, and should shorten the time it takes to replace the steps.

Thanks for the update Dave. :t:

Let's hope that they are ready for the start of the Season or very shortly afterwards.

I heard they will not be finished by the start of the season, but the hope is that the finished steps will be released section by section. Question on Sunday is how are they going to get the sections of steps into the terraced area.

All set for tomorrow. Light rain early hours but clearing early and there might even be a surprise visit of that guest called the SUN. Said to be about 7 degree C all day, but I think you might still need ya vest on.

See ya then.

He would certainly be a good asset, instead of being a guest.

Bring a shovel with you tomorrow Ian :D

Is there a specific anouncement for the order of the team or will we find out on the first meeting? (can't really remember from the previous years and i've only been going since 2007)

Probably be discussed with all team members in the get together at the Practice day. They usually have a meal together, sometime over the weekend.

Well, it rained and didn't stop till about 11.30am. Good turnout considering the weather, and had more than enough to do most of the posts. Only 4 posts to move next week, and then concreting all 18 in one go. With the rain there was no painting done, as it would not have dried so will push on with that next week. Once again our Ludde flew back in to help, along with Georgie. Thanks to all for coming.

Darryl removed the last of the surplus shale off the 3rd and 4th bends, and cleared the grass area behind where the riders stand for the parade. The big blade is planned to go on next week, so things are going well with still a number of cosmetic items to attend to.

See ya all next Sunday at 9.30am.
