salty
Middlo talked about 4 riders - 3 races to decide the winner. As I said before - was never going to happen.
Mark
So if Middlo was asking for a run off and you feel aggrieved this was ignored then presumably you think Middlo should get the pick (?) The fact he would have had a run off shows he didnt know who he would pick (groundhog day!) Who needs a run off - they have all had about 100 races in the EL this year what would 1 more prove? I'm not aggrieved just curious as to the process for giving a rider, who wasn't in our GB squad of 6, a huge chance to get into the GP. Surely the selection process should be made open to public and other GB riders. Why the secrecy ? MIddlo had a decent idea. A 3 race run off would have been a fairer way, it's decided on the track, to pick the wild card. As for who got those 4 run off places, I would have took 4 highest averaged riders in Elite League to reward consistency over a season. salty
In that case why have a run off? Just reward consistency by giving the slot to the Brit with the top average.

Deano
To be fair to Danny, in Team GB terms he is a boarder line rider. He can be good enough and then he isn't and then he really really isn't. Passing (was it Gollob?) around the boards only to lose it again at Peterborough in the world cup a few years back, proves he can mix it on occasions. He needs to up his game, perhaps he's too nice a guy, most of the best riders are too focused to be nice people. Go Danny, good luck. uk_martin
Be nice to have a second Brummies rider to cheer on at Poole. As for WHY he was chosen, well at a guess, because he is British would be one reason, his high ranking amongst British riders would be another, and he's not too bad around Poole. I don't think Middlo / BSPA / SCB / ACU would have had the slightest input into this decision. It's BSI's train set and they will play with it the way they want to play with it. I dare say someone at BSI made the decision based on who would add value to the event / ticket sales, and that Danny King ended up being the best answer that there was to that...in their opinion, and at the end of the day, they will get the financial rewards / penalties of their decision, so let them live with it. How about we now look forward to the event and some really good racing? Edited August 17, 2013 by uk martin
JT
King's inclusion marks something of a watershed moment in British Speedway. For far too long, BSI have bowed down to Chris Harris constant whinging and given him Wild Cards as a matter of course. Sure he won a Grand Prix six years ago, and after a freak turn of form at the end of 2010, finished 6th in the world, but aside from that he's constantly failed to qualify by right for the series. Time after time they gave him a lifeline, while other riders who weren't British, but far more qualified (i.e Bjerre, Holta), were sacked as soon as they dropped out of the top 8. I don't think King is the answer, but after the British Final/Grand Prix Wild Card fiasco this year, it's nice that someone else has been given a shot. As for Harris, this may just be the wake up call he needs. JT. Edited August 17, 2013 by JT

I agree, cuts through the politics and sets a target for the riders.

BSI have nothing to do with this meeting-it`s an FIM meeting organised by the ACU-the only link to BSI from this meeting is that 3 riders will qualify for their 2014 competition from this meeting. diamond_ren
Why not King? Nicholls and Kennett failed to qualify so don't deserve another chance and Harris has been in the GP's before and been one GP apart pathetic.... Might as well try someone new. He probably wont qualify anyway but good luck to him!

A agree, Nicholls has decided he doesn't want to represent GB anymore so not even sure why is part of the discussion A few years ago Woffinden came in and struggled but certainly learned from it and look what is happening now. Look to the future rather than the riders that are sadly the past
OGT
I think Danny was chosen because of his lovely ears.
Gearhead
The only trouble will run offs is the venue, its arguably always going to please some riders more than others,at leeast they'd get a shot sat it though
