manchesterpaul
Sweden and Poland will only have 8 teams each in their top leagues next year, no Brit except Woffinden will get a look in! Ouch very hard to get in, certainly in Poland. Although there is of course the second tier leagues in those countries. The Polish League 1 would provide stern competition/education/experience for young Brits. Top 19 in the averages contain some good riders indeed. Peter Kildemand Andrew Lebedev Chris Harris Thomas H. Jonasson Daniel Jeleniewski Maciej Kuciapa Scott Nicholls Robert Miśkowiak Kjastas Puodżuks Cameron Woodward Norbert Kościuch Krystian Pieszczek Michael Szczepaniak Kenni Larsen Peter Karlsson Roman Povazhny Rory Schlein Andrei Karpov Magnus Zetterstroem Don't want to veer off topic too much so i'll mention that i bet they attract some bumper crowds
ch958
So we would be a feeder system to the Polish and Swedish leagues Your idea sucks (No Offence) and no fans would turn up to watch wobbling juniors and when those wobbling juniors know how to turn the bike, They bugger off to Poland and Sweden. well what would you do then? There aren't unlimited team places in Poland and Sweden so no they won't all 'bugger off'. And we're not talking about 'wobbling juniors' just overpaid eurostars. The crowds we attract are only large enough to fund a semi pro sport.

I would say. 'Are you mad?' but that would be a rhetorical question. How would the UK be a feeder system to the Polish and Swedish leagues? The idea that all the UK riders that would become decent riders would then ride in Poland or Sweden at the expense of the UK is daft even for you. Of course some would ride in those leagues but they would probably ride here as happens now. Of course once riders reach an international standard they would want to flex thier muscles abroad and good luck to them. But the idea that the UK leagues would consist of riders who can just about slide a bike is too daft to even laugh at. Let alone the fact that the top leagues would not want to flood their league with Brits the way we flood ours with anyone but our own not all the UK riders here would want to lose the opportunity of racing on thier doorstep. It would be a case of some would ride internationally and perhaps not in the UK whilst some would ride internationally and also ride in the UK as happens now! It would be great to see a good number of our riders in the top leagues but your scenario is the dribblings of an idiot. What a nice problem that would be to have. We produce say even only 2 of these superstars each year from the 'wobbling juniors' that fly the nest to foreign leagues and in a decade we have 20 true international standard riders in their prime aged 25-30. What would we give for that now?

jimmy jimmy
I buried my mother 15 years ago, Getting personal is low, especially when it's only a sport we are discussing. We may not agree but I think you have sunken too far. You ever want to discuss our differing of opinions, please feel free to contact me. People may think Jimmy Jimmy's remark is only a bit of fun, but I'm guessing he knows me and it's the only way he can get my back up. Jimmy Jimmy, anytime you want to see my attic.... Guest
Anyone know if average crowd attendances are available anywhere online? It would be interesting to see the differences between the leagues. Anyone any idea of a 'ballpark' break even figure needed to run a team at National League level? It would be interesting o know average crowds at Monmore Green for Wolverhampton and for Dudley Heathens?

I would imagine that ALL copies of Crowd/Attendances would be securely lock away at the BSPA - certainly away from the Tax Man.

It would be interesting to see the differences between the leagues. Anyone any idea of a 'ballpark' break even figure needed to run a team at National League level? I suspect it would greatly vary depending on stadium ownership/lease costs, how much you'd have to pay riders to come and ride for you (geographically challenged tracks may have to pay more), and what your other operating costs are. When I looked into this more than 10 years ago, Elite League tracks had running costs of something like 400-500K per year, so I'd imagine it's a fair bit more now. I'd have thought something like 50-65% of those costs for Premier League tracks at very rough guess, but really no idea for National League tracks. although some of them might be up near the lower end of the Premier scale.
