Berwick V Newcastle Sat 31st August Tyne/tweed Trophy

Here come the Diamonds minus the injured Stuart Robson and with a new guy in the side, Anton Rosen, whom I think might like Berwick's big fast track.

George English has been looking to bring in a replacement for Stuart rather than use R/R for the rest of the season so if he is successful in bringing in another rider The Berwick fans will have a lot of writing to do on Saturday night.

If we are bringing a new rider in to replace Robbo, it has to be all done and dusted before the end of today.

Newcastle have already won a number of trophies this season, and may go on to win more,so you`d think it only sporting that Berwick win this trophy, love thy neighbour and all that. Also, think of our trophy cleaning lady, she will have to seek other employment over the winter as our trophy cabinet isnt excatly brimming at the minute.

Its isnt in the Berwick fixture list either, just down as tba.

Thanks for that seems strange though even at the time of year it is being run to me, as there are not many spare dates to be used if we get a few rain offs.

I had thought they may of ran a double header at Newcastle on Sunday as they were already there in the league, but it doesn't appear they are doing that either hmm........ Watch this space then I guess.

Run a double-header (which always lose the club money) for a meaningless fixture..... Yeah, that'll make sence....

As stated above it was only that way of thinking as both teams were there on the night & with possibly very few dates to go seemed to me like a possible option with no mention of a date in the fixtures (yet) and please remember as it stands we are running back to back nights in a couple of weeks.

Back to back Premier League meetings, which have to be completed before the deadline for the Play-offs and therefore a damn sight more important than, what is in effect, a meaningless challenge match, with a trophy 'stuck on to it'.

Well I agree that the Tyne Tweed trophy is not that important compared to league matches etc. I am amazed that it has taken until now to mention it. It has always been a season opener sort of affair. So why was it not run earlier? I don't particularly want to pay to see this match at Brough but as I have a season ticket I will come along and support it anyway. In future I hope this sort on fixture will happen in march/april.

On Sunday last we had a SRBF collection. Young Anton was in my part of the crowd collecting cash. He signed autographs and posed for pics for mobile phones etc. I hope he builds on success with our 2 matches against Workington, 3 heat wins will do for me. Go on kidda you should be in the 2014 diamonds team

the Tyne Tweed Trophy normally is at start of season but was replaced by Ian Thomas Trophy where Newcastle raced against Workington.

I didn't know that. Ian Thomas is/was a VIP at Workington and Newcastle So the TT Trophy still has to be accommodated at Brough and SHOULDN'T be in the playoffs section of the season we could have an injury against Berwick that will jeopardise our play off matches.

I agree that the league IS and SHOULD take prioity but it is still a fixture that needs to be fourfilled and if it is such a meaningless fixture why should anybody turn up?

The fact of the matter IMO is they are or should be ALL meaningfull :o .

It doesn't need to be fullfilled at all. If there is a blank date then run it, if not, bin it. What I meant by it being 'meaningless' is that it is, in context of the season as there are official fixtures need running. The Tyne/Tweed Trophy is an 'unofficial' fixture. Either run it at the start of the season, or, when a date is available, or at the end of the season.

I don't remember people losing much sleep over the Tyne/Tees Trophy being binned a few years back. Much the same here IMO.

Or Newcastle could come up to Berwick on saturday, win, which should give them a condidence boost ahead of their last remaining fixtures.I understand the reservation from some Newcastle fans,a few seasons ago Berwick went into the Young Shield meetings as the form team,a couple of challenge meetings against Redcar & Edinburgh if I remember correctly saw the team desimated by injuries.

Best to get the League and Cup Meetings out of the way first - if time allows then the Tyne/Tweed Trophy could be run at the very end of the Season.

It's not 'meaningless', it's a good excuse to go up to Berwick and enjoy their pies and racing on their nice track,,, unlike, I'm sure there will be some 'meaningless' play off fixtures !!!

Anyway, looks R/R for Robbo now, ( will miss his efforts, if he ain't to be back), but looking at the averages,,, does it mean that both Tully and Ludo can take one ov his rides each, both being on 7.39 (well, from Sunday),,, or will they just spin for it, or see who's doing better ??? ,,, so,'boffins' out there, whats the rules on this and has it ever happened before ?

Club have to declare who is the higher of the two in the averages, unless they go down to the next decimal (for example if they were 7.392 and 7.391, as I don't know what the next decimals are, I'm using these as examples).
