Potential tanking on the cards tonight... Not a very happy hunting ground for us at the OTA and with ex-Rebel missing it's a backs to the wall job for the Monarchs against a very much in-form Rebels at home.

Much as I'd love to agree with you, I fear you're being way too pessimistic. The Monarch's record at the OTA is actually quite good, and although r/r for Vissing may weaken them slightly, if Fricke and Tabaka ride as they did in the League encounter, Claus's absence may not be too damaging. And with Sneddon likely to dominate at reserve, I can only see another very close encounter. Any lead over 6 will be a bonus for the Rebels.

A lot of people are expecting the same performance as the league meeting... However the Rebels are in much more dominant form around the OTA with Morris and Davies in particular the two that have upped their game significantly since then...

Pessimistic maybe, but if we can hit 40pts, we may still be in the tie - I don't however see us hitting 40.

Rebels lost by 8 points away to Monarchs when Cook below his usual best in a couple of races, so Rebels need to take at least 12 point lead to Armadale on Friday. Fricke scored well on his last visit to Oak Tree but he was at reserve then, and is now at number 2 and Ben Morley unlikely to score, and the absence of Vissing certainly gives the Rebels an advantage. Fortunately Cook cannot take an R/R, with Piper, Fricke, Tabaka and Sneddon having that privilege. Rebels need to get off to a flying start, something they haven't done in a few recent matches. I think Rebels should win this as for some unknown reason the better the opposition the better they perform, yet struggle against lowly clubs like Glasgow and Plymouth, a real enigma. I hope Gary May has a word with the ref to keep an eye on Cook moving at the start.

Should be another close one Vissing only scored 5 when there earlier in the season so R/R should get around the same or hopefully more Morley is probalby not going to score but either did Bates the last time.

As long as we keep it within a 10 point deficit, we should be able to pull it back in the second leg.

A real backs to the wall performance required by the monarchs we know they can do it but will be tough. All will have to be at their best including the manager as r/r at no 5 will leave us weak in a couple of races. I believe we can keep it tight and get our customary 44 points, rebels by 2 and another belted on friday

He was pulled up for the same thing at Swindon last week Oldtimer. Not sure why he feels the need to do it as he is a naturally gifted 'gater'.

Well he did it, and reeled Josh in a good'un to hitting the tapes.

In short that was immense tonight, a proper cup tie that had everything - good racing, crashes, exclusions, uproar, heroes, villains and a 5-1 to finish the match off and set it up for a corker on Friday. You Monarchs fans should be in for a treat.

WOW, what a cracking match this was, it had everything, great ride by Alex in heat 9 to hold up Tabaka and let Nick through, great ride by Lambert to win heat 12, Stefan the unluckiest man of the match with a puncture, then being knocked off, and pushing his bike home for a point. Dubious decisions by the ref ,Nick disqualified a real howler and in heat 14 Stefan the meat in a sandwich when knocked off and should never have been all riders back, Cook moving at the start in heat 11 and forcing Josh into the tapes, no ref warning.. A fantastic heat 15, have never heard the crowd so vocal. Also music much better tonight and interviews louder so you could actually hear what was said over the tractor grading. All riders from both teams giving everything, a real classic and great entertainment. Would like to know who got rider of the night as my mate had to go so did not visit club house after match. I would have given it to Stefan. Lets hope we lose by 8 points on Friday then we can do it all over again!

Quite an achievement for the depleted, injury hit, Monarchs to restrict the rampaging Rebels to an 8 pt lead.

Given that Somerset only lost by 8 pts at the Dale to a full strength Monarchs a fortnight ago, the Rebels will probably still be favourites to progress as it will be a tall order for r/r for Vissing and a NL guest for Bates, to match the 12 point scored in that league match.

I doubt Garry May thought so, as he sacked Stefan after the meeting!

Lambert got sacked before the meeting.

Pretty self-explanatory isn't it, Najjer?

Not really - Stefan has been a revelation as far as I'm concerned so struggle to see how it can be performance related.

I can only presume the numbers game has struck again, which now starts the rumours mill as to who is coming in with two exiting, allegedly.

Don't be silly, nothing is self explanatory to Naijer!!! Not sure the Referee was on your side tonight, but you sure needed that 5-1 in the last...

Steve Boxall is as popular on the terraces at Somerset as what you are.
