dantodan
Newcastle have had two riders out long term due to back injuries. Andrew Tully who missed the early part of the season and now Christian Henry whom is out for the rest of the season. Our promoters did not want to rely on R/R until the seasons end so they have brought in Anton Rosen. I think he is a team mate of Ludvig Lindgren in Sweden so will no doubt have come well recommended by Lightning Ludvig. The Diamonds have lost a few league points just lately and we all hope Anton can hit the ground running home and away but as we have mainly home league fixtures left the Swede really has to get to grips with our tighter bends that he is used to. First match for Anton will be away to Workington. Maybe he will go well there on a big track before making his home debut also against the comets at Brough on the 25th August
Lord Antebellum
You'll be hoping their Swedish team doesn't haul them back if they have a clash it dates, then? One NL guest is acceptable, but two....?

Chewbacca
Looked quick and tidy during his few laps yesterday. 63.7 seconds would have won a fair few heats but it will be gating skills that dictate just how good he could be. 2ndbendbeerhut
Interesting couple of tweets from Richie Worrall 4 ex motocross lads in for team GB tonight! Just shows.. British speedway needs more motocross lads to make the switch over! #bettermoney Then teams might spend money on there tracks and not flights... #britishspeedway Maybe not a direct dig at the Newcastle promotion but food for thought..... I must admit that I was impressed with his Four Laps. It will be different with three other Riders on the Track but he looks a good addition to me. :approve: Good Luck Anton. Tsunami
I must admit that I was impressed with his Four Laps. It will be different with three other Riders on the Track but he looks a good addition to me. :approve: Good Luck Anton. Had his first ride after heat 10 last night, when he clocked 63.7, followed by two extra rides after the Test meeting. He didn't ride hard and eased his way in but still was very fast and tidy. Everyone around me were more than impressed. He rides with Herbie Hancock in Sweden for Piraterna, who are top of their league, and Herbie recommended him. Luddi, I believe, has assisted Anton with his signing and helped with the transfer over to the Diamonds. Richie's tweet might be pointed, but is only true when over a longer period. With Swedes, and the Svemo agreement, the British club is responsible for the flights, upto a maximum amount over a season. It is expeditious to sign short term riders like Anton, especially if riders like teammate Richie seek to collect silverware with the Diamonds, to match the ambitions of the promotion and the fans. Longer term of course, Yes, we should be doing more to bring young riders, and riders from MotoCross like himself, Birks, Kerr, etc, but while there is a massive rider shortage of riders, there remains the need to sign decent foreign riders for British teams. Welcome to the Diamonds Anton, you looked good last night and will only get better, starting at Worky on Saturday

2ndbendbeerhut
Looking at the PL this year there a a fair few British "number 7's" that are doing a good job and with a bit more help (eg flight money) would be staking a claim for 2nd string spots. At Ipswich we have Ellis, and recently we have also seen, Blackbird, Bates, Kerr, Starke and Rose riding well.
Tsunami
Looking at the PL this year there a a fair few British "number 7's" that are doing a good job and with a bit more help (eg flight money) would be staking a claim for 2nd string spots. At Ipswich we have Ellis, and recently we have also seen, Blackbird, Bates, Kerr, Starke and Rose riding well. Yes, the tide is and has been changing, as there is an improvement of the younger riders available. As long as we continue to encourage and develop young riders with the like of the British Youth Championships, and the excellent training facilities like Scunny and Northside, the future is looking a deal better than a couple of years ago. The scrambles and grass tracking is gone or dwindling, but the latest recruits from MotorX would suggest that that branch of motorcycling would seem to be a good replacement, and worth pursuing for our future and means less reliance on foreign riders, especially in the lower orders. Pepper
Anton's laps were really the highlight of a very very dull meeting last night. I've never said this before but I wished I'd stayed home rather than going to the speedway.

I've never said this before but I wished I'd stayed home rather than going to the speedway. Actually you very much echo my feelings about the Meeting itself, I said as much to my pal on the way home - very poor I thought. TeamGB (YUK!!!) were very good - but - Australia were terrible. Not their fault, but if they could not field a better Team than that they should probably have put the Meeting off until they could. Fricke and Doolan were reasonable on occasion - the rest - very poor. I think if they could have fielded Doyle, Josh Grajczonek and had Christian Henry not been injured it would have been a far more interesting Meeting.
