Berwick 2014?

Recommended Posts

It really all comes down to population. Berwick achieve miracles in attracting support from their catchment area, by far the least-populated (given a 40-mile radius) of any speedway club in Britain.

For the area where Berwick gets it supporters from, they have always had reasonable crowds. Obviously the city tracks have more competition from more attractions but Berwick have a decent number of loyal supporters who turn up week in week out.

Anderson has already made one tough call dropping Carr, for me Weathers place must be in serious jeopardy. If Berwick really want to kick on then I think he needs to go.

Wethers has generally been ultra dependable in his time with us....his scores have dipped a little since his crash and a heavy knock against Edinburgh wont have helped.

Who realistically would replace him?

Maybe he fancies a go at reserve, Wethers form hasn't been good in the last few weeks, though the way the team is built and the way Kus is going we can just about carry a rider. Come the play-offs though, if Berwick qualify, we will need all the team firing.

More big points for a couple of riders in Poland today, Steen Jensen scored an impressive 10+4 in his Pila`s comfortable home win against Rawicz. Meanwhile over at Krosno Claus Vissing scored 14pts in his sides home defeat with Wanda Krakow.

Kus is the new enigma. The events in Argie when his friend was killed, seems to be still with him, and only time will erase that from his memory. He is the original 0303 points scorer, a brilliant gater but does not try if behind. Pity he does not perform like he does when he is at the Redcar training days that I attend. He is flat-out and throwing the bike in the first bend from just after the start gate. He is s different rider, and it is a great shame he isn't repeating that type of riding during meetings. The shape of Berwick is not dissimilar to Prague, where he flew round as a wildcard in a Prague GP, so with a bit more confidence he could come good and surprise everyone. It's in there, but how you get it out is a mystery.

It was obvious he was leaving Redcar, as in their last PO meeting against us, he walked dejected around the track, shaking hands and taking with everyone, and even throwing some racing gear into the crowd as if he was saying his goodbyes. I said it on the night.

All the best Matej.

Disagree completely,IMO this has the potential of being our best winter signing, we have a rider in Kus who has the qualities of being a top rider, our management and promotion must try to get the best out of him, if they do he will make a mockery of his starting average.

Well said that man. Really pleased for Kus getting his form back and who is nice guy to boot.

Couldn't you have posted the posts where a Berwick fan, yes a Berwick fan, questioned the signing of Matej Kus.

It was only a few weeks ago when Bandits fans were walking out of Shielfield long before the end of the Peterborough meeting with many calling for changes, Kevin Doolan being the one targeted for the boot. Now they're being touted as champions by many fans. Gotta be the most fickle fans in British speedway. Edited by Shadders

I think there were a few who questioned his signing.

I openly admit I was unsure.

Equally I am delighted to be proven utterly wrong, and to say you were absolutely spot on about him making a mockery of his starting average.

Doolan has answered the questions too.

It's always a sign of a true competitor(s) who can raise their game under pressure.

This is probably the most enjoyable season I can remember since being able to return regularly at the turn of the millennium.

Long may it last!

I think you will struggle to find a team that has consistency throughout the full season.

Riders drift in and out of form.

Thus fans' opinions to follow!

Matej Kus is very happy and very proud to be riding at Berwick, the way things are going Kus will move into the main body of the team, with Steen Jensen going to reserve. IMO Jensen will do just as well at reserve, whatever happens we are in a strong position reserve wise when it comes to the play-offs, should we get there.

Absolutely, great looking team.

I wonder with the rolling averages if we will be able to maintain the same lineup for next season. I don't think many would be against that!

I met Matej briefly before Ipswich, really nice lad, and he came across a thoroughly professional which is clearly the case from his performances.

I was going to take a bit of convincing at the start of the season, but didn't take long to COMPLETELY convince me.

I don't like to compare, but he could he fill the void that was created when Rymel retired?

Vissing 7-53

Doolan 6-87

Wethers 6-30

Bellego 6-17

Jensen 5-57

Kus 5-49

Edberg 4-39

Total 42-32.

So providing they stick to the same points limit for next season, yes it possible to retain the same one to seven.

Thanks for that, I was wondering if that would be the case.

I think having the same team (providing it is a decent one) would be a great benefit for newer fans.

Gives a better chance to get to know the riders.

Plus, I want them all back!

Of the current team there is only two Berwick assets, now IMO assets in speedway is largely pointless, but our non-Berwick assets will go back to the parent clubs at the end of the season, of course that doesn't mean they wont return.
