Rye House 2014

Recommended Posts

Same old rubbishe. Lower half of the table finish. Pretty much same as the last 5/6 years.

Kennett-no problem with his signing. Should be very hard to beat around Rye. Away form will depend on attitude. His commitment to the sport isn't particularly high at the moment. Lots of ability, but mentally has always fell well short.

Bunyan-meh. Doesn't offer a lot. Average will stay same or go down now he's getting on.

Boxall- lots of ability, but has the mechanical expertise of a chimp. Has he got more than one lawn mower these days? Is he still wearing Newcastle kevlars from 3 years ago? Very unprofessional.

Garrity and Nelson were no brainers.

Bowen-truly depressing, but fully expected him to return. Has been riding about 10 years in PL and is still a reserve. Is he really a silvers secret love child?

Lambert-Christ, I've never ridden a speedway bike in my life but would still look more comfortable round Rye than him. He was also crap on big tracks. Pointless and depressive signing.

I would have gone with Kennett, Mellgren, Aspgren, Garrity, Nelson, Morley and one of the top NL 3 pointers from last season. Replace one of the reserves when Kennett gets his average.

This side has very little going for it and is a usual silver side from the last few years. He certainly won't be getting his lost crowd back with that. Very much done on the cheap with no foreign based riders.

That's a nice positive assessment for the 2014 season.

The only problem with these 2 posts is that for different reasons, neither Gustix or Chris are 'paying customers' to Rye House !!!

That may be the case. I cannot speak for Chris but probably like myself he is a follower of the 'world of speedway at large' and has an overall interest in speedway happenings generally rather than just a parochial view of things.

For your information, as a much younger man, I was a regular visitor to Rye House between 1954 and 1963. My concern and a reason I don't go there now is that I live beyond the accepted south London area and have no wish to be travelling home at my age so late in the evening.

Gustix, I have no problem with not attending due to age and infirmity. But other posters who comment regularly on current Rye House affairs, just appear to be totally negative and are full of bile and hatred to the current Rye House promoter.

I was in the group that disagreed with Len about the Doyle/Boxall affair but at least we voiced our opinion personally to the promoter and got told to F off personally  , I did not hide behind my computer and make snide comments. Rye House is far away from being perfect, but at least there is a team on the track that we can grumble about every season, long live Len, the silly old fool. :drink:

You must feel very special Shadders. You ever thought about getting counselling for these S&M tendencies of yours. On reflection I quite like our team bar Lambert. As long as Luke gets in the grove early and Boxall has decent machinery I cant see us losing many if any at home. Things could get even better if Len got ruthless once Eddies average finds its true level.

Well Shadders old chap, you got in with a dodgy crowd this year ))) No comfy seats in the Temp Stand, out in the open with us startline boys now.

Any you deserve to be told to F off by the management, you and Sarah only turn up for every home meeting, send updates on Twitter and speedway updates and I would think are the most regular Rye House fan at away meetings. I suppose you think that gives you the right to have an opinion on subjects that you care about ??? lol...

Agree with everything apart from the "old chap" part

As I have a spare 10 mins, let me be the first to give my opinion of the riders and how they will ride against their issued GSA's hopefully with no injuries at the start of next season;

Eddie Kennett (10.65) Highly unlikely to ride to such a high average, expect to see him ride to about 9.5 average.

Tyson Nelson ( 6.16) Hopefully he can control some of the undoubted speed and aggression he has, ave about 7.00 per meeting

Jason Bunyan ( 5.80) Steady but not spectacular anymore, expect to ride to existing average 5.80

Steve Boxall ( 5.69) With the right mindset and more maintenance to equipment has ability to ride to about 7.50

Jason Garrity ( 5.45) Barring injury, has ability to be right up there. HOPE to see him reach 7.00+ this season

Luke Bowen ( 5.12) Again injury dependant but hope he can get back to around 6.25+

Simon Lambert ( 3.00) I have concerns and unless improved from last year, will do well to stay at 3.00

Overall a team that has skill and ability, but too many riders that can be inconsistent and a bit tempremental. As I stated in a previous post I think that management and Jason B will do well to keep all riders focused on racing and not on each other when things do not go their way.

Mid table to outside chance of playoffs, but of course we still await to see the make up of the other teams in the league.

I think a season barring serious injuries would be a start Bolly.

A team designed very much to win at home and pick up some useful points away. A team that will also need the track to be prepared with plenty of grip as most are racers not gating tarts.

Eddie - if he really wants to come back should achieve a nine plus. Any more than that and I would be pleasantly surprised. If he did nt really want to come back the season could be horrible.

Nelson - a big year for the boy. Rated by almost every other track (have you noticed how many wish lists he appears in). For me between 7-8. Would nt be surprised to see him at that higher end.

JB - A case in point about how the track is prepared. Can be horribly off pace when its slick and fantastically on it when theres dirt on it. Will be helped if some of the others pick up their averages so 6 plus for me.

JG -Not too put pressure on this boy but he really has the ability to go all the way. IF this injury has nt knocked him back I really think he is looking at 8 plus. Was it ten he was averaging before his crash? Both Nelson and Jason will be helped if Eddie is a dominant number one.

Luke - I am sure he will practise all winter to be sharp for the off. With the riders above him he could get to stay at reserve for a while which will be great for us at home.

SL - Apart from carrying Eddie on such a high average Simon is for me the Achilles heel. Would have preferred Ben (assuming Robert Lambert is destined for elsewhere). At least Ben would score well at home.

So overall im not too despondent now.

Sorry forgot Stevie B. When this boy first came to Rye he had England international written all over him - possibly more. I still think he all the talent and knows the quickest way around Rye - as the times at the conference championship will testify. IF he has decent equipment then there is no ceiling to what he can achieve.
