Brummie Boy
I would like a league featuring the best available riders who actually want to and can commit to the league, their club and fans -that's every meeting. GP and foreign riders are welcome but not those who try only when then want to and / or either miss meetings or go through the motions sometimes. The riders who use the league purely to fund their GP program or supplement income are not welcome anymore. I would like a league that has a full fixture list of a home match every week unless you are away. That means we choose the schedule and amount of meetings our fans and sponsors want and then riders can either take or leave it, but hopefully take it. I want a league without double up riders so fans can plan to go to away matches to see THEIR riders, not 4 and 3 guests. I would like a league that promotes British talent but also opens the door to loyal foreigners who are based in the UK (Aussies and Yanks at the top) and put the UK first. I would like to see a limit on riders not based In the UK, as flights and hotels add costs on top of points money. I would like to see a league where fair play prevails and the few don't try to find rules loopholes to gain advantage. I want a league tha has a five year blueprint so that it doesn't need life support every November. I want a league that has rule to benefit all that don't change on a whim when they don't suit certain teams. I want a league big enough to go once around or if 10 teams or less, full set of A and B fixtures. I want a league with a cup competition that is not optional. I want to see 7 man teams most meetings not 6. Sounds to me like a league that sits somewhere between the Premier and National League. How many are really going to vote to water the Elite League down to that level?

speedibee
The Elite can afford them and we need the likes of Jepsen Jensen and Nicki Pedersen back in British speedway. Raise the points limit to 50 and watch the crowds fly in. Fly In from where ? the planet you live on ?
skthecat
Speedibee is right in a sense, reducing the points limit every year does water the sport (not keen on the word product) down as that's all that can happen with that scenario. Your team wins league and has a finishing average of say 46 and it has then to lose a rider or two to get it down to 42.5 or whatever, no wonder some riders try to massage their average down towards the end of the season!! Of course they want to stay as part of a winning team!!! Do we actually know what would happen if the points limit was left as it was at the end of the season what actually would happen? Surely if that was the case, the weaker teams would have to strengthen to compete? So team "The Midtable Sitters" sign a genuine quality rider, say "Mr Can winagp" would that not pay for itself with a bigger gate? More wins? So even bigger gate? Or do promotors not want success, just to plod mid table? Obviously race nights are an issue, but that can be overcome, can't it??

skthecat
Can the sport survive though if every year the league is contrived and reduced in its quality as it continues to run with half the teams surviving on life support so as not to lose a team or two? Surely, there will come a tipping point where the top division would become so watered down it becomes unsustainable and disappears all together and we just end up with one average league, with average riders and become so dissattached from top echelon of the sport that eventually if becomes extinct as a professional sport in the UK? Shouldn't we be trying to push the sport in the upwards direction? Not continually down sizing the sport, yet expecting the paying public to pay top dollar to support it?
fish keeper
Can not keep watering the league down keep the 42.5 it works the league as been a lot closer this season with no team running away with it.

Unless you're Poole needing a result of course, the amount of water is not a factor then.
Pirates Of Poole
Having just read Mads comments in the KL press I have to agree with all he says. He talks about the final meeting on Wednesday at KL not knowing what will happen after that! He questions why the promoters have to wait until November to sit round a table. SteveEvans
Sounds to me like a league that sits somewhere between the Premier and National League. How many are really going to vote to water the Elite League down to that level? The likes of Tai, Harris, Nicholls, etc would be prospects for such a league and you might be surprised with the other top line riders who are on board. Most every Aussie would be down for this - even Chris and Darcy live local to Poole so that's not impossible. All I am saying is put riders who want to ride the league first - how can you sell races to your fans when you top rider doesn't seem into it sometimes? Note there are exceptions to any rule and sometimes fixtures clash. Maybe each rider can be granted 2 meetings per year when they are missing based off of a fixture clash where a guest, not 3 pointer can replace? This is not a new concept, back in the 80s the Americans had to do a week at home each season and at Wolves we'd get Shooey in for Sam. Folks can negative bash my ideas all they like but essentially they are not looking at workable solutions and watching the sport go down the plughole and doing nothing as the last drop of water goes down the sink. In all honesty I will be very surprised if Poole have Ward or Holder next year in whatever form the domestic league(s) take(s)!! As disappointed as I and others will be, it won't stop me going to Poole every week - as long as I'm paying a bit less for the privilege!!
orion
One day someone will come up with a idea that bring more fans in than less ..no doubt another year of cutting costs and making the product weaker will bring less fans in again .

Must agree with this. If my local curry house gave me smaller portions every year, less keema in my naan and worse quality chicken while raising the cost every year I might stop going there.
wealdstone
No changes other than cosmetic will happen whilst Speedway is run by the present regime. They are only interested in themselves and maintaining the status quo where the sport is run by a cartel for the benefit of a chosen few. They cannot and will not see that they are slowly driving the sport into oblivion!!!!!.

Do you not agree cost cutting has to be done? i see no other option to be honest. You are right it has got to be the priority to get new supporters in how i have no idea. But at first you have to get the finances right balance the books as best you can and go from there. No ...been doing that for years and it's never worked the finances don't work because there are less fans coming in year after the year ...there again don't always have to spend money just come up with good plans like Cricket did with the 20 -20 ...I will tell you what next years plan is.. lower standard , same prices ,less fans the same plan for the last 20 years .
