Shadders
Has Jason Garrity had a practise? My Sheffield connections say Jason was seen on crutches before the meeting, but no further news Just been told he chucked his crutches to one side, climbed onto the bike and came out doing wheelies.... Absolutely barking!! Edited August 22, 2013 by Shadders
graz gp
Not good enough Sheffield. Management living in another world if they think its ok to use guest every week. They will not win another meeting this season.
Hel'n'Back
Can't help thinking that there's no point now in signing new riders, we have two home meetings left and three away. We missed the boat a long time ago, should have signed a new number one as soon as it was obvious Simon wouldn't be returning this season! montie
Has Jason Garrity had a practise? I saw him all changed and ready to go in pits towards end of meeting then he vanished...not sure if he had a ride
Hel'n'Back
Garrity definitely had a ride, only a couple of laps though, OK at pulling wheelies...
Sparky from Sheffield
Shadders' connections were right. Looked very quick and was popping wheelies - typical Jason. Then seen in the bar back on his crutches!

You need to look further down the team. Look at the opposing reserves scores for the last 2 weeks and compare those scores with our reserves. That is what lost us the last 2 home meetings. Anyway we don't know what has happened behind the scenes in getting replacements. I am sure that the sheffield management are not totally happy in 'cobbling' a team week in and week out.... I disagree about signing riders for me it shows disregard and a lack of respect to the supporters.. Why should we pay money to see a made up team of riders who don't really care whether the team wins or loses as long as they get there start money and a couple of points.. The whole team has been a problem all season.. We are currently tracking a team on 2013 GSA of 36.76 inc Andre on 3.56.. Hardly inspiring.. I stated a few weeks ago if the promotors couldn't be bothered then I wouldn't.. It doesn't wash with me that they couldn't find a rider.. For me that translates there is no one out there willing to ride for nothing.. Plymouth last week replaced a rider , bad luck strikes and out for season.. What happens they have a replacement by Tuesday.. I've been unfortunate to lose my local track at long eaton and for 14 years we have travelled to Sheffield but no more stupid treks leaving work no tea and straight up the m1 for us.. Sheffield has a bad apple and until the bad apple is removed Sheffield speedway will keep rotting until it joins Long Eaton in the forgotton pile.. Charlieboy
Though having some sympathy with the Sheffield management over injuries it galls me to see other clubs show ambition and get replacements.Every week in speedway star riders are crying out for extra rides.Skornicki and Hougaard spring to mind but we are happy with our select side week in week out.It gets harder and harder each week to drag myself down to owlerton.Fantastic ride from greenwood, but fac and Compton down on power.Lawson got passed same in heat 15 as he did in 13 so should have expected the same move and covered it.Poor result as expected but not too bad a meeting.Cant understand why we heavily watered the track knowing rain was tipped !!!! Didn't help our poor gaters early on.One last point,Where was the referee looking at the start of heat 3 ?even klindt was embarrassed. She was consistently crap all night. OdsalBoy
I remember a time when opposing teams used to fear coming to Owlerton, now they cant wait.Yes it was a close meeting and probably great for the neutral fan, but Sheffield have been panned so many times at home this season and its awful to see. From my view, looking at other teams we have lacked serious ambition. I see other teams covering their injuries swiftly and promptly by bringing new riders in, however with Sheff this isnt the case, for the last few months we have just been treading water and slinging any old lineup together. As a paying supporter for many years it just seems to be grating on me that im parting my hard earned money for myself and my daughter to see a team that is way off.. speedway_dan
I'd be looking at making a signing if I had one meeting left. Never mind five. Don't understand people's mentality when they say what's the point. Sheffield asset base isn't exactly healthy for a start. So for me I'd be out looking at replacements with a few to the 2014 and beyond. If you take your eye of the ball you get left behind. It's been a drastically unlucky season for my local club but running with a patched up team for what's been half the season when others have made signings seems very confusing if anything to me.
graz gp
Mr. Machin does not want to spend any more money than he has to . He is just getting through to the end of the season with a patched up team ever week. As for not being able to get riders in what a load of rubbish other teams soon get some one in when they have to. If you don't pay you don't get. Imo Machin is waiting to se what happens next season with the air fence and the league set up. If sky pull the plug could it be one league next year. I think it could be a very dodgy time for speedway in the u k
romans lovechild
maybe neil does not want to add to his asset base because he is selling his share this winter, or why would he not sign someone as soon as your number 1 gets injured, just food for thought. Of course you would spend; we would all spend on the team no matter what wouldn't we? That's because we are spending monopoly money; Mr Machin is spending the real thing. I do agree it has been a drastically unlucky season but every time Sheffield have made changes to put things right they have been hit by another unfortunate incident. There comes a time when you batten down the hatches; ride out the storm and wait to make decisions in calmer waters; not ideal but probably the most sensible approach bearing in mind the general uncertainties around the sport and the economy.
AndyK86
Sheffield look like they will be riding in 2014, they have already said they want to bring Ricky Wells back in 2014 so dont worry about selling up, only thing i will say is get ready for us racing on a Sunday, will give more time to get air fence up and down for starters ! spin king
In an ideal world we would have replaced the injured riders or simply brought in riders for riders that were not achieving what was expected. We were suckered right from the beginning when we realised that we were not going to able to make significant change because of the assessed riders averages, but were not the only ones both us Scunthorpe and Glasgow were caught out in the same situation. Up until then we were doing okayish we had made the Trophy Semi Finals, but you could see that changes were needed to be made, and as soon as the opportunity arose the change happened Adam Roynon for Jake Knight, which I think everybody would agree would or should have seen us move up the table and maybe challenge for a Play Off spot. But Monday we announce Adam Roynon signs for the club, Tuesday Steady breaks his leg and is out for the season. It is virtually impossible to replace a rider of Steady class and ability at that stage of the season, and although as people have pointed out that others were in the same situation I don't think that others had the same situation as us regarding the type of rider they needed to replace. Two of the riders that people have mentioned were Peterborough's Hougaard and Fisher, but Peterbrough were adamant that they did not want riders doubling up, they did relent eventually and allow North out on doubling up duties, but I reckon that Peterborough would not have allowed those riders out for doubling up. We could have tried to blood a young Scandinavian, but with the lower Swedish leagues running on a Thursday I think that would have not been an option as the type of rider that were looking at could well have been riding on a regular basis in Sweden. Of course people will believe what they want to believe as to how hard the Promotion tried to get in replacement riders, and in the past I would have said they have not tried, but on this occasion I think that they were put in a position that was virtually impossible task, and I think that right or wrong the Promotion have wrote off the season. As for next season, if we run and I am sceptical about that we do have a nucleus of good riders that want to be back at Sheffield, Steady and Adam Roynon have stated that they want to be back at Sheffield next season and today in the local rag Ricky Wells has said that he would like to come back next season, that would form a strong and exciting heatleader trio for the club when all are fit and well. Maybe, hopefully we'll carry on on thursdays, it is traditional...if they switched to sunday, the first time Wednesday had a match on the same day the promotion would be moaning, dont think it will happen somehow.
