Swedish Playoffs 2013 (see First Post For Teams And Race Card Links)

Being a media pro I suspect that Rob won't stoop to our level on principle. ;)

Very much an 'ex' lastword, but I'd rather watch it with Dave's expert commentary. Thanks to Alan for the help. No question of any 'stooping'. I've just been a viewer and supporter for years now, and very, very happy to be out of it all.

A better summer than in the UK the latest average attendances

Ikaros Smederna 3,808

Dackarna 3,596

Indianerna 3.517

Piraterna 2.935

Elit Vetlanda 2,917

Västervik 2.590

Hammarby 1.934

Vargarna 1.738

As a comparison the attendances for the media dominating football is for their highest league 7,210, and for the second tier equivalent to the Champonship over here 2,451. So quite decent crowds indeed for the speedway bearing in mind the non-central (inhospitable lol) location of some of the tracks.

Oh so true, but I suspect that even those averages are down on previous Swedish seasons (not fully researched  ) and their rider wages must be so much more than our lot pay. Hope I'm wrong.......don't want to see any speedway nation in trouble, but a lot of Swedish clubs have disappeared in recent seasons.

year: series: play off.

2009: 3296 : 4708

2010: 2665 : 3933

2011; 2898 : 4342

2012: 2728 : 3290

2013: 2728 : 4392

So attendances have been pretty stable. Numbers from the latest issue of Speedway racing.

It varies some from year to year depending on what teams that are in Elitserien.

For next season we have changed Hammarby to Rospiggarna and I would think that

Rospiggarna will have a higher attendance then Hammarby this year,

No one will take my Yankee $$$$$$$$$ for a subscription, so it's streams or watch the grass grow for me.

Gee rmc you make it sound like you still having to deal with high Therapy bills (JOKE) lol. If you found something so wrong would rather you seek to change it from the inside than flee. Intrigued as to what the 'all' is? are you referring to the speedway at the time or the media?

Like when Manchester United dropped a division many years ago for a season and that leagues average attendances were duly elevated.

Yeah Rospiggarna average in the lower division this season 2,259 and Hammarby in the higher tier only 1,932. Hopefully one would expect the promoted team to increase their attendances as well.

CONGRATS PIRATERNA 2013 CHAMPIONS (forget the triple 0-5 scenario)

Thanks to Premier Sports and Dave Goddard for a season of great racing and great commentary.

Attendance tonight was 5,878 :)

That's very good but not as good as Smederna's home leg of the semi final where 6236 attended the meeting.

That is the highest attendance this year. Hopefully they will return next year.

As you mentioned yourself Piraterna is a 'small' stadium so luckily for Smerderna it doesn't have a capacity of 6237 or your club would only have had the second highest crowd ;)

Paul, it is possible to be happy to be out of something without needing therapy, you know?

I'm glad to be out of both, mainly because of the type of people I encountered. On the media side (not just sport) I grew very tired of having to deal with what were often cheap hustlers running video companies, although there were one or two guys who were a pleasure to deal with. As for speedway, well sometimes making your hobby your living ruins a good hobby. I still love my speedway but it again its the people who run it and a lot of those who follow it who take a lot of the pleasure away.

These days I'm happy to just watch, enjoy and leave others to take all the rest. When you see the ridiculous, spiteful hammering that Pearson and his colleagues take I'm very glad to be out of it all.

Back to the speedway, I've really loved this Swedish season, it brings back some great memories of working over in a beautiful and very civilised country, although one of our cameramen did try his best to change all that ;-)

Thanks to Premier Sports for taking the risk of buying the rights to an overseas version of a minority sport and for Dave Goddard for making the difficulties of working off a monitor in Dublin while filling in long gaps work so well.

Thanks also to lastword for his kind words. I've watched the match on its repeat showing so I've been able finally to see the end of a damn good story.
