here's my shout

1. Doolan -maybe past his best but ride Berwick well

2. Kus- jury's out but hopeful

3. Bellego-big chance to prove himself

4. Wethers- steady big gives his all

5. Vissing -Will certainly enjoy Shielfield after his nightmare at the Dale, gives everything though

6 Jensen- Haven't a clue but at reserve should do the business going by his Danish form of late

7 Carr- will surprise a few in Ht 2 IMO important that he doesn't override and injure himself, time is on his side.

Couldn't disagree with any of that.

Great to see a British youngster getting a start in a team that should be able to give him great support.

I an certain one rider will up his average, and that rider is Liam Carr.

:approve:

my opinion for what its worth

1.kevin doolan . will get solid 7-8 points anywhere with the odd double figure score

2. matty weathers. similar to kevin

3. matej kus. with the return of his confidence could up average by 1 -1.5 points

4. claus vissing . should like sheilfield and hope ups average by 0.5 at least.

5 . david bellego. will hpld sversge and sgain possibly 0.5 - 1 increase

6 steen jensen. dont know much about him but if can hold average good if can increase even better

7. liam carr. i am happy he gets a chance and hope he can up his sverage but initially might struggle till gets used to riding at this level every week.

best berwick team ever (at second div level) was the '89 team

Best team not to win the league, reckon one of the best 2nd tier teams of all time (still have a large photo of a 11 yr old me and my little bro with the team, cup and all their signatures around it).

Have to be fair to this team, I've been out of touch with speedway for a while, and some of the riders I know not much about, so I'll reserve judgement until about 8 matches in.

1. Kevin Doolan. - may come up short against the very top names but good for 8-10 points at home and 7 - 9 away. Brings a wealth of experience to the team which will be invaluable to David and Liam as they progress.

2. Matej Kus - The enigma of the team. Had a shocker last year at Redcar following the terrible events in Argentina. Hopefully now in a position to move on with his career. Remember seeing him a couple of seasons ago riding against us and looking like a world beater with three straight wins. Followed that up with two lasts. We all know how supportive our promotion can be and even if he struggles to start with, there is the very real prospect of a spell at reserve which would do wonders for his confidence.

3. David Bellego. - Should be aiming to challenge for the number 1 vest by the end of the season. Capable of beating anyone around Berwick on his day. Scored much better away from home last year. The one to watch for me.

4. Matty Wethers - Firstly, he is my choice as captain. Gave 100% last year every time he took to the track. Really got dialled in last year and is good for 8 - 10 points at home. Away from home is where Matty needs to find consistency. As captain is where he is at his best, as represented by his trophy laden spell with Edinburgh.

5. Claus Vissing - Delighted to sign Claus as he was brilliant as a visiting rider here last year. Should be looking for double figures at home weekly. Away from home, again may struggle against the very top guys but good for 7-9 points minimum at most tracks.

6. Steen Jensen - As far as his average goes, we have a point scoring reserve which is exactly what we needed. Come with good pedigree, averaging over 10 points for one of his clubs. Have we made the signing of the season? Time will tell.

7. Liam Carr - Delighted the local lad gets his chance and will now become our asset once completing the required matches. May struggle to start with, particularly away from home. On the other hand may surprise a few and hold his own. He will need support financially and would imagine the fans fundraising groups will be looking to support their hometown boy. Plus by having a local lad in the team, more fans may be encouraged through the gate.

Summary.

We have the potential to be unbeatable at home, and should be looking to create a fortress mentality. Away from home, plenty of experience throughout the team to ensure we aren't embarrassed. Should be looking to grind out results by taking it to opposing middle order riders whilst packing the minor places when up against the top boys.

Roll on the start of the season!

Now that riders are confirmed lets start an argument regarding the riding Order!!!!

Doolan

Kus ( decent out the gate offering up the chance to turn over a few number 1s in the first race and should deal with heat 8 quite easily)

Bellego (would move him away from two as it is quite a restrictive position)

Wethers (big race man if it is tight in Heat 14)

Vissing (team riding is a dying art but a guy with his all out style is best to look after himself)

Carr

Jensen

i cant believe anybody would sign kus , he must be the most frustrating rider in the league imo !!

Many riders are frustrating, I think you may be surprised with what Matej will achieve next season coming, hopefully he has got his head around things that happened last season. I honestly believe he will prove his doubters wrong. Edited by TOURETTES

ill be watching the progress of matej kus as im interested to see if the rider that once looked so good has lost it or the problems were more to do with being conected to redcar

Kus won't get a better chance to turn around his form,he has always rode Berwick well and he can gate.I for one think he will do ok.

What happened with Kus in Argentina? Missed that.

Was sharing accomodation with the young Pole that was killed while riding in Argentina.

I got the impression last season Matej was not happy at all being at Redcar.

(1989 Bandits)Best team not to win the league, reckon one of the best 2nd tier teams of all time (still have a large photo of a 11 yr old me and my little bro with the team, cup and all their signatures around it).

A great team, their KO Cup demolition of the all-conquering Poole side was brilliant. Their big advantage, a big part of their success that season was the same seven riders racing right through without chopping and changing.

Something many clubs (and supporters) should bear in mind in 2014

ill be watching the progress of matej kus as im interested to see if the rider thatonce looked so good has lost it or the problems were more to do with being conected to redcar

Matej is a "confidence rider" and will grow in confidence at Berwick, where he has close friends inside the Bandits' organisation, and a promotion which will encourage his return to SGP and WTC form.
