Team Gb V Australia (4th Test @ Newcastle) 18/8/13 - 6:30pm

Recommended Posts

I am opening a thread up for this meeting today at Newcastle. Will Great Britain win and take the series today or will Australia win and make it level, for the final decider at Workington. Teams are listed below:

Team Great Britain

1. Craig Cook

2. Richard Lawson

3. Josh Auty

4. Ben Barker

5. Richie Worrall

6. Kyle Howarth

7. Andrew Tully

Team Australia

1. Kevin Doolan

2. Hugh Skidmore

3. Rusty Harrison

4. Matthew Wethers

5. Aaron Summers

6. Max Fricke

7. Tyson Nelson

I will be covering updates for today's meeting. If anyone has news on the confirmed teams and riding orders please post below, as I have took the teams from last night's meeting at Workington (Postponed). At 2 for Great Britain originally was Adam Roynon and he got injured on Wednesday evening riding for Sheffield, Joe Screen replaced him yesterday, but can't ride today as he rides at Glasgow.

Looked a mismatch on paper and proved to be so. Australia had a very weak team against a GB team with 4 number 1 riders in Cook, Barker, Worrall and Lawson who all fly around Brough. What Australia didn't need was Josh Auty flying out of the start and having easily his best meeting here and Howarth having one of his good Brough Park days. Australia really needed Doyle, Morris and Grajczonek to make this a contest and it's a shame they were unavailable. With that in mind I would like to have seen GB use a couple of younger riders, e.g. Lewis Kerr & Lewis Blackbird. There are a couple of riders in the GB team who are never going to be more than PL heat leaders so why not take the opportunity to give some of the less experienced riders a chance, especially against such weak opposition.

Was the NL 4s today mate so a lot of those younger riders wouldn't have been available anyway!! Looks like a pretty poor match judging by the score alone so here's hoping that Oz can cobble together a rather more competent team for the re-staged Workington leg in Sept, otherwise, with the series over bar the shouting, it could be a very sparse crowd at DP that night?

Total waste of money going to watch this. No entertainment at all. I was praying for cook or auty to miss the gate just so there would be some passing. I was excited when they announced a test match at brough but having paid for last night I wouldn't bother going another time. It was really only the Aussie reserves that seemed to be trying. I expected more from Doolan and Summers at least.
