Berwick V Newcastle Sat 31st August Tyne/tweed Trophy

I think the current Promotion should adopt the Peter Waite School of Optimism.

Every year our illustrious former leader would hail "We're going to win the league!", and everyone thought "No chance!"

Now we have a promotion who are a bit more understated, we expect a league win every season, at the very least!

Still, very entertaining some of the comments on here :)

The current Promotion may be understated but perhaps they need to take a leaf out of Peters book instead of listening to riders excuses for underperforming.

We did achieve good league finishes under Mr Waite then again. If I was in charge and signed some Phillipino riders on the cheap your the type of bloke that would come on here and support me, even though I might be a complete lettuce. Then again Scott I know as you told me you get a kick out of winding ppl up and talking rubbishe

Correct though theres been times when the promotion give excuses on behalf of the riders.Peter had many faults taking feebile excuses from his riders wasnt one of them.

Dont know how the Team manager can put up with Barrett winning Heat 2 every week then doing virtually nothing for the rest of the meeting.Imo off he doesn't. Gate he is not interested because he realises how hard it is to pass round Shielfield I would rather see Carr last but giving everything. To think that Complin,Clews and Makovsky had their critics but at least they gave 100% entertainment value every race unlike the present incumbents. Its not a pat on the back that some riders need its a kick up the ar*se.

He seems to have been a huge disappointment! I see on latest BSPA averages his average is under 4 so no progress at all in 2013 The lack of re signing Dyer was the catalyst though.

Very easily brushed aside in tight situations IMO.dont rate him.Excellent at Ashfeild where if he gates its easy to stay in front.

When i have seen Berwick on sky and the U21s ( ect) it looks like a terrific racetrack. The promotion there really seem to have done a brilliant job they promote very well the same with Workington and Newcastle. But i have heard on the forum that sometimes it is hard to pass why is that?i watched the Newcastle match again.Couldnt they cut off more of the football pitch on bends 3 and 4 so it is not so narrow when you come off the banking?.Saying that the races i have seen on the Internet i have enjoyed reminds me of the SHAY if they could get the track more consistent this track would have to be in contention for more big events surely.

Not allowed to take anything off the pitch, the track would be awesome if entrance and exits to the bends could be widened but sadly won't happen.

Thanks for that Fromafar' is that because of the expense or inconvenience? if so such a shame really!

Football club won't allow it.Been an bone of contention for a few seasons, which is a pity .Not sure if size of pitch for league standards is the issue. To the regular fans it seems that it would not take a lot of the pitch to alter the entrance and exits to the bends, but its not going to happen unless there is a change of heart somewhere. It is a beautiful looking pitch and I can see where the Football Club are coming from. I enjoy my trips up to Shielfield from Newcastle and the fourth bend is awesome. Someone with the guts to pass on the outside there will always get a medal from me. yes if the footie pitch wasn't there the track shape could be improved but the rangers are unlikely to agree to alterations to their pitch

The actual shape of Shielfield has altered little since speedway returned there, banking on turns three and four being the biggest. In that time we have had some great speedway with passing aplenty so the idea of the track being hard to pass on isnt quite true. Also the Under-21 meeting a few weeks ago proved that perfectly.

Nothing to do with averages for next year i presume

Averages will come into it,but Id rather have riders with a bit of ambition and a bit of fire in their bellies.

And if your suggesting certain riders are manipulating their averages to secure a team place next year then they`ve been doing it since March in some cases.

Face it one or two just arent up to the job.

Bike technology is the culprit that passing has declined look at the track record when speedway returned to Shielfield.Anybody watching Seb and the U/21 guys realise that. How do you pass a PL heat leader these days if he makes the Gate.My answer is seldom.

So he didnt stand for under performing riders, not a bad thing.

He was ruthless.

Personally, I think he is one of the best team managers I have ever seen: very under-rated at the time, and - my goodness - could he not half work the system.

No disrespect to Peter, but I do think the current promotion have taken things to a different level.

I do also suspect that there might need to be a bit more backside kicking in the pits next season.

Why does Micky Dyer keep being mentioned? He is an Edinburgh asset, and Berwick would always be waiting in line to see if they could approach him.

In recent years, efforts to build up a club asset-base have been thwarted by serious injury to Brenton Barnfield - and career-ending injury to Adrian Rymel -- while Facundo Albin had to be passed on to become a Sheffield asset after Seb Alden walked.

Berwick have a 20-year-old asset in Bellego who will go far, and a 17-year-old asset in Liam Carr, who is now beginning to show why he will be in next season's starting seven.

Non-assets such as Aspegren and Starke will ride where their 'owners' tell them to.

In conclusion, does any Berwick follower really want to see Peter Waite back in charge?

he was never going to go back to Edinburgh in a million years once deek was named in their team.

Aspegren and starke will ride where they want, if they get the offers...the days of clubs dictating are long gone.
