bigeddiechek
Well, after not having a few weeks of speedway, I do actually care about this meeting. It's a unique sport and I enjoy it the vast majority of the time. I don't much care if Aspergren is riding, he has been disappointing for most of this season. Rye might just surprise a few, especially missing Starke and Kozza. I'm well and truly looking forward to my speedway mix, unlike some. The calls for silverware and results does echo a now dead Scottish football team, I wouldn't want the Bandits to burst the bank for a brief moment of glory. bigeddiechek
Don't worry Scott we wont win any silverware.... I'm not worried about it Robin, I am worried about the sustainability of the sport in the area though. I'll take keeping it open ahead of silverware. In other sports you don't see Berwick competing in the same league as Hearts/Hibs, Newcastle, or Celtic/Partick Thistle. So, for the size of the town, speedway has really punched above its weight. If Berwick are a 'minor-market club' why is there members of the Berwick promotion who come out and tell us 'Berwick have one of the biggest budgets in the league? This quote has been dangled in certain people's posts before, yet no-one seems to be able to attribute it to any of what you call "members of the promotion"...... Can you either name the promoter (there are three of them) who you claim has made such a statement or stop shirring the stit?

And before you inform me, yes I know he no longer has anything to do with it, but this was when he did.

Shadders
No Aspegren,so Hugh Skidmore comes in to guest with r/r remaining for Smith. It seems Aspegren has picked up a knee injury. Knee injury? Yeah, right. Shouldn't think the promotion are too bothered. Skidmore, like Nick Morris last year, will be the match winner. Weather in Berwick this morning is decent. No rain forecast. Looking forward to an Andersons pie & burger later. Edited September 21, 2013 by Shadders

Boobs
Phil Newton made the claim on the official Berwick website. And before you inform me, yes I know he no longer has anything to do with it, but this was when he did. Then I think the quote should be disregarded now, as Berwick's promotion have regularly and consistently reminded everyone they are in a minor market, and will not endanger the club's future by attemptiong to buy success. A policy which has rarely if ever worked at any level in speedway. To quote Phil now is akin to digging up past statements by Peter Waite or Dave Peet and setting them against the current financial times. Shadders
And a juicy kiss? Not gonna happen. Easy Bandits win The calls for silverware and results does echo a now dead Scottish football team, I wouldn't want the Bandits to burst the bank for a brief moment of glory. The Bandits have been punching above their weight for years. The 2005 season was probably the peak, last years excellent 4's win gave many false hope. Be thankful with what you have. You never know how long it's gonna last. Ask any Newport fan. Edited September 21, 2013 by Shadders
Robinh88
We are currently not punching above our weight and haven't for the last 5 years Peter Waite achieved with poorer riders on probably lesser packages. Now that tells me either these riders are being paid too much or the previous team manager had better management skills.... and no I dont mean Davew Peet

You are quite right Shadders, anyone with half a brain cell will look at the population of the area compared to the big city teams. It's incredible that the club has for over 40 years managed to - mostly - compete at the top level. I wonder if Robin and Callum recall the years following the Terry Lindon season? We are currently not punching above our weight and haven't for the last 5 years Peter Waite achieved with poorer riders on probably lesser packages. Now that tells me either these riders are being paid too much or the previous team manager had better management skills.... and no I dont mean Davew Peet The current promotion have already equalled Peter's silverware haul. Peter did, in my opinion, give us the best season on the 2000s, and in 2005 and we were robbed of the title. Some of the subsequent years were atrocious though: some really bad seasons. You need to think about what you mean by punching above our weight. Look at the leagues that the football and rugby teams are in. No disrespect to them, but speedway performs at a far higher level. You can't compare football to speedway... Nufc get 48-50k, the diamonds get about 800 I'd guess... Poor argument. Robinh88
Because they have a promotion who know the Sport inside and out. Newcastle go into every meeting with a belief they can win (thats on away tracks) At home they just pummell teams pretty much week in week out, it builds confidence a winning mentality. If Newcastle don't perform, it is rectified very quickly usually in the next meeting Don't really know what to believe.. there were quotes about us having one of the biggest budgets in the league, that was on the official site, so if it lies why was on there? Us sheep will only believe what we are told. I think it is conveniant for those in charge to tell us we are a small club blah blah blah. To be frank I dont think it is any different for the majority of clubs in the PL. Times are hard, things cost more. Berwick has things going for it that a lot of clubs don't i.e a very loyal support both home and away. Other clubs though seem to be able to find ways of digging out the results. All clubs have a bad season for whatever reason maybe a rain off or an injury but you can't be poor domestically for 5 years and then say well we are just a small club. As I say our intention has never been to win things, as long as the public have a good jolly and the Bandits win by 2 with Super Lee making his Heat 12 pass the Bandits are happy. Our efforts lets be honest have been on raising the profile of the club. Had we put in the same amount of effort into our domestic season as we did with the raising of the clubs profile for the last 5 years, our league posistion may very well be different. Actually, that's right. Going to speedway is for many spectators a social occasion, a cheerful night out in good company with spectacle and excitement thrown in. Narrow home win? Even better. Team motivation is big part in success ,but nowadays the riders ride against each other in other Leagues home and abroad which takes away some of the genuine Team spirit.I also think there are a lot of jaded performances due to all the travelling involved home and abroad. If you go back 7/8 years to Peter's days the foreign riders did not have so many commitments in Europe thus less travelling.Pepe was the one with the most and you could see that it did effect his Performances some weeks. I think it is harsh to say we had atrocious seasons but if we were having a bad season Peter at least made an effort to keep the team on its toes , under performers had to look over their shoulders. Situations in the sport has change in the sport and it is not for the better IMO. Actually, that's right. Trouble is a lot of spectators are having their social night out elsewhere .

You are sort of right, the big problem I have had this season, I enjoy the hour before and the three hours plus afterwards with my friends. The two hours in between have been the problem, generally a poor product, with the odd good meeting thrown in. I agree with what Robin is saying, if you can get it right once or twice, the fans desetrve the same every week. The only two things that are important for me is a well prepared track and good close racing, win or lose, I want to be entertained.
