Berwick Bandits V Rye House Rockets (pl, Saturday 24th)

Recommended Posts

Well we need something because in three years we have not progress one jot but this year have ended up with fewer points while our near neighbours are either winning or challenging for the title. Yes I await the Eddie pitch about sky and u21's and yes I agree great PR for the club but only goes to increase fans expectations, would be nice to be in the mix for something at the end of a season.

The Sky meeting along side the Under-21 meeting this season, the GP Qualifier meeting from last season are all great meetings to host and a credit to the Berwick promotion, but its the week to week bread and butter PL meetings where Berwick are judged and most fans form their opinions and Im afraid the riders assembled are not up to the task of getting Berwick into reasonable positions in the league.

Can someone on here who is on twitter go on the Berwick website as there is an update on Ricky from his dad[ i am not on twitter] thank you

There are too many of you to all reply to at once with my old age technology skills! ha ha, ricky is doing fine although he is in discomfort, the physios have him hoisted in a chair a few hours a week in a reclined position, which takes the weight of his lungs, cant wait for him to finally wake up! missing my legend like mad! C'mon son!

I'll take getting the infrastructure sound ahead of silverware any day.

To not get the business fundamentals in order would be plain thick.

Now, if success is about winning, or even being in, say, the top 3: that means the majority of all sporting teams in a league will be failures.

Success is different for every club, individual, or organisation.

Putting PL speedway on at all in Berwick is a mighty success.

There are not many people around with the business nous that could keep speedway going in Berwick in this day and age.

Very naive folk would attempt to build a winning team, then be gone in a puff of smoke and forever vilified for busting the club.

I'd love us to win the league, don't get me wrong, but I'd much rather make sure we are sustainable first.

Oh, and we have had silverware as recently as last season, so it is not as if we are the whipping boys.

The "follow the winning team" mentality has a distinct ring of a now defunct Scottish football club who had many fair-weather fans.

A good post, but.... Why the hell should folk be expected to part with there cash to watch journey men?? No one enjoys watching cannon fodder so it won't get people though the door.. Nor will a nice burger or heated toilet seats... Sort the team out and the rest can be done over time....

It's no good having rave reviews from the caviar meetings if your weekly bread and butter is out of date and stale.

As has been pointed out, that's what Newport and others before them have done, and look where it got them. As Big Eddie says, you have to get the finances right in every area of the business.

If you splash out on stars, you will need more income to balance the books, and that just isn't viable in a place like Berwick. The promotion have a sound financial model which manages to keep speedway in the town - well may it continue.

Yet again you miss the vital point with success comes increased gate receipts the club have shown that when you put on quality meetings then gates increase and there is a buzz around the place not when your season is over at the beginning of Aug.

So yes infrastructure is important but the fans need to have something to get excited about on a weekly basis. To be fair thought at the start of the season we had the mix right but some rider have fallen short and yet again I jury's have crippled us but is that the riders or the motivators????

Good Post,to be fair on the injury front we signed Kennett but he was a big let down IMO.The season has been rather flat can only hope we pick up again next season some new blood needed though. Edited by Fromafar

To say the season was over in august is wrong in my opinion, start of June and it was just about finito.

I get what Bigeddiechek is saying,no fan would want our promotion to get the cheque book out to have one trophy laden season only for Berwick Speedway to collaspe and be no more, look ast Newport.Though I dont see why Berwick cant be successful in the long term, but right now that seems unachieveable as has been already been pointed out theres been no real progress up the PL table in the last few seasons, yes injuries have played their part but we havent been the only club to suffer from those.

We all agree with what Big Ed is saying ,but you also need results on track to promote the club to the wider audience out there and unfortunately this hasn't happened.

season finished at redcar in cup match when they squandered a 28-13 lead in the 2nd leg and that was the 18th of april

I think some riders didn't perform as individuals this season, and have been disappointing.

That has a big dent more than results when riders are clearly not being as competitive as they are capable of.

Correct, but we have a team manager who`s job it is to get the best out of his riders, maybe question`s need to be asked there. It`s clear to see that certain riders are allowed to get away with under performing on a regular bases and become to comfortable at Berwick.
